As much as I want to buy the iPhone 12 it seems to have very little to warrant spending 1k+ again this year. As for the new design, those used to be exciting back in the iPhone 4 days but they are pretty much just recycling old designs now.

No 120hz screen? what's the Pro models got over the normal models? just an extra lens? :(

There has to be something more, they can't expect people to spend the extra money just for a telephoto lens. Maybe the display will be different, no ProMotion but better quality on the Pro, and maybe a different material more resistant to scratches.
5G could also be a differentiator with mmWave only on the Pro.
Have to say I'm not really excited and unless there is something really compelling I'll skip this update and buy the 2021 iPhone

the data I’ve seen is that Touch ID will unlock a phone incorrectly more often than Face ID. apple posted the figures.

While you are right in a way for the figures (1 in 50,000 chance for Touch ID verses 1 in 1,000,000 for Face ID) bear in mind though that these are Theoretical numbers so even with the Touch ID numbers % wise it’s 0.002 so even with those numbers between touchID and FaceID they are still very good

Almost all the leaks said it’s the same OLED display across all this year’s iPhones & for the Higher better 5G (mmWave) they say its only coming in the 12 Pro Max model which is very wired if you ask me.. Hopefully Apple is hiding something for the Pro lineup :(

I don't get people with iPhone 11s here complaining about not enough new features. Do you seriously need a new phone every year and expect it to have features never heard of before every year?

FASTER is the very last thing the iPhone ever needs. It's a phone, not a supercomputer.

When looking at the speed difference of my iPhone 6 vs. the old iPhone SE or the 6S then I'd say speedier is definitely good for longevity and long-term support of the device.

that made no sense at all... you would think you can have a phone processing better photos etc. with less power? Everything in technology gets faster in processing to get better. From Cars, to microwaves/cooking machines, to computers, to smartphones, to literally anything.

“Today, Apple is introducing a full-screen touch-sensitive iPod, an Internet communications device, and a phone. An iPod, an Internet device, and a phone. An iPod, an Internet device, and a phone — do you get it yet?” — Steve Jobs, 2007

Am I the only one who doesn't care about a new iPhone anymore? Its always the same.
- Faster CPU
- Better camera
- Better Battery-life

...I think I am gonna be stuck with my 10S Max for a long time.

Of course and- why should you!? One of the biggest iPhone advantages is longevity, it should work fine for years and years, these is no point of changing iPhones so often, IMHO. "I buy iPhones, because they lasts longer!" * changes iPhone every two years any way* - kinda counterproductive.
In other news- leakers suggest iPhone 14 to have
- Increased battery life ( one extra hour compared to previous gen)
- Better camera performance
- Better video recording performance
- Improved audio quality
- Faster CPU
- ATV+ free trial extended to 2030 when buying new Apple device
- Faster Face ID
- Smaller notch (maybe)

If you’re not using your iPhone for 3-5 years these days then I’d argue you are doing it wrong. My iPhone X is still operating like new.

Switched from 7plus to X in a year because of revolutionary UX/UI. X still going strong into year 4. I will definitely check out what is offered, but I don't feel that urge to upgrade. I dislike notch with all of my heart, but love Face ID. Waiting for Apple silicon cpu laptop and maybe no notch iPhone [ofc I am not talking about SE].

Although I do upgrade every year, I don't get excited about the phones anymore. The last truly great and innovative device that Apple introduced was the Apple watch...5 years ago!!!
"Can't innovate, my ass"....Hmmm

It's the first year I'm lost reading the leaks. I don't understand the differences between all the cameras specs

Since there will be two 6.1", I really need to understand the differences between both models. Can wait for the keynote and to compare with a clear head.

I fully expect uncle Timmy to be 'super excited' again about the camera, I mean just how much better can the camera be after a while.

If apple (or any other company for that matter) really cared about the environment then they wouldn't bring out new products each and every year with such small improvements.

They would also provide an easy way to change the battery.

I get that many want their new toys, I also like my new toys. But how we went from having products that lasted many years to craving new ones every year is astounding. I am as guilty as the next person. Like many I believe that passing on my old phone to someone else somehow absolves me of any guilt. The cold truth is that if I had to keep my iPhone for longer because there wasn't a new one, the person I was passing my iPhone to would also keep their phone and so on.

This won't be a popular opinion, I get that.

Most of the 5G towers on the planet are in China right now, unless you live in China, the world is not set up with 5G signals outside of a few pockets in major city centers.

China will have around 750K towers by the end of 2020, the EU will have around 25K, and the US will have around 45K.
Use the pin code...

I do. But it sure would be nice to not have to enter a 6 digit pin code every single time I want to unlock my phone because I'm wearing a mask.

Yes its not the end of the world but you'd think at this point Apple would have implemented an additional way to unlock the device. They see value in it, hence the new iPad Air, which is why I'm still hoping its going to be in the iPhone 12.

You bring up valid points and I don't disagree with you and am also guilty of this.

Wrong. If your phone is connected to a 5G network it is going to drain the battery faster. And 5G is available on most networks now.
I will solve that by sticking with a 4G sim card. Not bothered at all about 5G yet. It's going to be some time before it reaches my area here in the UK anyway and when it does it will cost more.

I'm 1000% with you. It's absolute rubbish on Apple's part that they aren't going to intro a TouchID system along with FaceID on the new phones. Even if it's not as secure I think many people would at least like the option. I'm sure we'll see it next year somehow. Had the done it this year, these phones would have flown off the shelves. Everything else about the phone is so solid but not exciting.

Judging by the replies in this thread and others, it should be easy to get a Pro Max on release date. Reality might be different though. Will be trading my 11 Pro Max for a 12 Pro Max and looking forward to it no matter how much others may think its not worth it.
Same here.Can't wait!

You are exactly right. And it’s not the fault of companies making new products, it is the fault of consumers buying them.

But next year there’ll be even less of a need for touch id as we likely wont be wearing any masks by then!
