I believe in a 4G device, available only on some networks, so no need to produce that big amount of new iphone5's, that it could be kept secret.
Japanese "au" will have the iphone this time, and their wimax coverage is 95%, more than ready, with most of android phones coming this fall LTE ready. So it's coming for Sprint in the US, "au" in Japan, not yet in europe (not ready).
iPhone5, 4G, for selected providers. How does it sounds?

With all the rumors circulating, I sure hope they mention something about a redesign of the MBP

I think apple's successfully tricked us all. All this 4S hullabaloo the past few months is just Apple toying with our rumor reading minds as payback to the lost iPhone 4 that was found oh so long ago.

- You don't wait 16 months for just a speed bump.
- You don't let your iconic ceo step down and have you're replacement, which everyone in the tech industry will be harshly judging, launch your next, and most anticipated product being only a speed bump.
- You don't release iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 with a product named 4S.

They also need to redesign it just to shut people up about the antenna. If it has the same form factor everyones just gonna be complaining about their cell reception when the thing comes out regardless if there's a problem or not.

Anyway, I bet those at Apple are just grinning thinking about how well they have kept this thing under wraps, and can't wait to hear Cook say up on stage "one more thing..."

Apple had better really wow us tomorrow and ongoing or Android is going to gain some serious ground and soon be king of mobile. I'm seriously afraid of this happening in next 1-2 years

any time I start a sentence with iPhone, she goes 'OMG shut up with that.'

shes on her crappy Droid Pro, but shes ok with it. She said she was willing to wait for the LTE version to come out, and she wants to wait until all the kinks get sorted out (she remembers antennagate, and shes not even into tech news).

I will be a good man and buy her iPhone 5 (ill pay up to $700). She just moved to Verizon too, so no contract update for her until next year..

i don't want my girl carrying around obsolete devices. I expect her to have the latest and greatest mobile phones, tech gadgets.

I'm still pretty convinced we're getting a redesigned iPhone 5 based on that iCloud icon from a few weeks back:

What is that icon if not the iPhone 5? I really doubt that, if they were looking to put a placeholder image in there, they wouldn't have just used an iPhone 4 icon (or touch or iPad). But nope, something brand new. Fingers crossed!

I'm curious, why do you need a 64 bit iWork? Really really large spread sheets?

It's in Pages where I sometimes have lots of vector graphs, which in themselves are not huge files, that slow down and sometimes crashes the app...

Sorry, I wish I could have given you a much cooler answer, like maybe if I work for the Federal Reserve and I have to keep a Numbers tally of our national debt.

I don't understand why Apple is so fearful, but you're right. Apple has allowed their fear to show through for all to see.

If they were confident in their ability to innovate more rapidly and with greater results, they would not be wasting so much time, money and focus on their war against Google.

With so much negative energy flowing through the Apple camp, it's toxicity is harmful and terribly distracting despite their certain denial.

I would truly enjoy watching them focus on the positive, support their terrific talent within the organization and create the world class products they're capable of. It's not so much that they've slipped, since sales are record setting. Yet, just think of how much larger the juggernaut would be if 100% of their time and energy were channeled in a positive singular focus forward instead of looking back and trying to restrain the competitors.

Based on what 9to5 mac has to say about iPhone 4S pricing, I believe this years tactic is to be on all carriers with aggressive price points.

A 4S 16GB at $99 is VERY attractive to MOST people (I'm talking about people who are not nerds like us, who prob make a very small % of iPhone owners)

So here is Apple's strategy imo:

Sprint, Verizon, AT&T all with iPhones that range from Free - $299 as noted by 9to5mac

iOS5 with some great new features including Assistant that is really awesome.

iCloud and all that good stuff, making everything tying in very well.

I'd love to see iPhone 5, but I don't think we do at this point.

One last point...what if iPhone 4S has like a bigger screen and a new backing that doesn't shatter? Would that be better?

Apple Japan will have an event for the media, on the 5th, 10am.
Except in the US, does any other country have an special event too?
If not, I think it means the LTE capable iPhone will be available in selected countries only. One model for China/Bresil, another one 3G/CDMA, and the last one, maybe the iphone5, for the US and Japan, where LTE is ready.
