I think it is a little too early to categorically say “rubbish.” We will have to wait and see if the battery is the same size as the current SE, which is 1,821 mAh. Given the smaller form factor of the 5.4”, I am not going to assume Apple will put anything bigger in the phone. The 11 model has a 3,110 mAh and the article says worse than that. For all we know, the battery could be 2100 mAh. If it is the same size as the current SE, a lot of people are going to be disappointed and frustrated.

I have the current SE and it was getting excellent battery life on iOS 13. I am a light user with the phone and I could get almost 1.5 days between charges. With iOS 14 and setting up as new several times, a lot of the time the phone is down to 20 - 30% before the full day is over. I have gone to using a Apple Smart Battery Case. I am using the same apps as I was with iOS 13. It may be a bug with iOS 14.
Oh would you be willing to share your battery use screenshot under the "last 10 (or 6) days"? I'm really curious to see how you define "light usage"

This is my "last six days" in battery.

I don’t get way Apple doesn’t put Touch ID under the display. My OnePlus 7pro has it and it works just as well as my iPad.
Do you not get that OnePlus ships a few million phones and Apple ships a few hundred million phones? All the money and engineering talent in the world cannot magically manifest physical components in a supply chain especially during a pandemic.

No Touch ID is a massive miss by Apple here. Really bad mistake on their part not including this.

Doubt we'll see longer battery life. 5G will drain it faster, so hopefully the larger battery allows as long a battery as the 11 Pro.
Exactly my thought. Touch ID is the only reason I would upgrade. Sick of unlocking w/ mask on. Unless the Face ID is advance enough to unlock with mask? That’s def a possibility with ultrasonic waves? It would be pure stupidity if they didn’t implant the new Touch ID that’s on the new iPad

it would seem very unlikely if Apple wouldn’t include a solution for this problem..either have to include the new Touch ID or a more advanced Face ID that can unlock with mask.
no way apple would be so ignorant. This is the most important part of your phone experience which right now is the most annoying

I'd be very satisfied with being able to set a "mask face" alternate appearance with FaceID. My eyes and upper head are the same. Figure it out.

This phone was designed over a year ago. The prognosis for Covid changes every other week so it’s unreasonable to expect Apple to have a solution for your approval ready. They’re having enough issues sourcing components from a struggling Chinese supply chain to build 100 million phones and you want them to source new components long after they finalized the designs?

I think the fact that the new iPad Air has Touch ID implemented on its power button implies Apple at least considered it regardless of the pandemic.

I don’t really care about : 120hz screen, 5g, face ID. I would very much like to have touch ID and a bright screen in the iphone 5S shape form . The photo/ video capability is good enough for me.

I think it would be funny if Apple, Tim et al were reading through this thread and laughing nefariously to themselves... "If they only knew..."

Steve made famous the "one more thing..." line, it's been a while since it was used...

How many minds would be blown if Tim comes on live at the end and says "Oh, and one more thing..." and it's, pick one:
1)Touch Id in the Power button
2)90-120mhz screen
3)Some other super duper thing we didn't know we couldn't live without...

Even without that, as much as it sounds from this thread that the iPhone 12 in whatever version you choose is going to be an abysmal failure, Apple will sell more in a month or two than all but the top 2-3 Cell phone makers, and OnePlus isn't in that category, nor is surprisingly, Sony...

YMMV

People 65 and over are in bad physical shape and are pretty ignorant as far as technology goes unless they work in the tech field. Their dream phone is not a smartphone but a flip phone! Show them a smartphone and they are in panic mode and quickly dismiss it, wanting to flee from the smartphone. The best way to get them to accept a smartphone is to give them an iPad first!

I am already disappointed the mini isn't a pro model. If it's any spec less than the base iPhone than as far as I see it Apple fails to see what people have been asking for.

There are those who are asking for a Pro Mini. But I am asking for a non-Pro Mini. I had the XS for 2 years because it was more compact than the XR. That was the reason and I just wanted to try out a flagship to see what's up to date. I saw Apple's table of XR and XS features side by side. They were so close!

The US$300 ($700 Australian) difference in price between Pro and non-Pro is without meaning for people other than the few hobbyists and enthusiasts looking for advanced bokeh. I keep reading articles looking for Pro features that could justify that outlay on something that lasts a handful of years. I haven't found any. I kept reading articles about non-Pro specs and it's great. The spec list goes on and on.

