I just bought the Taupe color in addition to the Product Red. I had Saddle Brown on my last phone so I wanted to try something different this time. I’m hoping the Taupe will patina as half as good as the Saddle Brown.
Half as good would be amazing. But pictures people have shown here, have me doubt that.

Six weeks in and I’m feeling really good about the process. Looks and feels awesome to me. Nothing more than (almost) daily use and maybe three applications of Coach leather conditioner.

I'm sure this has been mention before, I just picked up the saddle brown leather apple case but it's slippery like a wet bar of soap. How long does it take for the case to build some grip or any process to speed that up, thanks fam

Just give it a scrub with a washing up sponge, on the tough side.

This looks great! All you used was Coach Leather Conditioner?

I really really wish that Taupe was an option for the Xs Leather Folio this year; the Folios age much much slower (same material as iPad Pro 10.5 Leather Sleeve, that ages really slowly). Taupe was there for the X Folio, but was removed for the Xs; Product Red from the X remains however.

Here’s my Saddle Brown after 3 months - has a very nice darkening and the leather feels great. But I’m kind of tired of all the nicks, scratches and even tears that happen easily.

Might move to the Lopie cloth/leather case or the Radius X case/exoskeleton.

I think can just rub the scratches off quite easily?

After three weeks my black iPhone 8 case is a little better than new. but still too slippery.

I’ve resorted to adding a strip of black gaff tape to add grip. It looks reasonable to me and is nearly as sticky as a silicone case - but only where my hands grip it, so it still slides into pockets easily.

My only complaint is the tape tends to pick up fabric lint over time. But it’s cheap enough to bed replaced regularly. I tried a lighter colour but that got dirty too quick.

Don’t try this with cheap tape - real gaff tape is very thin, with slightly elastic and very soft fabric with a nice feel. The tape actually feels nicer than the leather. It also uses adhesives that will not damage the leather or leave any residue when removed. Most gaff tape is cheap garbage that lacks these qualities. I use the ProTapes brand but there are a few others just as good.

I just got my case delivered a few minutes ago so it's too new to have a patina in it yet. I ordered two cases, product red and the black. I immediately put the red case on and after years of using black leather cases, I'm amazed at how nice the red looks. I can actually see the grain in the leather. It's there on the black but it's not very noticeable. Just wanted to share this great case.

If someone as the exact same case with patina, I really want to see how it looks !

I can't believe this thread is still going! This is awesome! After being a fan of MacRumors, I finally signed up to partake in these threads. I've always had Apple Leather cases but always black or the storm grey, which was my favorite case. Like the silicones but too much of a lint trap and stuck in pockets too easily, so leather are my go to. I've always wanted to try the brown but not a fan of how it starts but man, it ages so well. Taupe caught my eye last year but got the black instead for my X. I like how Taupe starts but after researching, there is such little info on how it patinas and what there is, are mixed results. This thread definitely has helped as well as a few other sites and videos. Love the black but wanted to try something different and new so picked up a Taupe case on a nice sale, so we'll see how that goes. Hopefully the cases go on sale again during Black Friday week like last year and I'll probably pick up a saddle brown. Love how it ages!

Uploading pics of my X Black that I've had for the past year. I had it on my phone 98% of the time over the course of a year.

I've had the saddle brown leather in the iphone 6 and 7 plus, and it had a decent grip. I'm finding the one on my iphone xs max is so slippery. I tried to use acetone to wipe off the coating but still slippery.

Since iPhone X launch day, i have been using apple leather cases on it. Bought several including 1 midnight blue, 2 saddle brown and a electric blue. Despite all being leather, different color definitely has different feel and texture. IMO, saddle brown is least grippy
