Leather Cases - Patina Proud Photos

Got my Bullstrap case this weekend. It is a beautiful case with one flaw....the magsafe doesn't work well with my apple wallet (it falls right off). I emailed them to ask and apparently their magnet isn't aligned to be able to accommodate apple wallet...if I want to use a magsafe wallet I have to buy theirs which is another $55 and not worth it for me.

So if you want a case that also holds cards, consider their portfolio case...same price but more functionality. Not sure about other magsafe accessories but this is what it is with the wallet :(.

I saw these at Best Buy, it was $10 cheaper than the Apple leather case and I opted for the Apple... but the Apple case smells like polyurethane, though it looks decent, it is not what I was hoping it would be.

I looked briefly at the Platinum when I was there, was able to open the box and it looked decent enough- but I feared it was just cheap crap like a lot of the other off brands they sell there.... I guess maybe I should exchange!

Does the leather seem tougher, does it smell like real leather? Any indication if it might hold up long term better than some of the others out there, such as the Apple cases?

Ugh. This was the main reason I returned my Platinum case and pre-ordered the Bullstrap. If MagSafe (Apple wallet specifically) doesn't work well, then there's no point in waiting for the Bullstrap to ship.

Can anyone with the Andar case let us know if MagSafe works as expected?

If i remember correctly, Platinum case does not have MagSafe. FYI.

Yea I am bummed....especially when on their product page they mention this works with all magsafe accessories. The wallet does attach.....it is just not very secure and can easily fall off. I have a 3rd party clear case from Zagg and the magnet is just fine...no issues. I feel like they may have done this on purpose....so you have to shell out more for their wallet. The case is beautiful.....just wish I could use my apple wallet that I love.

Thanks for pointing this out. I was debating a Bullstrap but this is a dealbreaker unfortunately

That sucks, especially for the price they charge for the Bullstrap.
 
Here’s my 12PM saddle brown. Wiped with 80% isopropyl and a microfiber til the coating stopped rubbing off and now its more naturally aging and looks pretty good. Feels like the older cases pre 12 series. Using duragloss 221 and its really supple and very soft feeling.

That can’t be the case as Andar advertises it as full-grain leather. Meaning it’s the top layer of skin that hair is removed from and then goes straight into tanning with no correction.

Full grain means it’s the real deal.

Andar - Full grain
Bullstrap - Top grain (corrected/sanded full-grain)
Apple - Genuine (not the top layer of skin, heavily corrected then pattern pressed)

Anyone order the andar magsafe wallet yet? Better than the Apple one?

Also is the aspen case thicker than apple?
 
Talked to a rep from Bullstrap who stated that my order, placed on September 23rd, is in “Batch 1” but they didn’t ship all of them out on Monday, just started the shipments then. So hopefully I’ll have mine soon.

I like the Andar cases. They pretty much cover majority of the stainless steel. The first few days it was slipper but it’s breaking in now.

Giving it a try for the Apple GB Leather. Hard to photograph but I do really like the more natural brown and hoping it should patina now that the orange layer is off.

70% alcohol, then a little Fiebings Saddle soap and a horse brush. This was the first pass, probably keep at it once everything dries.

Appreciate the effort, but that looks disgusting. Not your fault, but these aren’t the patina cases of yesteryear.

Mate I really wanted to get a leather case as it’s always been my preference. But trying them on, I’m really firm that none of the current five options were designed with Sierra Blue in mind. Great if you have another colour iPhone though but for me I felt it was too much like pick the least worst one rather than which one you like most with Sierra Blue. If I had to though, it would probably be Midnight.

BUT, on the other hand, I can say at first impression, the 13 Pro’s Silicone Cases feel like they’re of a better quality so far than the 11 Pro’s silicone cases. Those I remembered would catch permanent fingerprint grease (shine) very easily, that hasn’t happened yet for me :) The 13 Pro’s silicone case also feels a lot nicer/smoother, less rubbery and with the leather wallet on the back, you do “feel” some leather in your hand
 
I also wanna say now that I have it, Sierra Blue is well and truly gorgeous - zero regrets. I know I will not be tired of it in two years :) If you’re on the fence about SB, I’d say, go for it

Naked phone with the Golden Brown Leather Wallet also looks great and allows you to enjoy the phone colour though I think I would only regularly rock this if I buy AppleCare+
