I don't know about most people but I don't do anything intensive enough on my phone to warrant the ever-incrementing processor improvements, despite how technically impressive they are.

I don’t know how you use your phone, but you probably do many things intensive enough. Like identifying your face in 1 second, all the processes behind taking a photo to make it look good, reading big PDFs... In many cases, it’s not only making things we do everyday faster, but also allowing new features by making them short enough.

Wow. The entitlement and fury in the comments always amazes me. Apparently Apple owes everyone a device with their specific wishlist of features, and for < $500 and right now!

Nah, but at bare minimum the phone should have Touch ID. Its just laziness or refusal on Apple’s part to not have it in the iPhone.

With that being said I believe they will have it. Giving it to the air and nothing else this year would be a baffling choice by Apple.

I wish there was an iPhone without a camera. I’m of the older generation that doesn’t feel the need to take pictures of my dinner or of my face interfering with a scenic view all the bl**dy time. They can do an iPhone Max Narcissist model for that.

get a flip phone for 60 bucks. Seems like a better investment. It even has bigger dial buttons

Just wanted to 2nd this. My XS Max & S5 Watch are the last models of their respective lines to feature 3D and Force Touch. These are undoubtedly solid devices to last for years to come

Unfortunately they won’t last for years to come if you don’t update the software. At which point 3D Touch and force touch will be gone from both devices.

Well, I like listening to music and watching tv shows and films on it. Cameras just seem to dominate the tech and could hold them back from doing other things with the space taken up by all those lenses.

The “older generation” walked around with Konica or Kodak cameras strung around their necks with rolls of ektachrome, and made us watch shows on their carousel slide projectors at social events. Nothing changes.

so given the release quote... you don't think 5G is going to be the main reason to upgrade?

I'm going to be sticking with my Color [RED] iPhone 8 Plus for a very long time since it evades COVID masks and is simple and does all the same things the other iPhones do mostly, at least the things I need. When Tim Cook comes to his senses, maybe I'll think of upgrading, but I just don't see many advantages anymore with COVID.

5G is available on most major networks. Also, it specially says that the battery is most likely larger because of the 5G drain. If I'm using 5G on the phone its going to drain faster, and that is a fact. So keep on saying whatever but 5G will drain the battery faster.
If 8 g9 along with what you’re saying than I hope in the cellular options we have a toggle to stay on LTE no matter where we are. So the ability to turn it off or on would be the logical thing to implement

I think that touting 5G will be the main selling point for Apple this year. I highly doubt the camera is going to see a major improvement from the 11 Pro and outside of the slightly different form factor there doesn't seem to be much else to talk about besides 5G. Sure there will be processor improvements, but at this point the differences are so small its tough to really see a benefit from it.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about a new iPhone anymore? Its always the same.
- Faster CPU
- Better camera
- Better Battery-life

...I think I am gonna be stuck with my 10S Max for a long time.

what do you expect? Hardware has its limitations. Unless they do a radical redesign such as what Microsoft and some of the other foldable phones this is what you should expect in the next few years.

Most of the innovation will need to happen on the software front in the short term, and iOS needs a reboot.

If you want to call flattened edges a huge design overhaul....Still the same screen, same notch, same buttons, same refresh rate. Oh and a blue color (which will be covered by a case anyway).

Putting flat edges on something to me doesn't really qualify as a huge overhaul.
Phones are essentially all screen now. Nearly all phones from all manufacturers look virtually the same. What kind of design overhaul are you looking for?

I could totally imagine solving the no-touch-ID while wearing a mask issue with having face ID scan the forehead and using the apple watch to confirm the right person is holding the phone. I mean, I can unlock my Mac using the apple watch... you could totally roughly measure the distance to the watch via bluetooth signal strength and check whether the motion data of the phone and watch are similar.

I now have this mindset but my poor January 2019 XS battery health is at 88% and it sure seems to go fast. I got in the habit of always plugging it in at home and in the car and that seems to have had huge negative implications on my battery life. This is even with a (perceived) massive reduction in screentime thanks to being five months clean of Facebook.
