There is no ETA yet, but Keaton is a very skilled programmer and got a working demo done tonight. Progress is being made and it is coming along smoothly.

Let me know when it's ready, can't wait to try it. Also haven't gotten everything I need on the PowerBook yet.

Really looking forward to this. Glad to see that the project hasn't fallen to the wayside.

To be clear, the demo was an Intel build on Yosemite. I am now porting it back to SL for PPC compilation. The biggest issue is that I started coding with Xcode 4, I never learned autorelease methods and whatnot. Nonetheless, the gears are moving, albeit slowly.

HAte to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm not sure how far I can get into this. My next two weeks are filled with my job (thursday, friday) class I teach (wednesday) boy scouts (tuesday) classes (monday) and to top it all off, every day for two weeks, I'm going to a driving school till 6:30.

I must say I'm quite exited that over 10 years later people are actively creating software for what is commonly seen as a dead architecture. PPC isn't dead! Lol

Hi there Jonas, first time I've seen your name in the forums in a while!

True! I've been a bit busy with life, lol. Finally got back into using my iBook G4 recently. I was trying to sell it on eBay, but with no success, so instead just decided to keep it. There's not a whole lot of profit to make on this machine anyway.

Count me in for beta testing, as well.

My opinion: Make it work on both Tiger and Leopard. Strip the reference to it being a repository for Leopard software, maybe generalize the name. Something simple. Something that references the PowerPC architecture and our willingness to keep it alive.

Name suggestion: Power Vault or PowerPC Vault.

I just wanted to chime in with an update on the progress. Right now there are two different ways that we can go with this project. Gavin and Keaton really like option A which would be nearly a full on app store application. It however requires vast programming knowledge and time. Keaton is the only one with nearly enough knowledge and he has little time for this project. He is struggling with programming using Xcode 3 with the lack of features like ARC and other things in newer versions of Xcode which he learned with. Option B is much simpler but it is still a bit of a challenge if I were to program it. I do not have even half of the programming knowledge that Keaton does, but I do have a little more time to devote to this project than him. The plus side to option A is that it is cleaner and more "complete" but option B will offer easier updates. There will be more details to come in the coming week.

Obviously we want to make this project happen! That being said, Keaton is tied up with other activities and even he is struggling with some programming aspects as he began by learning on newer tools. Gavin is a great designer but lacks the programming skills and my own skills of Objective C are rather lacking. We are trying our best and are looking for the best avenue to get this done!

I can't contribute coding wise to the project... not my area of knowledge at all.

But if you guys decide to add any audio elements to the user interface, or intro music or anything, I'm your guy. :) I just want to help in anyway I can.

Thank you for the offer. I do not see a need for that right now but will let you know.

Any updates on the progress now? I know building apps on those older versions of Xcode can be challenging since I began on newer versions as well.

Yes. I have a basic version working that is linking to the existing PPC Archive site but I am trying to get downloading working, which is rather tricky on the older framework. Then, the application will be built around a new web service that only the app can access.

I've all but given up since I've got other stuff taking up my time, today is one of the first reals days of rest I've gotten.

I still love the idea of Leopard Market. Hope this will generate two sequels when it takes off:

1. Tiger Mart for 10.4 users.

2. Moonlight Mart for OS 9 users (we do exist!)

Good idea, but if we are struggling to build one for OS X Leopard, I don't know how we can make one for OS 9, lol. Once Gavin gets the OS 9 part of the archive online, there is a chance we can do it, but it's going to be very hard to develop an app for OS 9.
