I got the apple case then sanded off the plastic coating w 300 grit after realizing there was a plastic coating on it.
Here are some pictures after 7 days post-sanding. It's from just holding and rubbing it a bit with my fingers/hands.

The Apple wallet is 2 days old and has Find My feature which in my mind makes it worth it (it's expensive for what it is); I was separated from a generic mag safe wallet on a plane which luckily turned up 1000 miles away and I got the cards and that non Find My wallet back.

The apple case is thin, it doesn't smell, the edges of the case are a little dry so I think it just needs a handling and massaging.

One more photo with fork is 3 days post-sanding.

To all those that try various methods to force patina, good luck to you and I hope it works out for you. Me personally, I'm not willing to invest $60 on a 'science project' that may or may not work out the way I want. Taking sandpaper to my new $60 case isn't even in the realm of possibilities. That's just me.

It’s good to see some who like customising their leather case to make it unique. Some will still prefer that PVC faux leather look. nobody’s judging..?

Which leather case will develop the most beautiful patina? Andar? Does anyone has pictures from the patina of an Andar case? Are there any other „cheaper“ alternatives to Bullstrap or even Andar (has ridiculous shipping rates to Germany) that have full grain leather and develop a nice patina?

If there is anyone In Canada who wants to buy this 13 pro setup from me I will ship it to them. I actually ordered a carved wood case and prefer it

Thanks man. My only regret will be not seeing the rustic brown Nomad skin I currently have on continue to patina but when it comes down to it, I'm definitely more of a blue than brown type of guy. The nice thing is, it's thin enough that I should be able to leave it on and switch between the two.

I too jumped on the Andar Veteran's Day sale and purchased my second Aspen case (black) and matching Mag wallet.

I did email the company later with a request for red leather (my wife prefers leather cases, and Apple no longer offers a Red leather case). Their reply:

We have plans of new colorways in the future, but they are not set in stone just yet.

Yeah red would be beautiful. I've always regretted returning the one I originally bought with my X.

About 5 weeks of heavy use on the best buy "horween" platinum, 13 pro max. Overall it has darkened some and patina is really picking up on the high traffic spots. It appears these have more grainy styled texture than apple/nomad/bullstrap etc. It is smooth and soft to touch but adds some finger texture. I like the texture for grip but it is fading with use.
These will scratch and nick up, the scratches fade quickly and nicks blend in slowly. It seems far tougher than the nomad based on the pictures I've seen. No problems yet and plan to keep long term.

I honestly got more compliments in the 2 weeks I used my Platinum case than any other case I’ve used. If it only had MagSafe, I’d probably still be using it today instead of my Andar case.

Yep no magnets on the platinum however I do charge via magsafe with the case on. There is a very slight hold. Could be seen as a positive for some as you don't need two hands to pickup.

*mini rant incoming*

I do wonder if magsafe is a quickly passing fad. I functionally can't get into the magsafe ecosystem and wonder if a lot more people are in the same position I am in. I wish it was different but a "dad wallet" is a requirement for me - multiple work CCs/ work key cards/ receipts/ business cards - you name it. I use car play while driving.

If everything is truly evolving to digital it seems kind of silly to assume that the last physical accessories (tiny wallet + car mount) will stick around.

I love the Andar case so much that I've ordered another and used the VET20 discount code. They are the best quality leather cases I've ever had. I can't ever see myself buying another Apple leather case. Andar all the way for me now.

From the point of view of a case forum people like us, I would think it would be a passing fad.

But the majority of people don't give a rats ass about a magsafe ring appearing on their leather cases or cases in general. They love the 'set it and forget it' aspect moreso than the aesthetic hit it takes on leather goods. The majority of people who use magsafe that I know absolutely love it. It's a novelty that has functionality and it worked. It took a while for it to finally catch up though--from the 12 line up to now it's finally big.
