Not trying to be a dick or argumentative, but can you provide some sources that show that phones connected to 5G network drain batter faster?
This will probably be the same thing with 3G vs 4GLTE. If you do the same exact things on each, you will be using the network less with 5G because it's faster, so which will use less battery. But then if you are doing more since 5G is faster, you will most likely drain faster. And then I suppose you will have the same drain due to poor coverage; although, I though I read the iPhones will be better about saving battery in that situation.

I think the fact that the new iPad Air has Touch ID implemented on its power button implies Apple at least considered it regardless of the pandemic.
They’ve also considered under screen Touch ID and have working prototypes too. That has little to do with shipping enough units to meet demand.

No Touch ID is a massive miss by Apple here. Really bad mistake on their part not including this.

Doubt we'll see longer battery life. 5G will drain it faster, so hopefully the larger battery allows as long a battery as the 11 Pro.

why are people still complaining about the lack of Touch ID. Like the headphone Jack and notch, it’s time to let it go.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about a new iPhone anymore? Its always the same.
- Faster CPU
- Better camera
- Better Battery-life

...I think I am gonna be stuck with my 10S Max for a long time.

i was hesitant on buying the XS Max simply because the price and size but promised myself I wouldn’t be upgrading after that unless either of those came down. Still holding it. Really see no reason to upgrade since then. The incremental “faster, longer, etc” marketing doesn’t do it for me anymore when comparing the prices and weight. I could understanding jumping from a pre notch phone to one of these newer ones but other than that, I don’t want a heavier iPhone at any cost.

The 5nm A14 will be more battery efficient which will offset if 5G is more power hungry. In the optimistic case, at least gain even more battery life than the A13. The article does not take this into account.

It’s funny how fast life can change on a dime. I remember the anti Touch ID people saying there would NEVER be a situation where your face is covered so much Face ID wouldn’t be better. *COVID 19 had entered the chat*

Phones aren't designed and brought to market in months, so why do people keep talking about Touch ID?

Maybe next year it will have Touch ID, but right now it's not a reasonable criticism.

Agree let it go.. Lol... Use the pin if needed for those mask situations... And pay with apple watch if you have one...

I agree. It’s been diminishing returns for a few years now. Easily go 3 years plus these days.

I went 7 Plus to 11 Pro. My 7 Plus was fine tbh, but I wanted to go smaller, the camera and battery was a huge leap. Equally, I don’t want the first edition of a redesign, and I especially don’t want the first 5G phone. You can guarantee the 13 (or whatever the 12’s successor is called) will have a far better, less battery hungry 5G chip than the 12, and there may be some actual network coverage worth a damn by then.

The one case where Touch ID is frustrating for me is when my hands get wet.
Yeah, I’ve just upgraded my iPad from a pro 2017 model to a pro 2018 model and it’s just so much better having Face ID.

when you’re used to Face ID you realise how much of a hassle Touch ID is in comparison.

Someone else covered the mask issue so I'll note that clearly you've never been in a meeting and needed to check a notification, face ID becomes much more of a problem. Also I prefer biometrics that I have to take a specific action to activate personally. Ideally I'd want both, with the ability to independently set what can be unlocked by either (and maybe set things that need both without a passcode?)

I guess it depends where you're upgrading from? I've held off upgrading from my trusty IP7 until now, but I think the 5G speed and camera quality gains of this generation could be significant. The faster CPUs in recent phones make a huge difference to photo processing, especially with low light / high contrast. Has it reached a point when I won't have to lug my heavy SLR around any more?

Wow, having to use both faceID and TouchID as security confirmation would be awsome! I would love to see this feature!

And touch id sucks, especially when wearing gloves, or your hands are cold etc. I can understand the frustration. Apple isn't building some people a phone with the features and options that they want.

You have to wear a face mask in any weather. How often are you wearing gloves? Most the world never even has to touch a pair of gloves. Everyone wears face masks though...

Here's the thing, though... Don't buy a new iPhone every time one comes out. We're still rocking first gen iPhone SE, so we're pretty excited to get these new ones. We budgeted to purchase them outright several months ago.

A nice surprise from Apple would be new iPhone's getting phone call recording features. Automatically record all calls and transcribe calls and if I delete a phone call recording, like pictures, I have 1 month before it is totally erased.

What is your experience using Face ID when you are wearing mask?

I wouldn't be using my phone or be in locations where you need to wear a mask

I'm in Teams meetings all the time and check my phone no problem.
