Based on previous events (ESP. WWDC 2010), iPhone 5/4S be announced first then the smooth transition into talking about iCloud and iOS 5.

*I named them based on the features. I really don't care about the name.

"... And today we show u the iPhone 4S the best phone on the market. the iPhone 4 had an incredible year, well received from our customers and thats why we keep the design, its amazing no wait its MAGICAL and now even 0.00001 % lighter and u can use all your cases etc from the iphone 4 it all fits perfectly. Isnt it amazing?" now onto some tweaked graphics and app previews no one cares about

Part of me thinks that this is the way it'll go. With the focus being on the assistant thingy bob.

I hope I'm wrong. But having the event at the Cupertino sit would lend itself more to that kind of presentation I think..

Facebook uses next to no bandwidth at all. Telstra own all the copper internet and phone lines, soon to be replaced by the NBN. Too many people have been put on the optus network, which is why it's crap, Telstra have a HSPA+ network on the 850MHz band, to be honest I'm actually not sure if the iPhones support it, but I'd like to see the new iPhone having support for good 3G technology (possibly LTE, which Telstra will have deployed by the end of the year).

Were you using a NextG sim? I get full reception in the melbourne tunnels on their 850 network.

Yeah it's so slow when I download stuff and when I go on websites, all I want is for it to be quicker, optus being as big as it is should be able to accomodate for the demand, otherwise there's nothing stopping people from going to another company

My last post before the big announcement. I expect:

1) iPhone 4 with 8 gb for the lower end

2) iPhone 4S for the higher end. It will be just slightly faster than the current iPhone 4 and have a slightly better camera, but Apple will downplay those issues and instead claim that the Assistant feature will revolutionize the world. Which of course it won't - it will be just one gimmick and barely used feature.

I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm right I'll just stick to my iPhone 3GS and hope that the iPhone 6 (5?) will have a better design than a brick made of glass.

I can almost read every single pre announcement post you've made in the past.

While I don't doubt they'll call the assistant feature magic, I doubt they'll claim it to revolutionize the world. You are quite correct about one thing, though. Apple will not focus on the specs. If you want specs go look at the Android phones. They got lots of spec sheets (and little else). They'll instead probably mention how the A5 chip allows them to magically magic the amazingly wonderful Assistant, or something like that.

As far as case redesign, I sometimes feel like I'm the only person that likes the iPhone 4 design.

No, i think theres about 20 million+ people that think the same

Optus is a part of SingTel which is a fairly major telco player in the south-east asian region. Why would they care about upgrading for a few million australians when their money could be spent on a bigger market. Telstra's largest market is in Australia, which is why the invest in Australian infrastructure. All I can say is that if you're not on a contract an extra few dollars a month is worth the solid reception and great speeds you'll get from Telstra.

I don't really know much about US Telco's (other than Verizon is a part of Voda). Is there a clearly superior telco?

Don't mistake your opinion for facts. Fact : The "Superphones" are all over the carrier advertising campaigns these days :

Dual core!

4G !

Big displays!

Say consumers don't care all you want, I really doubt the carriers would have been pushing this stuff for 3 months now if it didn't appeal to the masses and bring in people to buy these "SuperPhones". ;)

Your subjective opinion might differ, but the facts are plain as day. Speedbumped phones are more than just geek/developer attraction.

Consumers (the vast majority as a generalization) don't care about processors or any other internals that make up a phone or computer. The reason these other manufacturers promote this stuff is they don't have anything else to promote. If, and it is a big if, consumers care about the processor speed of their phone, it is only because they've seen and ad or heard a commercial about it. My wife, for example, pays zero attention to this stuff. She is an extremely smart woman who understands the difference between her old iP 3G and her iP4, because of how fast the 4 is compared to the 3. She can also see that the screen is sharper, but has no clue or desire to know anything about the display technology.

Apple has changed how people look at and think about smartphones and computers - it's not just a race to the cheapest POC with the "fastest" processor, like every computer and phone maker before them (although RIM hung their hat on their email capability before making any note about the internals).

Apple makes people want things that work, without knowing why or how they do what they do.

I posted carrier advertising. Not manufacturer advertising.

Again, Carriers are advertising this stuff.

Now keep saying consumers don't care all you want, that is your opinion. The carriers think the consumers care enough to advertise this stuff and the manufacturers have naught to do with it.

And seriously, Apple pushes specs when they are the spec kings as much as the next guy. They don't when they aren't.

haha yeah no one cares about Aus:( I'll be switching to telstra when my contract ends

I know a guy in cupertino, his name is Rick Raname. I can't tell you what and where he works exactly within apple's organization. I tried pushing him in questions and he won't answer to anything for fear of losing his job.

So Apple please give him credit and a raise and a promotion because he is faithful and said nothing TO ME! I am the most obnoxious, pushy person you can ever meet.

The one thing he did say, is Apple will surprise the heck out of us all. They have been trying for so long to keep some things secret and somehow it always leaked. They are really pushing to keep the hush hush on this one.

