Don't worry, I'm old :p

I'll take any discount, maybe if they have a killer black friday sale, I'll be tempted to buy this and sell my MBP. The issue, is that the MBP is running well, I have no complaints, and I'll take a hit money wise selling it and then buying another machine. Besides my wife and kids would kill me, even though they don't use this machine.

If it’s running well and you’re beyond the return period it is probably hard to justify. Unless a killer sale just happens to coincide with the wife or one of the kids also needing a computer upgrade :)

Matte is always sensitive to that. I don’t know if you have ever owned a matte car or motorcycle, but they are sensitive to contaminates that can build up and make them shiny in spots, such as finger prints, road grime, etc.

The Chemical Guys Matte Detailer is a spray cleaner and sealant that will remove dust, fingerprints and in the case of vehicles road grime, soap and wax buildup, etc. It also has UV protection to help prevent fading.

I already had a 1 gallon bottle for a motorcycle, not sure I would buy it otherwise. But I figured I would try it on the Lenovo since it said was safe for sensitive matte surfaces including vinyl wraps, but I am sure Lenovo doesn’t actually recommend it. So use at your own risk.

Thanks. Given the issues, why Lenovo still use matte?

I think the matte finish is only an issue if you attempt to keep it spotless. The way that the vast majority of people use them the finish is pretty quickly uniformly matte from regular handling. I've never had a user complain about the finish in a decade of purchasing Thinkpads.

I would love that Thinkpad matte on any mobile device. From phones to laptops. It's durable, doesn't scratch easily, way nicer to touch then aluminium and generally looks rather nice. I really dig the Lenovo designs. Minimalistic with matte black colour, it looks excellent. At least to me :)

Is there something like Magsafe for X1 Extreme?
[doublepost=1539466103][/doublepost]On the X1E, I found that the trackpad is a bit too sensitity. Even I did not mean to tap on it as a click action (even I did not touch the machine), often it does that automatically even I set sensitity to the lowest. Is there a way to fix this?

This!
While my MBP 2015 is in a case and despite that has still got chipped on the edges, my T470 roams around naked without any shame and all it gets are smudges.

Sure, the T470 would have looked great in glass but I prefer the matte fingerprint magnet :D

You can adjust the touchpad sensitivity in the Windows Touchpad settings. I run mine at Medium. I also find that turning off some or all of the 'tap to click' settings helps a lot. If you want to retain some of this functionality, I turned off 'tap twice to drag and multi-select' with good results for a long time. I now just have all of these settings turned off and have gotten used to physically clicking the pad again.

There are additional settings under Additional Settings which brings up the older Mouse settings UI. Here click on the Advanced Settings and adjust the thresholds here. I run Touch Activation Threshold at one setting from the far left, and Palm Check Threshold at one setting from the far right.

I use my touchpad for 100% of my work, including docked at my desk all day doing mostly design work which requires fine control. I go back and forth between my X1 and my Macbook and find both trackpads excellent.

A Lenovo sales mentioned this:

"I have heard that using this (specifically "ROR": Residual Oil Remover), with a dust cloth. I just spray a little and work it around in spirals till dry. Works beautifully, making that rubberized surface look like new. Other lens cleaners might work just as well."

I wonder if this or the Chemical Guys Matte Detailer is better.

Well the Chemical guys product is more than just a cleaner. It is also a spray sealant and UV protectant that is made specifically for painted and vinyl matte surfaces and the ROR is made specifically for glass lenses, so if I had to make a guess I would say it is.

So these things won't leave some ugly marks on the palmrest areas nor the case? I recall that around 2005, sweat from the hands of some users caused very ugly looking palmrest area of the MBP.

Not sure what you mean my “these things.” If you are referring to the X1E, I have no idea, I haven’t owned it long enough for any long term reviews.

MacBook Pro’s did have their issues with aluminum pitting for some individuals. I understand it is rare, but can happen with some peoples body chemistry. I am not sure that issue has ever been fixed or can be fixed.
Maybe a small percentage of people will always have that issue with the aluminum?

If you are talking about products to clean it, the Chemical guys product will not leave ugly marks. No idea about ROR, I have never used it.

If you can charge through USB-C then you can buy something like this:

At that time, I used Moshi palm rest protector. It is still on my MBP2010.

Thanks.

Anybody found a USB-C charger for X1 Extreme? I asked Anker my favour brand but they don't have such product.

USB-C isn't enough for X1E since it's capped at 100W. X1E uses 135W if I remember correctly.
Maybe it will charge, but at much slower speeds. Try it out, I can't, since I don't own X1E :(

That is my understanding is that it *will* work, but it will charge more slowly and the fast charge (0-80% in 60 minutes) is definitely not possible on USB-C

@SDColorado

It should work. But I find Lenovo to bi rather picky on those kind of things. For example, I own OWC TB3 dock. It charged my MBP 15, but slowly (60W). But it won't charge my X1C. Apparently, X1C won't be charged by any dock/charger which uses less then 65W. Strange, but tested it out, and it is so. Funnily enough, dock still works (dual monitors and everything), but it simply won't charge the X1C.

So it will be interesting to see if this is the case for X1E as well.

FWIW, even a low-powered usb-c charger should charge the device when it's asleep. I have a 10w charger in the kitchen I often keep my X1C topped up with because it's convenient.

Agree that it's silly though these things won't provide ANY charge when the device is awake, unlike my Macbook.

I can hear sound moving around from these videos:

I don't know why some users complained that the speakers are not good. I can hear sound movng around. They sound excellent to me. Is it because of Dolby Atmos? Once I have connected the X1E to a TV, the sound from the TV is not good. In this case, shall I get a pair of speakers that are compatible with Dolby Atmos?

I find the laptops internal speakers to be OK, not great. Better than some, but not as good as the MacBook Pro. Part of the issue is the downward firing design vs the top firing design of the MacBook Pro.

That said, the sound on headphones using Dolby Atmos is excellent and superior imho to the MacBook Pro. But Dobly Atmos doesn't work with the built-in speakers.

Thanks. Do you have any good recommendation?

Which SSD do you recommend as the secondary internal SSD for this laptop? How about external backup SSD?
