Here my 1 day old Taupe leather case with manually applied "character" ;)
Now it finally feels like Alcantara leather.
Used abrasive paper + tanning oil.
Looks grey and not as blueish as on this photo.

My initial reaction was a recoil but the more I look at it the more I like it.

I'm curious how it'll hold up as it ages. Keep us up to date!

My Burkley case is in!! This will be my daily driver from here on out. It’s absolutely perfect for myself. The packaging was also a nice touch with a thank you card.

The only thing that I dislike about the Apple leather case is the fact that there is an opening where the charger/speakers are which means that that side of the phone is not protected and open to scratches.

I’ll never understand this.

Are you going to keep the phone forever?

Probably not. Why do a few scratches matter?

I ran my X for a year on an Apple Leather Case, no scratches and have now been running my XS Max in one for 3 months, still no scratches.

If you have a white iPhone with the silver/stainless steel sides, surface scratches in the metal can be buffed out with Cape Cod cloths back to a perfect shine. Don’t use them on the gold or black phones though, they’ll take the color right off.

That said, I’ve been using Apple’s leather cases for about 3 years now and haven’t had any issues with scratches in the exposed area.

If you want full coverage and a leather case your best bet is a Nomad rugged case. All the leather cases that I’ve purchased are all exposed at the bottom of the phone.

As you can see from the sidebar, they have a number of different types of leather to choose from.
I'd order one except I heard that site has slow shipping, and I'm kind of impatient.

My iPhone XS just slipped out of my hand while walking down two flights of concrete stairs.. it literally bounced off of every step all the way down and only cracked my screen protector. This was the first time I dropped my phone and my heart almost stopped lol.

I agree here. The space grey is more scratch resistant though but the stainless steal adds character with the micro abrasions that you can barely see anyways unless you are really looking at it in the right amount of light. I’ve had my iPhone X Silver SS for almost 2 years with the Apple Leather case on 98% of the time with few bouts here and there going naked with it and just fine. This coming from a person that has anxiety and ocd.

Had to go back the Product Red lol just feel like it has more character imo

In my "case", pun intended, I sell my phone to offset the cost my new phone, so for me, condition is an important factor. My phones are generally in pristine condition when I sell them so I'm able to get my price for them.

I just wanted to post about my experience with my Nomad case. When I first purchased my original Nomad rugged case back in June of this year I let it sit in the box for a while since I really didn’t like the feel/texture of it and I was also on a case binge. I was literally ordering new cases weekly until I found this thread about how leather cases patina.

Fast forward to the beginning of July when I started using my Nomad case again. I always felt that the top corners were loose fitting and slipped off to easily. On a whim, I emailed Nomad through their website contact us page explaining how I felt the top corners of the case were to loose. Without hesitation and before Nomad sent me a reply email I received an “order confirmed” email. Then a few minutes later I received an “order shipped” email from Chloë Ferrari whose title is Customer Happiness which I found kind of odd. But, that was the signature in her email. Then a follow up email with a thank you for the feedback and the new case was sent to me as a warranty replacement. I in no way wanted a replacement case because I had already put some use into my original case which was starting to develope character and a slight patina. Their customer support is awesome considering how quickly they replied and shipped out a replacement case without even asking. I have been using the new case which fits so much better for the past couple of days and will continue to do so in hopes it ages as well as my original case started too.

I apologize for the long post, but felt it was worth a read in case anyone is interested in a leather case for the xr. I am in no way affiliated with Nomad. Just my personal pleasant experience with their customer support.

The first picture is the replacement case and the second is my original case. Not much difference between the two since the picture taken are out of the box.

My Forest Green case arrived today - delighted with it- it’s basically brand new! Doesn’t even look like it’s been used. The picture below makes it appear lighter than it is. Love how it almost appears different shades of green in different lights.

Let’s see how this ages - hoping for a nice deep green.

A bargain for £35

A month and a bit on and the case has darkened a bit - not massively.

It’s hard to get a picture showing it’s true colour as it appears different in different light. Indoors, it’s a nice deep green and outdoors it’s a lot lighter.

Pic below shows it probably a few shades lighter than it is. Looks awesome against my gold XS Max
