Improved zoom is amazing. Been wanting and waiting for this for ages and the competition has truly moved on way past 10X zoom (their quality isnt bad either).

Better battery life is also great. Excited for that extra hour; we are already at 20hrs for the Pro Max

Am I the only one who doesn't care about a new iPhone anymore? Its always the same.
- Faster CPU
- Better camera
- Better Battery-life

...I think I am gonna be stuck with my 10S Max for a long time.
That's why I update every year. Dunno what the problem is.

How would a smaller battery have the same capacity as a bigger battery?

By increasing the power density.

Think of a computer monitors PPI. The more pixels you can pack in the better the image.

Tesla, Panasonic and others are all working on trying to put as much density as possible in the batteries to make them as thin and as small as possible.

Google for aerogel graphene batteries. If those work, those would be revolutionary.

So if prosser is to be believed (I know, I know) they ditched 120hz screen because of battery life? Maybe they should have stuck a larger battery in, make it a little thicker and have the option for 120hz to be turned on/off.
Apple aren’t a switch it off company...user experience has to be perfect without needing to switch things off to work.

120 megahertz refresh is not
to happen in this century.

Apple sells phones based on benefits, not specs. You might not care about a better cameras, but plenty of people do. People have been whining about “120 Hz refresh” in this forum for weeks now, and not one single person has been able to identify any real benefit of that for anyone except (possibly) gamers. Like the people who want a 1000-hp engine in their car so they can drive to the mall.
I find it hard to believe that no one has said that faster refresh rate means much smoother scrolling. It’s a real and tangible benefit that you will notice any time you are scrolling a page on your phone; like the home screen, webpage, etc. The difference is obvious when comparing an iPad Pro screen to a regular iPad And has nothing to do with being a gamer.

Interesting that there is NO mention of Dolby Vision video capture !

At a MIN, that would imply 10-bit color capture, either in P3 D65 OR Rec.2020 !

I was under the impression that it would be included in ALL four iPhone 12 models.

As someone that has the 2020 iPad Pro, with LIDAR, can say 100%, its (LIDAR) pretty much useless and is nothing to get excited over. Has absolutely nothing to show for it 7 months after release other than the Ikea app and a few paywalled Apple Arcade games
LIDAR on the iPhone is more than just AR..it will be for better portrait mode for one.

Do you have the specs of the actual new iPhone battery instead of a theoretical batteries you mentioned?

I have a 7Plus and I would love to upgrade if there's really a tangible reason. As far as I can tell, there is no reason for me to plunk down $1000 for the iPhone 12. 5G isn't here and won't be here for years, the camera upgrades are minimal (for spending $1000), and any iOS features/enhancements will surely be supported on my 7Plus.

From 7 plus the camera upgrades are massive...

I know very little on 5G, and can't contribute to that debate. But I've noticed that many of your replies to people begin with LOL. So you start out by laughing at people, and then tell someone else about how they come across wrong? Some of the comments you reply to by laughing come from people that clearly are pretty knowledgeable on the subject, and they make some valid points. i doubt you see the irony that you sarcastically call them all 'experts', intended as an insult... but respond to everyone as though you are.

I’ve not used LOL to insult anyone. If a comment makes me laugh I put it. I’ve never claimed to be an expert on anything and certainly haven’t told anyone to “read slowly” or to leave commenting to those who can speak on the topic. If my LOL’s are interpreted as insulting, they aren’t meant to be. But he was clearly insulting me in his posts. And yes, I called him an expert sarcastically because he decided to name himself as one while making my comments seem nonsensical.

Thin and better battery life aren’t mutually exclusive. I need a phone to last me a day. For me any duration longer is overkill. It’s not battery life at all costs.
Last a day varies from person to person. If you do very little on your phone, they will already last a day, any processor intensive processes aren’t even getting half a day out of the phone. Apple always skimps on battery, no excuse for the batteries to shrink in size.

The camera upgrades from the 7+ to the iPhone 11 Pro Max were massive, imo. Someone who is into photos, would notice a huge difference...night mode, dynamic hdr in video, etc.

But you are right...whether one sees a benefit to upgrading is subjective.

Right. I’m pointing out that not everybody would be on board with thicker phone and “better” battery life. I wouldn’t...because my phone is heavy enough and lasts the day for my use case.

I could totally imagine solving the no-touch-ID while wearing a mask issue with having face ID scan the forehead and using the apple watch to confirm the right person is holding the phone. I mean, I can unlock my Mac using the apple watch... you could totally roughly measure the distance to the watch via bluetooth signal strength and check whether the motion data of the phone and watch are similar.
Yea or why can't the phone unlock as long as you are wearing an unlocked Watch and they are in range of each other? If the phone is stolen it will lock as soon as it is out of range, and if they steal both they will lock because it won't detect the watch is being worn anymore.

So according to the rumor the iPhone 12 mini will have worse battery life then the iPhone 11. The iPhone 11 is 6.1” and the iPhone 12 mini is 5.4”. I would think that considering the number of pixels to be driven by the GPU to be less then those on the iPhone 11, the battery life could be similar to the iPhone 11.
