I've been thinking, how awkward would this naming strategy be:

4th generation iPhone = iPhone 4
5th generation iPhone = iPhone 4S
6th generation iPhone = iPhone 6

This is completely my opinion of course, but "iPhone Six" just doesn't sound as classy as "iPhone Five" or "iPhone Four." Even "iPhone Seven" sounds like a nice name to me. But... "iPhone Six"? Just doesn't sound as classy as Four or Five.
The next physical redesign of the iPhone will be the iPhone 5, regardless of whether we get the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5 (or both) tomorrow. Apple may take the path of naming the device after its generation, or may have a tick-tock cycle with redesign/renaming alternating with internal upgrade/"S" badging.

Isn't it Funny that all of these news discussion threads basically rehash the same posts over and over and over and over. Read one and you've read em all. Thank god this is almost over.

iPhone Six sounds good with the right accent - South African or similar, think about it.

iPhone Seven or iPhone's Heaven sounds like it has potential :).

If you want a preview, download Siri and say:

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL."

The response will tickle you, I think.

I tried that the other day and it didn't work, maybe I didn't word it exactly right. Another thing to ask it: "What is the meaning of life?"

Ask how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

You're assuming they will continue to name them with a number ad infinitum. What version iMac are we on?

Well, that is true. I am assuming that.

But it seems characteristic of their iOS devices: distinguishing each from in regards to its "generation." Apple tends to sell two iPhones together: last year's version and this year's version. So to avoid confusion, you'd need to distinguish it somehow, besides just calling it "iPhone." As for iPad, you can get last year's iPad refurbished, so again there remains that confusion for both Apple and the consumers, to try to distinguish which iPad they are dealing with.

For MacBooks, I know they use year numbers of when it was released, and that's adequate for now. But can you imagine calling into Apple Care and trying to recall which year your iPhone was made in? So much better and easier to just put a number behind the "iPhone."

Random question that is a bit off topic but still fits.

For ATT customers if you bought the last iPhone at the time of announcement will be eligible for an upgrade this go around?

I just thought I'd repost this post for some people just coming on to the forum conversation. For me personally, if this poster is legit, I think that's all i need to hear to expect an iPhone 5. :D

thanks immunezone :p

I know a guy in cupertino, his name is Rick Raname. I can't tell you what and where he works exactly within apple's organization. I tried pushing him in questions and he won't answer to anything for fear of losing his job.

So Apple please give him credit and a raise and a promotion because he is faithful and said nothing TO ME! I am the most obnoxious, pushy person you can ever meet.

The one thing he did say, is Apple will surprise the heck out of us all. They have been trying for so long to keep some things secret and somehow it always leaked. They are really pushing to keep the hush hush on this one.

So i can almost guarantee that it is not only going to be an iPhone 4S. He said that this is the biggest conceal job ever done by Tim Cook and Apple. One of the main reasons he was chosen by Steve to take over was his big belief in company secrets and discreetness. We can only blame Tim Cook for this one.

They have something very very special up there sleeves and have kept it so so quiet. Good job. It is not very easy in such a nosey world where people will pay for info and greedy people all over.

I have known this for the past 3 weeks and did not write anything on it. I see how many people need to know and are dying at not knowing. So since it is tomorrow i thought i would make everyone's life just a bit better for the next few hours.

BTW: The iPod Touch line is also getting a heck of a change.

Let's enjoy the ride!!

KK :D:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)

That guy is just trying to get someone at apple fired I would not be spreading that around

How much of a game changer can assistant be if Siri's app is in the app store for free and works basically how we would expect. Im sure they enhanced it using apple's money and engineers but cant be that much different. More evidence for the iphone5 redesign to carry the conversation tomorrow.

Actually it will way different. That is a two year old framework that apple has invested heavily in improving. Prepare to be stunned!

I'm going to be the jerk and admit I don't care about a new iPhone since I love my 4. I'm hoping for some new iPods...without iOS. I know! Crazy!

A totally new device

Hello all....newbie here who has been lurking for some time and couldn't resist getting in on the fun.

I was just thinking about ways that Apple could revolutionize the iPhone by revamping it as an entirely new device and came up with the following:

Imagine a device that transmits/receives more than just voice and data, but also is capable of other mediums as well. Some ideas could be: FM, IR, DECT, etc. Basically anything that uses these signals could be replaced by the iPhone. Remotes, baby monitors, your landline cordless phone, etc., all replaced by one device to make it all function.

I know that there are remote apps that are capable of controlling devices via wifi, but this would actually be hardware based.

I'm sure there are limitations, but maybe, if nothing else, this will spark some other ideas from people.

Love the forum and can't wait for tomorrow...got $ all saved up to ditch my original Droid after having to abandon my original iPhone to switch to Verizon after getting married a couple years ago.

It's a great day to be aliive!

I imagine it would have much deeper integration. The voice recognition in Siri really is impressive. Having that technology built into the OS and available to developers to take advantage of in their apps could really result in some mind blowing stuff.

No steak knife?

bigger and higher resolution screen or bust

Bigger screen I understand, but higher resolution? Are people honestly expecting the iPhone to ever get a higher res than 960-by-640?

That would mean Apple effectively quadrupling the pixel count to a res of 1920-by-1280, to maintain backwards compatibility with the App Store. Which I can pretty safely say will not happen for a screen that'll be 4 inches, 4.5 max.

Why would a higher res be needed, when you can't see the pixels now, I'm perplexed.

Sprint will never get my business, good riddance to them!

Bring on iOS 5, my iPad 2 is dying for this!

This is going to be big!

I just got a tip from a very well connected source... Tomorrow's announcement is really going to blow our minds... forget the 4S and even the 5! Tim Cook is going to announce the iPhone 6!!!!

There WILL be an iPhone 5, tomorrow; and it WILL be redesigned. :)

What makes you sure? Seriously.

If there is an iPhone 5, and they really want to keep it on the low, then that means they have yet to send anything to Foxconn. I'm sure we can all agree that Foxconn has as many holes in its security as swiss cheese. That seems to be where most of the rumors come from, and Apple knows this. If only top executives know about the iPhone 5, then keeping the rumor mill from turning is a rather simple job. Just a thought anyway, it's anyone's guess at this point. iPhone 4s to be released soon based on the leaks from Foxconn, with an iPhone 5 to be released in a month or two once Foxconn gets up to speed. That's my bet.

From what ive been reading the past few days this seems like the most plausible scenario. I think the 5 might be a little longer though

I heard the iphone 5 will let you communicate with aliens? who has the scoop on that?

Apple has done a fantastic job of keeping everyone confused. Though it seems most likely that Apple will just be releasing an iPhone 4S tomorrow, there's still evidence that an iPhone 5 could be unveiled.

Definitely one of the more interesting rumor mills for an Apple event over the last few years.

I use Voice Control daily. I have a bluetooth kit in my motorcycle helmet. The voice control lets me do a lot of cool stuff. Change playlists, check the time, place phone calls when i pull over. It will be interesting to see what this assistant does.

If the new phone turns out to be a spec bump iPhone 4S I will have a very hard time upgrading my iPhone 4 unless the assistant feature is KILLER.

wonder if there will be a way to enable it on iPhone 4 through JB a la voice control on the iPhone 3G.

I hope they bring it to the iPad 2. At least I could play with it on that.

No phone this year would be designed as a compelling upgrade to last years model. That really is not anywhere in Apple's plan, and it shouldn't be.
