So if prosser is to be believed (I know, I know) they ditched 120hz screen because of battery life? Maybe they should have stuck a larger battery in, make it a little thicker and have the option for 120hz to be turned on/off.

Since 95% of the world (100% if you don’t count these forums) doesn’t care about 120hz, I’m happy they didn’t make us all suffer with thicker heavier phones so the screen refresh fetishists can get their pointless way.

The thing is they don’t expect you to upgrade every year/other year. These are huge upgrades for anyone coming from the X or below. Of course if you upgrade every year/other year they won’t seem like big jumps.

And more ram. Seems kind of meh.

No one is asking for groundbreaking features. Touch ID and a smaller notch would be two things that would go a long way for even iPhone 11 users.

I wish there was an iPhone without a camera. I’m of the older generation that doesn’t feel the need to take pictures of my dinner or of my face interfering with a scenic view all the bl**dy time. They can do an iPhone Max Narcissist model for that.

So taking pictures of your kids, or significant other, or family members, or projects you are working on... that's all narcissist as well? If you can't think of Camera use cases that don't involve selfies... thats your problem not ours :-/

I have an X. It's not an upgrade. My phone isn't slow, I don't take photos so I don't need a better camera. I don't care about battery life because I'm never out.

Things that would make for a great upgrade though? 120mhz refresh rate and Touch ID.

TouchID plus FaceID would be nice, but pre-covid apple saw FaceID as their "premium" feature and TouchID as their legacy, less secure feature. Given that, it makes sense that the iPhone 12, with a design locked in over 12 months ago, wouldn't have TouchID while the mid-range new iPad Air would retain this feature.

It's fair to argue that you prefer TouchID over FaceTime, but it really is situation dependent. For example, here in a cold weather city, FaceID is much nicer for the winter months.

As for the notch, I really don't care and it seems like most consumers don't either. I'm sure, over time, Apple will shrink or eliminate it, but I don't ever think about while I'm using my phone. Not once.

Also: Apple doesn't design their phones to entice someone from the year-before generation to upgrade. If the average user upgrades after 3-5? years, they are really going after this group. The fact that the new iPhone will also be a new design will also be enough to get certain status-oriented people to upgrade. How could they be seen with an old iPhone? ;)

As someone that has the 2020 iPad Pro, with LIDAR, can say 100%, its (LIDAR) pretty much useless and is nothing to get excited over. Has absolutely nothing to show for it 7 months after release other than the Ikea app and a few paywalled Apple Arcade games
The iPad isn’t their flagship device either. I’m confident they’ll have more to show off about what it can do during the presentation.

What is the point of putting in the relatively expensive hardware with it doing nothing?

No 120hz screen? what's the Pro models got over the normal models? just an extra lens? :(

lol “pointless” ok🤣. Also the phones could get a little thicker and actually feel better in hand while having the screen and a bigger battery.

No Touch ID is a massive miss by Apple here. Really bad mistake on their part not including this.

Doubt we'll see longer battery life. 5G will drain it faster, so hopefully the larger battery allows as long a battery as the 11 Pro.
You mention 'no Touch ID' in two separate comments. How do you know they're not including it in the 12? You have some inside information?

Yeah thats incorrect. They implemented Touch ID into the new iPad Air and that was developed Pre-Covid. So they obviously see a need for it.

Secondly, I didn’t say I minded the notch. But a smaller one or no notch at all would be nice.

If you’re never out, why do you need TouchId then? Seems like you highly overpaid for a device that you barely use the functionality.

Eh TouchId is far from what I would call as being anything worth getting people excited to upgrade to.

I, as everyone else in this entire thread, are just going off of the leaked info in the article. And I didn’t say it didn’t have it, I said not having it would be a huge miss.

I am in awe and worship your glorious grumpiness. But before I get off your lawn, I must ask: What generation are you in? If you say you’re in your 50’s I am going to cry. I’m 54

My late mother-in-law was taking pictures on her iPhone 5s well into her 80’s. She only stopped after her first serious stroke messed up her motor control. My dad is 84 and takes lots of photos on the 8 Plus I bought him. He even texts them to me. It was a long comical day of teaching him how to do that, but he got it.

A lot of my friends are in their 60’s and 70’s and posting photos of their dinners on Facebook. The only age group that I haven’t seen make much use of cameras on smart phones are the people in their late 80’s, and that’s often due to arthritis and bad eyesight. A lot of them still have mad desktop computer skills, though.

Wrong. If your phone is connected to a 5G network it is going to drain the battery faster. And 5G is available on most networks now.
Just because 5G is available on most networks doesn't say anything about the geography of availability. Most networks' 5G is limited to population-dense areas. I bet most people in the US won't ever use 5G on their iPhone 12 (maybe by the time iPhone 13 or 14 rolls around).

If it is the same size as the current SE, a lot of people are going to be disappointed and frustrated.

I am already disappointed the mini isn't a pro model. If it's any spec less than the base iPhone than as far as I see it Apple fails to see what people have been asking for.

LOL,

...

And just on a side note, when you tell someone to leave the detailed analysis to others you really come off poorly. If you want to throw your opinion out there that's fine but talking down to people in the process is not a good look. But you have a great evening friend.

I know very little on 5G, and can't contribute to that debate. But I've noticed that many of your replies to people begin with LOL. So you start out by laughing at people, and then tell someone else about how they come across wrong? Some of the comments you reply to by laughing come from people that clearly are pretty knowledgeable on the subject, and they make some valid points. i doubt you see the irony that you sarcastically call them all 'experts', intended as an insult... but respond to everyone as though you are.

120 megahertz refresh is not
to happen in this century.

Apple sells phones based on benefits, not specs. You might not care about a better cameras, but plenty of people do. People have been whining about “120 Hz refresh” in this forum for weeks now, and not one single person has been able to identify any real benefit of that for anyone except (possibly) gamers. Like the people who want a 1000-hp engine in their car so they can drive to the mall.

If you asked people what they would rather have, thin or better battery life, I’m sure everyone who isn’t inside all the time would take the battery life any day.
Thin and better battery life aren’t mutually exclusive. I need a phone to last me a day. For me any duration longer is overkill. It’s not battery life at all costs.
