Did anyone actually think it was going to be called "iPhone Fold"? Not only does that roll off the tongue terribly, it always seemed clear to me that was just a placeholder name used in tech media, not the actual rumored name of the product.

"iPhone Ultra" makes more sense, though this device will be a fundamentally different form-factor, not simply the most premium version of the iPhone, as "Ultra" would suggest. Also, "iPhold" was right there. 😛

I suggest not holding one's breath for new vaporware products until the world situation stabilizes. History shows the name "friend" or "enemy" can change over night with lots of repercussions 😱.

I've said it will be called the Ultra for quite a while now. The name is awesome and makes total sense IMHO.

Highly doubt it. Doesn’t fit with anything else Apple are naming Ultra. As somebody else has said as well, these things are in flux until the last possible minute AND very few people even within Apple will actually know what’s in the running, let alone the final.

Clever, from a marketing perspective. A “fold” iPhone is nothing; but an “Ultra” iPhone segments the different product groups

"Meanwhile, domestic Chinese manufacturers are allegedly deciding whether to follow Apple's lead by tentatively branding their own upcoming foldables as "Ultra" models..."

As usual, Apple shows the way and the also-rans follow suit

Ultra implies a higher tier than standard so are they going to keep the standard MacBook Pro and charge more for an OLED display??

Probably ... along with some saucy branding.

Liquid Fusion Hyper Neural Retina Display*

(*a tandem OLED wrapped in oodles of marketing speak)

Come on Apple…PhoneBook, seriously! Served on a silver platter for you. Easy win.

(Also, Safari should have been named iBrowse)
Clever. That would actually be a fun name.

How?

The Ultra watch, for example.. durable, heavy duty, long battery life, rugged, scratch-proof, etc. This? none of those.
One has nothing to do with the other mate.

The Ultra moniker is meant to mean the ultimate experience with that device category.

I get this is the continuation of the Ultra product line and the MacBook Ultra will soon follow-- but it makes no sense to have a phone with less cameras be called the "Ultra."
