"The patina wasn’t great all"

def a great fit, but the cases ended up looking so ugly. I am not as demanding as some of you are when it comes to fit, or weight of the case, and all that lol I just like a good hand feel and something that isnt really heavy. The silicone case Im coming from makes the iPhone 15 feel so cheap so that was a no go. Hopefully you're able to hunt down a good replacement soon

But if you have the pro max like I do, weight becomes a really big concern.

So my 6 month old managed to get ahold of my phone last week and I guess he wanted to see if the X came off. He scratched it up a little bit but I applied some conditioner and it’s started healing up already. Here is some 2 week shots of the Keyway. Starting to darken up a little and the leather feels great. It started getting darker just where my fingers rest on the phone so I’ve had to start stroking my leather at night to even it out. 😆

Hard to count patina in years (with phone cases) when so many people upgrade their phones every 12 months now 😂
Yes, so people are stuck with this fake "patina" crap which in reality is just a recolouring of your case. I wish the leather was saturated, or close to saturated, that way the patina would be way slower and more area based and not like a full coat of paint.

It's become more of a hysteria. People want to make it look like patina because they feel it is cool and they get to be part of the club that way. But no, they're not part of it.

My YMW Nappa in blue should hopefully arrive this week.
I am hoping that it fits my needs. I really liked the Lonli Classic Nappa but due to the misaligned Magnets it is unusable for me. I wrote Lonli on IG and they issued a refund no questions asked. But they also told me they don`t know how many faulty Cases are at the Amazone Warehouse and it is 50:50 Chance to get a good one so by bets are on the YMW.

I really like my blue decoded but I love nappa leather. Other than that my current Dedoced Leather case is awesome.
Please keep us updated on the the YMW case. Curious to see if it’ll be identical to the Lonli Classic Nappa since they’re allegedly from the same tannery.

Approx. ten days in the grey YMW Nappa. Starting to see some signs of use/patina creeping through. No darkening where dye would come off but actual wear like a car’s interior would, the edges of the case are starting to smooth out. Really soft to the touch.

Looks great! Any dye or color transfer? I’m assuming no, but want to double check after my terrible experience with YMW crazy horse leather staining my hands and clothes.

I just can't come to terms with where the world is going due to people demanding instant gratification. Like that special case that literally returned a case because he didn't see enough patina in 3,5 weeks was it? Dear fkn god. Patina used to be special and unique, now the kids demand it after 3 weeks "or else".

This is why we can't have patina like the old apple leather cases. Kids want it NOW so case manufacturers can't buy saturated leather because there would be too many crybabies returning the product because of too slow patina.

For reals lol. I don't like it when people accelerate the patina process either, but damn some of ya'll take it too personally.

However, I will say the worst offender of this was when Dieter from The Verge posted an article on how to force it with oils and sand paper (and referred to this very thread five years ago!). It's one thing when it's just a few of us nerds doing it, but a whole other thing giving bad advice to the mass market:

Whatever method you choose, people who actually know a little something about leatherworking are going to be kind of horrified by what you chose to do. That is fine. This is not about Doing It Right. It is about Making It Yours.
Spot on lol

That leather was different though, very very different. I absolutely 100% agree that patina is a way to make it your case, because only your specific usage created that patina, but that isn't what is happening these days. Now it is a combination of worse leather and instant gratification and it makes all cases look the same, completely uniform in color just darker.

Totally agree. I like watching the process of the case evolving over time. I am seeing slight changes in my Keyway after 3 weeks but I'm also in no rush to speed that up. I enjoy the ride watching leather cases slowly change over time. I made the mistake of trying to rush a case on my iphone 12 and it didn't turn out well then. Lessons learned. Slow patina is always better patina.

Even though I prefer the closed bottom, the plastic rings around the camera are so ugly....
Decided to order a RL
Maybe I missed a detail or maybe it was 1st batch vs 2nd batch ?

Current RL cases seem to be scheduled for shipping in sometime of December ?

That would be 2nd batch.

No none at all.

I read your post about the crazy horse. Can only assume it’s because of a more raw texture?

My RL order is in but I don't think I can wait till mid-late December if not later for it.

Dare I just go BS instead ?

That’s great! Might have to pick one up to replace my crazy leather one. Curious why you didn’t try the Lonli classic case since it looks visually very similar + the both claim to use leather from the same Italian tannery.

As to why my crash horse case stains, not sure if it’s a manufacturing defect or if this is expected behavior. Did some googling and it seems like some color transfer on light clothing could be expected, but idk, my hands were super orange just from using it formally, even after a few days, especially around my fingertips. Seems unlikely to me that most ppl would tolerate this level of color transfer.

Are you going to reach out to the seller? it's possible they didn't finish your case correctly. I'm nervous for mine to come in now. Probably going to have to apply a sealant if mine does the same. I would have ordered Nappa or waited for a different one had I known!

I have the exact same case and I wouldn’t bet on mine being actual leather. After about ten days it is totally perfect, smooth and actually a bit slippery. I’ve seen no sign of wear or change in texture and am a bit disappointed tbh.

I found the Apple leather cases started to get grippier and nicer to hold after a week or two but this one hasn’t, to the point I am thinking of giving up on it

Yeah I reached out to them and they said it was normal and I should have googled the leather type before purchasing. IMO maybe they should warn people in the description instead.

They did offer to refund it if I sent it back, but I’ve also been using it for a few days and it also has been stained by my blue jeans lol so not sure I wanna risk it to send it back and have them reject the return. That’s another thing though, the edges of the case are basically dark blue and look dirty from color transfer from my jeans onto the leather ironically lol. Seems like this case has color transfer in both ways super easily.

All this talk about Patina....
I might be the latter that has a hybrid patina since a Mag Wallet is always on the back

Who here is using a Magsfe Wallet.
I pretty much have it on mine and I find it indispensable since having one. My DL and one CC is in there and pretty much is always available since it's on my phone.

In my wallet, I keep cash and an extra card....but hardly ever needed it except for those odd ball places where they won't accept a CC.

That's a poor excuse from them. I know its AliX, but maybe don't use a leather that bleeds on stuff without finishing it properly?

Then i know what I have to not look forward to. Damn shame.

It is absolutely ridiculous that people count patina in days and weeks, what has this instant gratification world come to? Patina used to and should be counted in years not weeks.

You didn't work for that patina, it is worth nothing.
I think it’s just the nature of thin uncoated leather. I also use my phone a lot and my hands tend to sweat pretty often so i’m sure that doesn’t help it not darken as quickly. So far I think it looks nice but it would be nice if it didn’t happen as fast. From what i remember my old andar took a little bit to show anything.

That being said I love my ryan london regardless, this would also happen as fast with my old BS cases.

I asked YMW in TaoBao and they said this case would not get any patina, or very very minimal. And they said only the crazy horse case will get patina.

This grey case looks really but not patina is kind of meh for me. I really want a grey leather with patina.

You know it’s not too late to put that kid up for adoption. Just kidding, I’m sure you have a wonderful child. And the case still looks good even after it’s war scars.
