Want it, need it, gotta have it

There is some haranguing going on about Apple geeks who find each successive iteration of a product a 'must have.' Well, I had my PB G4 800 running 24/7 for four years or so, thought to replace it with each successive version, but loved that PB. It finally died the final death about 8 months ago. Just in time to be replaced by the first LED 15" MBP. But with shipping delays, by the time my order was being fulfilled, I was off to places where a laptop would get little use. So I took the opportunity to cancel the order (after all, the store had my money and was willing) and wait for the next generation, knowing the Penryn was coming - seemed a worthwhile wait. I expect this machine to last, and last, and last, just like the last. Must have... yes. Because it is the newest and coolest? Probably. Because I need a new machine? Definitely. I would say I lucked out in the need v. available version timing lottery. Put me down for a yes.

you know I was all for buying a macbook pro as soon as the revisions come out. I have been waiting patiently since september! Yet as time has gone on I am now 5 months down the line thinking the complete opposite. with monty literally around the corner that will see the macbook pro shrink in size and weight I think i'd be stupid to buy a penryn from what seems to be another refresh and not the full update I was looking for.

People who bought a macbook pro as far back as 2 years ago really shouldn't have too much to complain over as their macs are still probably not far off what you can buy today. The monty MBPs WILL have:

DDR3
WiMax
Smaller size (therefore less weight better cooling)
A better GPU
New case design with the new trackpad/keyboard

and possibly:
Blu Ray
HDMI connector

these are all updates worth holding out another 6 months (if you can) for as I reckon you there will be a big gap between those mbps based on Santa Claus and those based on Monty Python.

I know all of you will say theres always something else coming around the corner and some of you will probably point out the bigger updates of quad core processors in 2009 but what I am pointing out here is if you can, wait for an update worth waiting for! Penryn to me and I'm sure to a few others isn't that update.
