I've the same thinking. Whether Apple will be in the top or not if 4s is indeed the only release phone later we'll nvr known nw; but we know consumer have a choice, be it brand a or b, that best serve your needs.
if bigger screen is a concern and apple doesn't offer , there's alway other alternative.
very little users i know of are using speech-recognition-features (Andriod/iOS voice control) and i'm eagerly waiting to see if Apple Assistance can bring in mainstream users (like myself) to adopt the technology.

Didn't apple tighten up security after the iphone4 leaks and hire some serious security consultant?
With all the threats to the employees about leaks perhaps this security has paid off and the master stroke was to plant the 4S rumors. Maybe they understand how to manipulate the rumor machine better than we think.
I'd be so amazed if we still see an iPhone 4 type phone. Nothing wrong with it IMHO but apple's shares will tank.

Clearly the 1 on the sign means that they are going to be re-releasing the iPhone 1 and renaming it the iPhone Classic and replacing the touch screen with a scroll wheel....I can't see how everyone missed it....
you mean click wheel. touch screen technology is a gimmick and a dying fad and Apple has the foresight to recognize it.
There will be a Sprint specific model, whether it's a iPhone 4S variant or a redesigned phone, that's another question, but there are 3 code names leaked by Apple on SDK beta 1, not just 2:
N90A (SDK beta 1): It's almost sure that it'll be iPhone 4 8GB (Brazilian Foxconn leak confirmed it more or less)
N94 (SDK beta 1 and iTunes beta): The iPhone 4S as confirmed on iTunes Beta (iPhone 4S is clearly appearing on a .plist installed by iTunes Beta).

Fair points... but ask yourself how many pieces of software/services is Apple releasing. iCloud, iOs5, Assistant. Ian't it possible the 4 month delay was software related? I'm just saying.
I had an intense dream last night about the reveal (Sad, I know), and the big reveal was a .......CD PLAYER!! As if that were not bad (or good?) enough, Tim then proceeded to put the iCD player up to his mouth, blow on it, and it turned into a hamster ball! I am not on drugs. I have clearly solved the mystery though
sorry if I'm not right but wouldn't an iPhone 5 with bigger screen mean that app developers would have to change their apps to fit the new screen size (like iPad apps).....and if Apple is keeping the iPhone 4 as a cheaper model we would see apps for that phone screen size also....

No matter how virulent this is as a story, the hype is beyond what will arrive. And even looking at the hype, this isn't going to be a zowie-type event. Upgrading the processor is the biggest boon (we already know the OS capabilities).
My hope: an inexpensive pay-as-you-go iPhone to edge out the iPT. Regardless, nothing to go bananas about if it happens or not.

So true. I honestly believe it will be a 4S, iPhone 4 type. Apple wants to get the mile out of the manufacturing with the 4 model, and it's still technically a brilliant design. Who knows though, I imagine a little switch at the iPod or iPad factory, and they could be running aluminum back panels for the iPhone 5. Aesthetically, I'm thinking iPad 2. If the iPad 3 is radically different though, then the design continuity of their products is once again off balance.

This is interesting. Until now all you ever hear is "iPhone will get it's butt kicked," because the iPhone was considered the thing to beat, being 'in a class of it's own,' as it were. But now you're comparing another phone to an iPhone as though it were an EQUAL :O SHOCK HORROR!!!!!
No one uses FaceTime because it relies on Wifi which is a fault of the carriers, and not Apple.
That would be absolutely correct if they decided to up the resolution of the screen. If they were to keep the same resolution and up the physical size to, say, 3.7 or 4in then it would keep it's DPI (for that 'retina' feel) but would allow for more real estate.
I personally own a Galaxy S2 and I don't notice the lower resolution on the bigger screen. I do notice that lots of realestate is really nice to have for my stubby fingers. My lack of resolution seeing could simply be that I have crappy eyes, but meh.
I personally think that the GS2 has a little too much screen. I think 4in is the sweet spot when it comes to smart phone screen size.
