While in the Spaces screen, holding down Shift while dragging a window to a different space will cause it to keep its position on the screen.
This also will drag all of the windows associated with the app (or Finder) you are using to another Space.

Ex. Open at least 2 Finder windows (Cmd+N) and then press shift and drag and it will drag all the Finder windows over.

Mail has had the nickname addressee feature since at least 10.3 panther. I'm writing on 10.3 right now, so I'm certain. I click the To: address field, type "da" then it auto recognizes the nickname "Dad," and all I do is hit enter and it fills in the correct address.

That has never worked and I am pretty sure this is new to Leopard.

Just noticed this during a reinstall - if you run the utilities off of the Leopard disk at start-up, there is now a firmware password option that was not available for intel macs on 10.4.
Nice added security feature - and also a really bad one if you forget the password.;)

Just change the memory configuration and restart ;)

Yeah, everyone has been customizing their dock, but no one has really taken advantage of Time machine's easy customizability.

The "I didn't know Leopard could do that" thread! (hidden shortcuts too)

Just post the things you never knew leopard could do.

Here is my list:

Zooming into an image in QuickLook by Option+Clicking the image in quicklook.

push a window to the side of the screen to move it into the next space.

Drag a tab out of the window to make a new window.

Your turn. I think it will be a great way to show some Hidden leopard features, I have others, but, I think these are the hardest to find, the last one is probably known.

EDIT: There are more, better hidden features mentioned through-out the thread, just keep reading.

Merge?

The others I knew, this one I didn't!

And Shift+Option+Click to zoom out. You can move around, it seems like a useless feature to me, but nice apple included it. Apple does a good job of things. Its like they're the customer, i wanted to send a picture in an email, and wished if i dropped the image over the mail icon it would send. Incidently, it worked!!! Apple puts a lot of work into their OS.

To add to this, you can hold down Option and use the scroll wheel of your mouse or the scrolling on your trackpad to zoom in/out of images in Quick Look as well.

And CMD+Option+Y on the file goes straight to fullscreen Quicklook :)

I've read that you can do this, but it doesn't seem to work for me. What is the trick?

for example, you're in safari, drag the window to the dead edge of the screen, and YOU NEED SPACES ENABLED TO DO THIS, after a second, it will move the window into the other space.

Incremental volume increase/decrease

Hold Shift+Option+Volume key

Nifty, the Apple cinema displays are like that for increasing the backlight. I was hoping its the same for my imac, but no, still nice feature, but I dont think I need that much a specific Volume.

Thanks, I'll try it again when I'm back at the office (the macs at home are still running Tiger), but I thought that was exactly what I did. Maybe I didn't wait long enough.

not sure if it's a new leopard feature, but alt/opt + clicking the airport icon in the menu bar brings up extra information about the current connection... mac address, channel, rssi, and transmit rate. :)

Not seeing that:

But network utility does:

Not for me. I only get a list of the available networks.

Incremental volume increase/decrease

Hold Shift+Option+Volume key

Shift+Volume key disables the playback sound for volume changes.

And of course, Option+Volume or Option+Brightness opens its respective Preference pane in System Preferences.

When you press enter to rename a file, the extension is not selected. (I would have upgraded to Leopard just for this.)

Never knew that, this thread really is turning out what I though it would be!!

I LOVE that feature, very convenient. As I've said, Apple puts their feet into the customers shoes, and do a great job of designing the OS
