The price would go down so little given how cheap these accessories are that it wouldn’t make much of a difference overall.
And yet headphones are $30 and the charging brick (15?).... can't compare cost to consumer and cost to manufacturer when trying to make argument that Apple is just fine keeping out those extras and not lowering iPhone price.

It’s not your choice wether we upgrade this year or not. I have an XS Max that I gladly am upgrading this year to the 12 Pro Max. It’s our money so we can do whatever we choose with it. Until someone pays my bills then they have no say so I’m how I choose to use my money.
I’m not telling you how to spend your money. You can buy magic beans for all i care!

It's the first year I'm lost reading the leaks. I don't understand the differences between all the cameras specs

Since there will be two 6.1", I really need to understand the differences between both models. Can wait for the keynote and to compare with a clear head.
That must be Apple's plan. Flood the market with leaks and confuse everyone 😄

Yes the cost of those accessories in the iphone box is the cost to manufacturer and the cost to buy them off the shelf is the retail cost. Apple obviously doesn’t charge itself retail for the included accessories!

I don’t think anyone that owns an iPhone X or newer should be updating this year.

The bigger screen is the only thing that has my attention. How much bigger is it though? .2 of a diagonal inch? mmm... Of course better cameras are always appreciated, but that's a given with a new iphone -- they should be better.

And here I was thinking at this time last year that this year would be the big upgrade when in fact it's next year when they either get rid of the notch or drastically downsize it. Along with Promotion and maybe incorporating TouchID into the phone so you can use either or both. I'd reckon that would be a massively stonking upgrade. Under the screen finger scanner seems a few years away yet unfortunately.

BTW, I love Face ID. It's one of the best features Apple has ever put on an iPhone in my books. The ease of use it allows for logging into all various types of sites and apps make it worth the notch. But at this point it's time to do something about that eyesore of a notch.

Apple probably thinks the money is better in their pocket 😛. To be fair, the inclusion of headphones and a charger brick has been redundant for many years now. Mine all sit in the box doing nothing so they bring no value to me anyway.
Until the cables fray or you need a pair of headphones because the old ones got lost/broken.... that old box is useful.

I was thinking of going smaller phone this year ..hmm don't know yet ...I always gravitate towards go big or go home ..

I’m excited. I was all about the mini. Might get a pro though. Looks like the mini battery might suck. Coming from iPhone 7.
You would be mad to upgrade from an iPhone 11... what for lol

I have an iPhone XS, i don’t think I’ll be upgrading this year, or even next year if updates remain “incremental”. I’m not bashing Apple, I know there isn’t that much more they can do with a smartphone.

Of course, but I just don’t think you are going to get a significant benefit.
The word significant is subjective. But people are going to do what they want.
To be honest, with everything going on in the world, it's hard for me to be excited about this stuff. Just me, but my concerns are elsewhere.
One can be in-sync with the goings-on in the world and still be excited about physical items; new car, new house, new phone, new tv, etc.

I understand that they can't just change the capabilities of a new phone over a short time period but a new flagship phone rolling with face id only in a mask dominated world seems fairly ridiculous now.

As for the phone itself unless you're really into having the latest or are at the point where you need a new phone and greatest there's very little to get excited about.

Why? Given that most of the time most people won’t be wearing a mask it would seem silly to make a product for something so temporary. We had Touch ID for years that doesn’t work with gloves or wet fingers and I bet there are more instances where that occurs vs someone wearing a mask!

But I guess this is why Apple pays no attention to user requests and does what they think is best themselves.

No Touch ID is a massive miss by Apple here. Really bad mistake on their part not including this.

Doubt we'll see longer battery life. 5G will drain it faster, so hopefully the larger battery allows as long a battery as the 11 Pro.

Anecdotal, but I’m using a One Plus 8, on T-Mobile, as my main phone until the 5.4 inch iPhone comes out. I haven’t noticed any crazy battery drain when away from home or wifi and using only 5G. Granted, I’m not going out to bars and dinners and movies like I was before the pandemic, so I’m usually only away from home and wifi for a few hours at most.

All the hype about 5G, at the moment, is just that: hype. I live smack dab in the middle of Austin, and if run a speed test on my phone, I’m pulling like 40-50 down, which is about the same or even somewhat lower than with LTE, and my ping is atrocious, usually somewhere in the 30s.

In fact, I just ran a test on my One Plus 5G, then one my current gen 12.9 iPad w/ cellular, and it’s nearly the exact same speeds.

I guess what I’m saying is, this stuff is still in it’s infancy, which is why I’m surprised Apple is adopting it so early. I mean, I know why they are — but I get the feeling that a lot of new iPhone owners are going to get their phones set up and expect crazy, insane speeds when in reality it’s going to be nearly the same experience. For now, at least.

side note: I have Google Fiber at home, and recently I played around a bit with xCloud and Stadia. I’m a hard guy to impress, and this stuff is also still in it’s infancy, but BOY OH BOY, cloud game streaming is super cool. I was playing Arkham Knight on my phone with an xbox controller attached, and it looked GREAT. Then I tried setting it up on my iPad, and as you all know, that’s a no go at the moment.

There will come a day, someday, when I can play the newest NBA 2K on my iPad. That will a great day.

second side note: so happy for the Lakers. As much as it hurts to watch them play in front of a fake crowd, they honored Kobe the only way he would want to be honored — by winning. RIP, Mamba, little Mamba, and everyone else who passed away in that crash. Isn’t it crazy that when that happened, a lot of us expected that to be the most tragic thing that would happen in 2020?

Am I the only one who doesn't care about a new iPhone anymore? Its always the same.
- Faster CPU
- Better camera
- Better Battery-life

...I think I am gonna be stuck with my 10S Max for a long time.

I care a lot, and so does my carpal tunnel suffering hands. I’m counting the minutes until I can get a small iPhone again.

Funny, I’ve got an OLED iPhone and an LCD iPad and notice no difference between them.

Open a pure black screen on both. Watch a movie w/ a lot of shadows and dark shots, like any of the Batman movies. Those are two examples, I’m sure there are many more.

But, I kinda get what you’re saying: I don’t really mind LCD screens if they’re top notch screens, like the ones Apple uses. I think my 12.9’ iPad screen is downright beautiful. if I had to go back to an LCD iPhone, I wouldn‘t care that much. The only product that is a definite OLED or no buy for me is smartwatches. LCD smartwatches look awful.
