I am so annoyed with Tim Cook always keeping „last years model“ to justify price increases on updated versions. Steve Jobs didn’t do it. He wanted his users to actually experience to best they can offer and didn’t settle with „last years models“. However, from a business perspective it’s smart of course but jeeze, I don’t even want to think of the Euro prices.
Euro prices can be shocking, but they are getting free healthcare and better benefits so it’s a trade offf. Also USA prices are deceiving because they never show taxes that will be added. (And if you’re eating out, tips & mandated fees)

If the base 14" as 16GB of RAM and 512GB of disk it's coherent
I still call ******** on that. The 14" MacBook Pro will replace the 13" Macbook Pro with a starting price of, let's say, $1.599. Still an increase, but not nearly as high as suggested in this rumor.
Maybe we get a 15" MacBook Air between the 13" Air and the 14" Pro? 😋

They removed the $400 Touch Bar but the price is still going up? I guess $800 billion cash in the bank isn't enough. Are they going to give their employess a raise, or let them work full time instead of part tme to avoid giving them benefits? So Progressive of Tim Cook.

I have the M1 Air which overall has been amazing. More than enough power for what I use it for but good lord there are times that small screen gets to me. I would upgrade to a larger Air the second they announced it
Ditto... I wanted the MacBook pro but since they share the same processor and there's only a 2 hour battery difference, and a $450 price difference... chose a MacBook Air 16gb with 1TB SSD from Apple's refurbished store and saved a lot of money!

The screen is small, but thankfully it is razor sharp so working with spreadsheets and quicken is a delight and not a strain on the eyes, but I do attach it to a bigger monitor.

I run three Windows 11 VM"s at the same time and the speed is phenomenal. I am amazed every time I run it how quickly everything launches and don't have to wait for anything!

I will upgrade to a MacBook Pro with the newer M1 processor, but reckon since the MacBook Air provides enough oomph, I can wait a few years! My minimum requirement for the Pro would be 4TB SSD, 64GB Memory and the 16" or larger screen.

Wth Apple?? I’m done with this rip off company.. price hike for what? Using their own chips and removing the Touch Bar and still jacking up the price😡😡
Yes, Apple passes the profits back to themselves.

We got an Air and wanted to do a data transfer. The cost for 2 APPLE cables to transfer was $100.

I think the line-up should be something like:

  1. MacBook Air M1 8/256 - $999
  2. MacBook Pro M1 8/256 - $1299
  3. MacBook Pro 14 M1X 16/512 - $1999
  4. MacBook Pro 16 M1X 16/512 - $2499
2 will be eventually replaced by MacBook Air M2 8/256 in the line-up, with maybe a $100 price hike.

Lots of R&D behind those machines, so I can see that. And to be fair, they barely have raised prices in the mobiles since the PowerBook G4.

Same power across the line sounds perfect too, especially if there are more ports/features in the larger models. Very reminiscent of the PowerBook days.

if we want “to be fair”, then they could *drop* prices by not gouging on ram and ssd.

The focus is on increasing profits to appease Wall Street and shareholder to ensure the value of shares increase. Sad!

I will pay that ridiculous amount when Apple gets major video game titles on their platform. GTA V native for M1 or I'm out!

This is incorrect. SJ absolutely kept around the older iPhones, iPods and at least one older MacBook current as value-based alternatives to the newer models.

I'm not at all surprised about price increases (that won't be confirmed until products hit the streets) seeing as there is a chip shortage, Apple losing money due to COVID because they had to close stores plus with the chip shortage they would need to control inventory. Heck Sony announced there will be no Playstation 5's until late 2022-to early 2023 due to the chip shortage.
This is an absolute lie. Sony said no such thing.

They actually said the opposite. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cn...age-might-be-over-as-sony-secures-more-chips/

So if I'm reading this right, the new Macbook Pro M1X (just for clarity) will be more expensive than the current Macbok Pro M1. Which makes total sense right?

the gpu must be different on the 16" otherswise the 2 years old intel model 5600M will outperform the 16 gpu cores
So the 16" will have the same cpu performance but different gpu perf

Bloomberg has claimed that "M1X" will come in both 16 GPU core (JadeC-Chop) and 32 GPU core (JadeC-Die) configurations.

I expect the 32 core option will be BTO.

If anything the prices should come down, or at the very least start with more base RAM for the same price. I'll be getting the 14" MacBook Pro on release but I won't be happy if I'm spending $2,000 for a 16GB 14" MacBook Pro, $1,800 already felt steep enough. 8GB for the base models is ridiculous in 2021.

As others have noted, the 13.3" MacBook Pro with a 2GHz Intel i5, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD is $1799.

So if a 14" MiniLED MacBook Pro with an "M1X" with 10 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores, 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD clocks in at $1999, it still seems to me to be a solid deal.

The "M1X" will handily outrun a 2GHz i5 and the 16 GPU cores will destroy the Intel iGPU. You also get a .7" larger display with thinner bezels and MiniLED. You also get MagSafe back and an HDMI and SD card slot. Plus three USB4/TB3 ports.

Seriously, I can't wait to buy this configuration.

But also available for the 14"?

If I can get a max ram 32 GPU cores in a 14" then that's the one for me. But historically, the 16 had more stronger options.

They better update the base RAM and hard drive configuration to adequate numbers for
this century. Most computers came with 8 GB RAM since the mid 2000s and you really cannot call anything with 8 GB RAM a "pro" machine in this day and age. 16 GB RAM are the absolute minimum for a pro machine in 2021.

The same goes for hard drive storage. 256 GB storage is ridiculous for a "pro" computer that is designed for tasks like video editing or music production. Those 256 GB fill up in no time. 1 TB is the minimum for a pro machine today.

Does feel a bit strange to have last years M1 architecture in the MacBook 16 inch but I’m sure it will come with improvements though. I don’t think Apple ever planned the MacBook 16 inch to come out before this years iPhones
I just want to have an AV1 decoder for future proofing.

My original speculation was that the 32 core option would be a BTO for the 16" only to help differentiate it, but according to this leaker it appears Apple might offer both "M1X" versions for both CPUs and therefore screen size would/could be the only differentiator.

I'm not gonna argue with you because it's not worth it and it's getting off topic but you're posting a link with a rumor stating, "PS5 shortage might be over as Sony secures more chips" Completely useless post.

Google it and everyplace else shows that Sony made an official statement that PS5's are will remain in short supply throughout 2022 due to the chip shortage. Don't call my post a lie when you're not posting facts yourself. 🙄

The price hike is quite high when compared to current M1 Macbook Pro. But the 14" model should be replacing the higher end Intel 13" Macbook Pro which retails at $1799. So I guess it will be priced at $1999.
