So much for that "doubling down" on secrecy. Seriously, people need to come to terms with the fact that this will be the next iPhone. There is no smoke and mirrors by Apple while they hide away some secret iPhone that will "wow" us at the event. This same thing happened with both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. We kept getting leaks for both of those phones, but people kept shouting "fake" and "controlled leak" because they thought Apple had a secret iPhone.

Can MacRumors please throw a party for all those who have leaked parts and ask them to bring along what they have to assemble it altogether as a big group activity?

The phone will be launched on September 12th? Huh. Wouldn't it be something if the iPhone went on sale the same day it was introduced? Think of the mad rush of customers racing to their nearest Apple Store.

True enough. It's virtually impossible to keep new products 100% under wraps for probably "the most scrutinized company in the world" with arguably "the most anticipated products in the world" with sooo many people involved in bringing these gadgets to market. Especially with some news sites willing to pay thousands for a "scoop". But hey, as noted by others, maybe APPLE has a hand in some of these 'leaks'. :(

The funny thing is for most companies no one cares about leaks.
They'd like people to care but very few do. So lots of leaks are happening for every company but very few get any interested. Apple build this idea they are secretive and now everyone cares about their leaks. It's all just playing the market. You see the same thing with car makers. They all do road testing. No one gives to hoots about the ones who don't draw attention to themselves pretending its all secret like.

It works because we love it. We want to buy in to the story of it.

Does anyone else find it odd that MR has a banner across the top of their site saying that the next iPhone will be announced September 12th. There's no official announcement from Apple. That's still a month away, and they've had the banner for over a week now, unless I'm mistaken. Even if Apple has it planned to do it that date, they could change their mind if things aren't quite ready then.

Can't wait for Launch Day! Sadly my mom won't let me upgrade til the 7th gen no matter what it looks like.

All these leaks have told us what the phone will look like, how it is put together, etc.

However, NONE of them tell us about the specs (except the screen).

A6 processor? A5 and a half? Quad core? NFC? We don't have any idea about these. And it's those specs that really matter.

Yup. The people on this forum seem largely incapable of counting to 6 and realizing this is the 6TH GENERATION iPHONE

You know what I vote they call it? I vote they call it the iphone **** (apparently the censors caught that, it basically was acronym of shuttup with a curse word inserted in the middle)!!!!

Geeze, it's a frikkin name! THey'll name it what they name it and some of us will be wrong and some of us will be right and at this point is there any frikkin reason to bicker about what you think they'll name it?

Quit trying to derail the thread into meaningless crap that's been argued for months over and over. Obviously no one has come to a consensus now, what the hell do you expect to accomplish by beating a dead horse?

Personally I think they'll name it the iphone but I hope they don't solely cause if they do I'll never hear the end of this "They would have named it the 6 if they put a number on it, not the 5" crap. It's not that damned important, get over it! You'll find out soon enough and either be proved right or wrong soon enough.

Are you kidding me?!

It's going to be the iPhone 5. Going from iPhone, to iPhone 3G and 3GS, to iPhone 4 and 4S, it only makes sense to call it the 5. The public doesn't care about generation numbers. If they did, Apple would've called them iPhone 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Calling it the iPhone 6 would make no sense because the public would always be asking "What happened to the iPhone 5?" Literally every person I talk to about it calls it the iPhone 5. I even asked another forum I'm on and everyone said iPhone 5.

Just stop. It could be the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4G, the new iPhone, but it won't be iPhone 6

Get over it, dude! Let people call it whatever they want!

No way, didn't you know the world is going to end if people don't call it the right one. Firey hell and all that! Demons ripping out our entrails. They have to save the world by ensuring everyone calls it the right name. This is important, didn't you know?!

So I suppose everyone[including Apple] who called the iPhone 4S the.. Well.. iPhone 4S were wrong when it was clearly the iPhone 5?

//People who can't accept that names don't have to follow numerical order.

If they weren't following numerical order, they still wouldn't call it the iPhone 5, as the only reason they could possibly have to call it that was if it was the 5th iPhone. Which it isn't, the 4S was. Why not call it the iPhone 2? Or 3? Both of these numbers are just as valid as 5.

It would be the most epic thing ever happened if; Tim Cook introduced an iPhone made by the leaked parts, spent about 30 minutes talking about it in detail, then told all of these were actually fake and introduced the actual brand new iPhone that looks nothing like the leaked iPhone BUT

So, big question in my mind is whether they will go with an A5X processor or with an A6 which would hopefully be based off of Cortex A15. Samsung and TI already have A15-based chips available and nVidia will have Tegra 4 available as of early next year, so introing a A9-based phone with a full 1-year lifecycle just doesn't make much sense right now with the hot competition right now.

I prefer to call it iPhone Maximus, lord ruler of generations and numerics.

ALL HAIL IPHONE MAXIMUS!

I'm thinking Apple is letting the leaks happen so they can see how soon after samsung comes out with a twin?

Samsung and Apple probably have to call each other up now and say okay I'm not doing a square one, you do that, I'll do the long skinny one and then you can do the circle and I'll take the triangle. And we did not have this phone call, I don't even know who you are.

I mean they must be tired of paying those rafts of lawyers, the both of them.
