As someone above stated, Apple marketing names are pretty much the last things to be solidified. Most of the people working on the product learn the marketing name on announcement day along with all of us.
If they don’t call it iPhone, they won’t call it anything with “i” at all.
Apple has not introduced a new product with the “iBlank” naming in 15 years, mainly due to patent issues.
I also disagree with the thesis that it won’t be called iPhone. “iPhone” is Apple‘s most recognizable product name, their biggest brand, they’re calling card, the thing that they will always be known for. And this folding iPhone, under everything, is still going to be marketed as… a phone. Therefore, they aren’t going to not call it an iPhone, that would be shooting themselves in the foot.

What does a "Pro" or "Ultra" phone even mean? A Pro level product used to be a product a Professional or Enthusiast would use to do work or be used by someone that wanted the additional power. Now Professional is just a people showing off while they post mundane pictures of food and stupid crap on social media.

I have a Galaxy Flip for work ... no screen failure yet, but don't like the crease ... so hope is that Apple makes it really better as rumored. For screen failures, hope that is covered by Apple Care+ which I always get and from past experience Apple is very good at fixing stuff with Apple Care+ (for one device, they even pretended I still had Apple Care+, even though it had just expired)

they also may call it iPhone Flex, iPhone SuperMax, iPhone SuperDuper, iPhone Ultramega, iPhone Magic, iPhone Flip, iPhone Duo, iPhone Ultimate, iPhone incredible, iPhone VVL (very very large) - of course suffix the Pro moniker to those wild guesses.
How they do finally, we will know when they release that thing - *IF* they do.
to me it doesnt matter, cause i don’t want and will not buy a flip phone, no no not even from the apples guys.

Apple's first foldable iPhone may not carry the speculative media-derived "Fold" branding after all, according to Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station.
In a new post on Weibo, the oft-accurate leaker claimed that Apple's book-style foldable could launch as the "iPhone Ultra." Meanwhile, domestic Chinese manufacturers are allegedly deciding whether to follow Apple's lead by tentatively branding their own upcoming foldables as "Ultra" models, but likely with a lighter price tag – Apple's version is expected to cost between $2,000 and $2,500.
If Apple does adopt the Ultra name, it wouldn't be the first time. The company already uses the moniker to designate Apple Watch Ultra and CarPlay Ultra as premium products, not to mention its top-end M1 Ultra and M3 Ultra chips. Indeed, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in March that Apple is considering "Ultra" branding for an OLED touchscreen MacBook and a future AirPods model with cameras, suggesting the label could spread across several product lines.
Based on the latest rumors, Apple's foldable iPhone is widely expected to launch later this year, sometime between September and December. The device is expected to feature an approximately 5.3- to 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen, with a front-facing camera in both closed and open orientations, and a dual-lens rear camera.
Digital Chat Station has more than three million followers on Weibo, and has a track record of accurately leaking Apple-related information. Still, as with all such reports, the details remain unconfirmed.

if this is relegated to USB 2.0 and doesn’t have MagSafe how “ultra” can it be.
I’m waiting for 2md version so they can get all the bugs worked out.
OS aside other companies have shown they can do better so it’s time for Apple to show us how they can do better after waiting 8-9 years.

Sure, but in that case I don’t see them calling it iPhone Ultra, as it is not Ultra anything. The Pro lineup still has better everything and for customers that are used to iPhone lineup would be confused if Ultra does bot have Ultra specs.
That is the reason I see them naming it something new.
If it has the iPhone name in front then at least here they could name it something new like MacBook Neo.
Safe route would be iPhone Fold but I don’t see Apple going that way.
My bet is still a totally new name, as you said they did not introduce a new iDevice in years, so maybe now is the time… and that still gives them Air and Pro options down the line.

I think no matter what it will be called an iPhone.
I do not think Apple will ever introduce a new product line using “iBlank” again, both because that era is over and because of the previously mentioned patent issues.
I agree that “iPhone Ultra” doesn’t make much sense and I believe they will go with an entirely new adjective. My favorite one that has been thrown around is “iPhone Duo”. I think that one is a very high possibility.
Ha! What a guess! I predectied that a while ago in a previous post. iPhone Fold makes no sense at all. iPhone Ultra matches Apple's naming convention. Lets see if were both right.
