At the risk of being a film bore (I'm happy to take the risk...!), I only know about the connotation because of the cult 80s classic film, 'Repo man'. It isn't a term that gets used over here (in the UK).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087995/

Market is fine. In the UK anyway...!
I imagine that's because if you can get a car in the UK, you tend to keep it. All the hoops you guys have to jump through is just ridiculous!

Tax, insurance, licensing, permits, fees, petrol, etc. And God help you if you fall down on any of it!

If you can afford all of that you can afford car payments.

Oh, it's not that bad, assuming you don't have a ridiculously uneconomical car of course... I pay £30 tax/yr, £300 insurance/yr, a license works out at, let's say, £5/yr over a few years, £120 emergency recovery, I have a parking permit for £30/yr, maybe £500/yr fuel (64 mpg helps). I have no payments since I bought the car outright, but over the 8 years since my previous car it works out at £1000/yr. So, all told, £166/mnth including all costs, except any repairs. I think that's about $280'ish for a five year old car, seems ok to me.

I realise I'm super off-topic. But in my defence eyoungren has led me astray. Also, plenty of people get repomen here, but they just get called debt collectors.

64MPG  I'm lucky if my truck gets 13.

I suspect Apple would have issues with the App Store part, I would avoid. Also usually Repo means Repossession as another poster pointed out, so would have potentially awkward connotations. So, I'd stick with your PowerPC market, or PowerPC depot, or PowerPC Archive, etc.

Great idea BTW!

How about Power Apps Store?

If you need anywhere to host some of the apps that developers have long since ditched (if this idea ever sees the light of day), I have a 50GB Box account sat empty doing nothing that can be used (since I'll probably never use it).

Power Store might be a good name if it hasn't been suggested already.

And don't forget that 64mpg in the UK is only 53mpg in the US.

My Beemer gets 70+ mpg (UK) .....

..... but then again it is a 650 single motorbike :D

Cheers :)

What was the original topic again?

I think that using the title of 'Store' or any other similar term would be strange as software available through this service probably would have to be freeware/shareware (unless you could find developers willing to sell their programs via this service).

I like the idea of 'PPC Vault', especially as most of these programs are old versions or abandonware. This lends itself to a nice looking icon as well :p

I like this idea, but the minute you put up anything with any part of a word/name or symbols that belong to any of apple's trademarks/copyrights/patents, they will send a team of guys in really black suits and sunglasses with really big guns to see you really late at night........

And thats AFTER they send you approx. 5.237m cease & desist letters and 2.96k phone calls from their lawyers......  :(

Ever heard of VHD Vault where you could find Windows keys and ISOs/VHDs that were hosted on Megaupload? I took that project over and had a good 6 month run!

Great idea! Might want to stay away from calling it App Store though, don't want to poke that bear if you can stay away IMO. Maybe go with "Leopard Market" or "Leopard Superstore" or something similar.
Better not use "leopard" because apple has copyright on that too

No. They can't prevent you from using "app store" in the name.

I don't think they can just buy the name of a cat...
I think Leopard Market sounds pretty good, and, you can always change the name after you've downloaded it if you end up not liking it ;)

That's the thing. Litigation and copyright are funny things.

From Wikipedia regarding OS X 10.2…

"Mac OS X v10.2 was never officially referred to as Jaguar in the United Kingdom due to an agreement with the car manufacturer Jaguar, although boxes and CDs still bore the Jaguar-fur logo."

These "laws" are ridiculous. We should ask the cats if they want their name copyrighted first! Duh! :D

I've always wanted to do a project like this. I just don't like using MonoDevelop/Xamarin. Visual Studio is the best for my needs. My fingers are itching now. Thanks a lot. :p

Just call it "Leopard Store".

They cannot possibly have "Leopard" trademarked, right?

Looks like someone was impressed enough to borrow your idea for Windows 2000:

Hmmm... id be interested to see how that project turns out as well.

Gee... if I was doing this for Windows 2000 I would get it done in a week!

But since this is all for mac and Xcode is completely new to me, takes some extra time! I'd certainly be interested to see how it all goes for "startmenuisgone!"

I'm digging "Power Store" or "Power App Store" or "Power Market". Sounds nice and clean and professional

Out of curiosity, what platform are you building this project on? A PPC computer or a modern computer than can somehow compile in universal binary? Actually, can current versions of Xcode compile in universal binary or when was that dropped?