So i can almost guarantee that it is not only going to be an iPhone 4S. He said that this is the biggest conceal job ever done by Tim Cook and Apple. One of the main reasons he was chosen by Steve to take over was his big belief in company secrets and discreetness. We can only blame Tim Cook for this one.

They have something very very special up there sleeves and have kept it so so quiet. Good job. It is not very easy in such a nosey world where people will pay for info and greedy people all over.

I have known this for the past 3 weeks and did not write anything on it. I see how many people need to know and are dying at not knowing. So since it is tomorrow i thought i would make everyone's life just a bit better for the next few hours.

BTW: The iPod Touch line is also getting a heck of a change.

Let's enjoy the ride!!

KK :D:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
You don't know anything.

The fact that you even put a name up is ridiculous. LMAO@apple give this guy a raise. Sure.

I think the vast majority of users looking into smartphones actually do care. I think what they don't care about is random numbers, but what they prefer to see are graphs or comparisons showing relative performance. They want to know that when they get their phone it'll run smooth without horrid lag.

Anyone from Melbourne or atleast Australia? and knows what site I can watch the replay of tonights "let's talk iPhone" ?

Hey, be happy with what you get. Here in Australia we still have internet caps because our a**hole government actually took the telco's word for it when they said "you need caps."

I'm on one of the best plans with our best carrier in Australia and I only get 1.5GB, for $59 a month! How crap is that!?

Oh for sure, that and the 3 year contracts our neighbors to the north have to deal with, I'm grateful for sure. Just pointing out the main possibility why no one uses FaceTime

I'll start camping tonight if those rumors prove to be true! :D

The world economy is falling apart, and look at us whine over the iPhone 5! :)

It's not about what the company can do for you, it's all about what you can do for the company.
So if you don't like the 4S and disappointed that there will be no iPhone 5 (were you disappointed in the 3S?), buy an Android phone, or Windows, or... Blackberry? Or maybe you don't need a new phone at all...?

Enjoy the show today.

My prediction:

iPhone 5 with bigger screen, A5, 64GB, iOS 5
iPhone 4S as entry level basically the same as the current iPhone 4 with the antenna issue alleviated. (knowing apple they'll be so arrogant they won't even fix the antenna)
iPod Touch in white with virtually no changes, maybe A5
iPod Classic (sadly since it is my favorite iPod) killed
iPod Shuffle still exists in current form but with 4GB at same price as the 2GB
iPod Nano 16GB & 32GB w/ wimpy camera, output video support (really surprised there is nothing on this other than that camera rumor 6 months ago)

The the 100% guarantee is that many people here disappointed and comes here and says how this is the most disappointing apple event EVER! (This happens EVERY FREAKIN TIME).

My hopes that will probably NOT happen:
Classic 220GB with HD Video Output support
Nano with 32GB, enlarged screen to match the size of the screen in the 5th gen (2.2")
iPod Touch sports a larger screen with the elusive 128GB capacity, A5 Chip(I have my doubts due directly to iCloud, Apple seems to be about making money monthly/yearly/through store instead of releasing products that consumers want.)

I am completely out of my contract with t-mobile yet I still haven't found a smart phone that is worth investing. Seems like Samsung & HTC come out with a new one every week and the iPhone doesn't matter to me because I already have a iPod Touch.

If you have a true partnership, then you discuss all major purchases, especially electronics.

Yeah, right, I'm going to ask my girlfriend if she's okay with me spending a couple hundred bucks on a new phone  What the hell, dude? She'd probably give me a puzzled look and tell me "it's your money".

Or do you think a "true partnership" is one in which the partners don't have control over their own funds? Holy hell.

Check your iTunes for Apple podcasts later in the day, or the next day.
The Apple website may also have a delayed stream.

Big reasons I don't?

1) It's a paid app, why the hell would I pay for it if someone like skype can offer a comparible service
2) Only works on apple products. Despite the gains in market share, apple still only have a percentage of the market, to not open their software up to other platforms seriously limits who you can talk to.
3) The Wi-Fi only issue is a big-un. Skype, for example, only uses a very small amount of data, even for video. Works great over my 3G network :)

This is awesome ... it will be 6pm here in the UK .. so I guess I can just have my dinner on my computer desk .. who needs TV when you got entertainment like this!

here's wishing for ios5 availability from today and iphone 4s/5 within 2 weeks!

It's a paid app? I have FaceTime on my iPhone 4, iPad 2, and my 2011 MacBook Pro, all for free, never paid for any of them.

Only works on Apple products? Well I thought that one was a given, considering it was created by, and for Apple products.

The Wifi issue is likely set in place due to carrier data restrictions, and not one Apple is too fond of I'm sure. Just like MMS, and tethering that took forever to actually come.

I find it hard to believe that Apple would screw ATT customers for Sprint. admittedly money is money, and that is what Apple is in business for.