I don't see more than a few ways in which the non-Pro is stripped down versus the Pro and each can be done away with. Stainless steel edges? One finger touch and it's ugly by being marked and I kept it in a (great) Otterbox case anyway for 2 years because of the crazy repair costs. 120Hz? Shaky tech that's not even refined in Androids. Like so many features, it will be there and mature in 3 years in your next phone. And so on.

Yes I’m aware of that and as I explained before, Apple should have already implemented this. They planned ahead for the iPad Air so they obviously see Touch ID has value.
They did it to make the iPad Air cheaper, not because they think it’s as good or as useful as faceid.

This is a pretty prejudiced statement. Many people over 65 are in great shape and are perfectly proficient with technology.

You're getting an early start on saying curmudgeonly things...

These iPhones were finalized before the "mask world we live in" started.
Doesn’t matter. Android phones have had finger print sensors either in the display or on the power button for over a couple years now.
No touch ID is a deal breaker for some, myself included. And I live in a maskless state.

Not to mention we more than likely won't get a charger this year.
Because buying a separate fast charger will be more environmentally friendly.

I guess when you buy the charger they will not include a box or any plastic or stickers on it and you must get it from the store only because shipping burns gas by plane and FedEx.

So another round of camera improvements - I don't know about most people but I don't do anything intensive enough on my phone to warrant the ever-incrementing processor improvements, despite how technically impressive they are.

Especially with masks (hopefully) being a lasting presence, it would have been nice to see a return of Touch ID, whether under the screen or even in the power button like the latest iPad.
... and there is no way that you can just slide down your mask for a second to unlook or just simply enter your unlock code, right? You need an Touch-ID Button to unlock your phone because otherwise you are lost?

People doesnt understand that Apple dont do half baked device....Apple doesnt think this pandemic will last for 2 or 3 more years to place a technology into the next 2 or 3 iphones...Apple will never go with touchID just for 1 gen of iphones...
Thats why Apple doesnt go with usbC either just for 1 generation like iphone 12, since, from nexty year, iphone goes portless and from 2022 or 2023 everybody else

I just realized, after watching Rene Ritchie’s most recent 2min tube video Then & Now is just how awesome the iPhone is vs the competition and it’s based on its initial 3-pillars from the OG launch.

it’s still THE best mobile internet communications device.

still the best phone - simple at :
Dialing, Contacts, call logs

wide screen iPod: with headset controls (wired/wireless with AirPods and AirPods Pro) ~ it formed an industry standard with controls back when EarPods existed: Play/Pause/FFWD/RWD/Voice Control. Many of us forget just how horrible these were any any other smartphone device before it. Heck I’d say only SonyEricsson got them all right except for voice control on their feature phones like the K750/W800 and all others thereafter - I’d say their headsets with controls is what Apple modelled their EarPods after. Now with AirPods completely enhanced the experienced that only in 2019 the competition -in house - are finally catching up to!! Honestly just catching up to; even with their better AI the basics of what wireless headphones experience from 1st party is just catching up to.

music Ui got messed up along with some of the experience due to how Apple Music works with taking over your own sync’d music (nothing simplistically clear cut and still needs iTunes/Music app on your Pc/Mac to get done tuned needs working right!

but all in all Safari for internet browser experience has kept up to internet standards and expectations. Since Flash was dead it’s kept up. Sure ppl have preferences but it’s not really failed many ppl.

Actually FaceID is more secure than TouchID. That was one of the big points Apple made when they introduced it.

That's entirely unscientific. Fingerprints are more unique. Identical twins like I have in my family look identically the same to any camera, but their fingerprints are still DIFFERENT. So wrong on that one.

Seriously, where is this science that FACE ID is more secure than TOUCH ID?

And no, Tim Cook's Reality Distortion Field isn't the same as Steve Jobs. He tries, but he's just not that good in reality.

I just hope there will be a toggle to turn 5G off to stay on LTE only.

of course there will be an option. You can do that to toggle 4G/3G by going to settings/cellular/cellular data options/voice and data to toggle 4G/3G so I assume that will

If it doesn’t have Touch ID I’m not ****ing interested. I’m sick of having updates cameras which I don’t need but still need to deal with mask

agreed. I’m pissed Apple didn’t do this. Guess I’ll stick with my X. No significant changes for me to want a newer model.

it won’t have Touch ID because 1. There is no rumor or post about the 12 models having Touch ID and 2, the only phone rumored to have Touch ID for the home button and maybe the screen is the rumored SE Plus ( and people are forgetting this rumor)
