My chase card finally got the Att $70 cash back offer! Ordered a midnight leather case and a sequoia green wallet now that Att has the wallets for order.

Midnight leather case goes quite well with the Sierra blue!

Yup not bad at all, as also shown by another reviewer

I’m curious to see what it looks like with the Golden Brown as well

Here’s my horrible looking Apple 12 mini case. I’ve had it since launch day last year and instead of developing a patina the color just seems to be wearing off on high touch areas.

I’ve pictured it next to my red Tochigi leather wallet from Corter Leather. It was once as bright as the case but after 3 years has developed a beautiful deep red hue. This was my expectation with the Apple case…
Yeah this is my red wallet after a few months, the 12 cases material is trash and questionable if it’s even real leather

Was able to see how my set up will look in the video from ijustine. Sierra blue with midnight leather. Also want a silicone case but can’t decide between

1. Abyss Blue
2. Deep Cherry
3. Product Red

Those with the Apple black leather on the 12 how does it wear?
Very well. The coating wears off over time, nice textured leather underneath. I can't imagine the 13 midnight case will wear as well being dark blue. Hundreds of posts of the colored coating wearing off in this thread yet people still seem surprised?!

Golden Brown arrived and it's a stunner. Had originally thought I'd get the coating off and primed for Friday, but I think I'll leave it until unsightly wears start showing. Here it is in indirect sunlight, did my best to color-match on screen to real life

I've had a Saddle Brown leather case on every iPhone I have owned since the leather cases came out, probably around the 5s or 6 so I was incredibly disappointed they got rid of it this year and was strongly considering the Bullstrap this year but I have to say, that case looks amazing. This picture might make me reconsider.

Golden Brown looks like it would go really nicely with the Sierra Blue. I ordered a brown Decoded leather case last night but I might want to return the Blue Jay silicone case and pick up the Golden Brown.

This does not look like my golden brown, or any other one I've seen. Good for you.

Well it is problematic showing color on screen as everything is calibrated differently. I'm sure both of ours looks the same :) either way, it's a more attractive brown than last year's, which I found quite muddy and flat.

It seems there people in this thread that are still in denial about the new leather not being total garbage. I had baltic blue, saddle brown, and now black. All three ended up looking like iPhone 5 leather cases.
Sorry are you suggesting the iPhone 5 case used total garbage leather? Then they went to amazing leather for a number of years (and a new phone shape), and now back to garbage? Is it the actual leather, or the shape of the case that's in dispute, or both? I've seen some amazing results from last year's case.. sure with some extra work, but that's just like everything else.

what's the go-to method for getting these cases looking decent? Especially the brown.

I recently came by a used 12 leather case. Not thrilled by some of the photos people have posted regarding the wearing in/patina for the 12 series of leather cases, I decided to roll the bones and see what I can do with supplies I already have.
I started with citrasolve and a paper towel, in lieu of Tub o’ Towels, and managed to remove some of the paint like finish. This worked, but was a bit of a slog. The dark areas are wet from the case being rinsed with water. Once it dried it was less noticeable.

Next I took a 2”x2” pad of white scotchbrite, citrasolve and enough hot water to keep the pad wet and began slowly working in an up/down pattern on the case. This worked better and resulted in the removal of most of the finish. The case is wet from being rinsed off with warm water. I patted if dry with a towel. I then applied Kiwi saddle soap and wiped it off. The saddle soap has lanolin which I thought would be good for the leather as it dried.

This is how it now looks having dried overnight. Note that it’s possible to see a dark ring where the MagSafe is located. This leather is THIN.

My next steps are undetermined but I’m thinking I’ll use a bit of coffee to darken it up and then buff beeswax into the leather. I’m open to other suggestions, if someone has ideas of finishes or sealants. The leather feels dry now so I feel like it needs something to protect it from drying out and cracking.

Brace yourselves, here come the bleach treated/sandblasted/chainsawed forced patina cases…

Can’t wait for Friday the 13 cases actually smell like leather, I purchased my wife a deep violet for her 12pro Max and it noticed that it smelled more like chemicals than my Golden brown leather case

I can attest to the smell test as well. My dark cherry and sequoia green definitely smell more like leather than my 12 pro max cases.
