One of the reasons we won't see a 4.5" screen:

http://goo.gl/f0SF1

I've thought about this too. I operate my phone with one hand all the time because i'm always on the bus, train, etc. standing...and I've thought to myself before that if I only had one hand (and sitting of course so I wouldn't fall while the train was in motion), I could still operate the phone very well. Of course some games I would be limited but playing a lot of simple games would be fine and of course using it for 'productivity' would not be a problem at all. Thumbs are amazing. :apple:

ultimatum to apple

unless ALL of the following conditions are met for iphone 5, i will be switching my allegiance to google nexus prime or motorola spyder:

1. bigger screen - 4.4" preferably
2. turn by turn gps navigation equal to or better than android.
3. lte

regards,

mike
Then I guess you're switching, because the screen will not be 4.4" even if it does increase, and lower power LTE chips won't be out for several months, so there is no way an iPhone with those specs will be available before January.

Got my hardhat ready for all the fallout that's gonna happen here when Apple doesn't announce a newly designed iPhone 5. :apple:

Macrumors is being so hideously smug about the "there is no iPhone 5" line that I no longer care about anything other than egg being on their face after all this is done.

Regardless of what happens, I'll be getting the newest phone asap. I have been using the original iPhone for over four years now. It is time.

Introducing iPhone Pro lol

i'm impressed. My first iPhone is the 3GS, and it is slowly dying.

And happening at 2am Japan time. So Apple Japan will host a media event at 10am on the 5th, which never happened before.

Is it going to be at 10am, on the 5th in Japan? Or at 10am, at the location on the map on the icon? Which way will it work... which way will it work....

Act or don't act. Talking about it is a waste of time.

Oh. I thought that guy was being funny... Wait, you mean he was actually being serious?

Meh. He's better off trolling Android forums about his now phone anyway.

for those that are saying that people are being to reliant on a redesign,

the reason we want a redesign, is not because we want a new design, its that we want a thinner phone!!! and possibly a larger screen size

Here is to a newly specced iPhone 4S and the introduction of Assistant, tomorrow.

Cheers! Everyone will be so excited tomorrow!

These events are so exciting. It's almost like being a kid again and writing your Christmas list although with an Apple event your wishing what will be announced.

I agree. :)

I don't know about that... There has been some pretty crazy predictions in the past which didn't turn out to be true at all. Remember the "iPhone nano" rumors?

I think Macrumors are being sensible here. There is no concrete evidence of a redesigned iPhone existing, apart from some "iPhone 5" cases, which by itself is not really very strong evidence.

Although I would love to see (like you) an exciting new design and some revolutionary new features, I am thinking that the "reality distortion field" is sometimes stronger with the fans than with Apple (and I am a HUGE fan).

I prefer not to get my hopes up to high and be truly surprised/blown away if they do come up with "one more thing"! :D

Let's talk, iPhone.

Like let's have a conversation with eachother. That's what the title means.

The best we can have is an iPhone 4S with a slightly larger screen (even this part is in doubt)

If it is not 4.9" what is the point? Anything under 4.9" is unusable on a phone. I also require predictive turn-by-turn gps. This is GPS that knows where I want to go before I do. It is time for Apple to catch up with the 22nd century. Android has had a similar feature (just not as predictive) for years. I require at least 100mbps mobile data. Without these changes I will switch to some other device that also does not do all these, but at least I got to make a nifty ultimatum forum post. It is not really an ultimatum because I never had any intention of buying anyway, but doesn't it make me look super keen.

No, we want a redesign because them we can show people we have the newest iPhone.

We want a redesign because we expect that a $299 smartphone should have a 4" screen, be made of a more durable material than glass, and should have no signal issues.

That, and we think it's ridiculous that Apple is trying to deflect from the issue of their inability to innovate with a new design by getting us excited for some voice recognition toy.

if it's a 4s there won't be a larger screen, the whole point is to have the same form factor as the last generation

For What Its Worth

I was talking with someone I know who works @ Apple expressing how this rumor cycle has been probably the most agitating. So much back and forth, blah blah.

Anyhow, I work in publishing (as my screen name so aptly gives away) and he isn't very high on the totem pole, but he got quiet for a second when I said that (I never really talk Apple with him, outside of publishing and iBooks) and then he said "...well, expect to be blown away this time." And that's all he'd say.

At this point, I couldn't even articulate for you what my personal definition of "blown away" would be, but it was an interesting exchange, and part of me doubts very much that anyone could expect to be blown away by the 4S. Then again, another part of me doubts that he knows much (if anything at all) about it, so I revert to my previous statements: this has been an agitating cycle!
