When you're married with kids it gets a little more complicated. Kids need new clothes, shoes, toys. Who pays? My wife is a stay at home mum. Looking after my children. I'm not going to leaver her penniless cause she doesn't have her own income. We share everything.

That doesn't make your relationship any truer. It just means you gave away your freedom. That doesn't make you pathetic.

You are quite correct. I am not pathetic.

I'm pretty sure the GST is responsible (at least in part) for the price difference.

I'm also from Melbourne btw, you planning to stay up for the event in another 3 or so hours?

Hell no! I have to wake up in the morning and design a camera mount for a rocket launch (no joke, don't you love uni :D ) GST is SOOOOO not responsible. GST is +10%, where's the price differences are usually double or more what they are in the US.

Screen Size Change Problematic

I was under the impression that changing the screen size would be really problematic for app developers. Wouldn't they all have to re-write their apps to make them compatible with the larger screen? It seems to me that's one of the key points which squelched the idea of a 7 inch iPad (in addition to Job's correct perception that 7" is just too small). Therefore I don't believe that a larger screen size is in the cards.

Only if the resolution were changed. Same resolution with a slightly bigger screen would present no problems to developers.

As for 7 inch, I agree with you, I'd prefer something larger... Say, 15in... running a full desktop OS.... BUUUUUT it's a matter of choice, I know plenty of people who love 7 inch tablets.

I think apple's successfully tricked us all. All this 4S hullabaloo the past few months is just Apple toying with our rumor reading minds as payback to the lost iPhone 4 that was found oh so long ago.

- You don't wait 16 months for just a speed bump.
- You don't let your iconic ceo step down and have you're replacement, which everyone in the tech industry will be harshly judging, launch your next, and most anticipated product being only a speed bump.
- You don't release iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 with a product named 4S.

They also need to redesign it just to shut people up about the antenna. If it has the same form factor everyones just gonna be complaining about their cell reception when the thing comes out regardless if there's a problem or not.

Anyway, I bet those at Apple are just grinning thinking about how well they have kept this thing under wraps, and can't wait to hear Cook say up on stage "one more thing..."

A post with some actual thought behind it. Nicely put. In addition, I suspect Apple has allowed just enough "leakage" of iPhone 4s stuff to keep people focused on that rather than the evidence found supporting an iPhone 5. As documented on this site, there has been plenty of evidence to hint at an iPhone 5, just not as much evidence as the iPhone 4s. Superb deflection ploy by Apple. Lastly, today's event is probably the most hyped Apple event in the life of the company due to the fact of their world-wide popularity, industry changing products, industry leading foresight and of course the media bandwagon. They know this, they've built it up to this and they certainly aren't going to squander it on a speed bump for the iPhone 4. No chance.

I find it hard to believe that Apple would screw ATT customers for Sprint. admittedly money is money, and that is what Apple is in business for.
Apple isn't going to screw anyone for Sprint. The appropriate chips for WiMax are available now, the low-power LTE chips are not. As soon as it is technically feasible for Apple to add LTE phones with decent battery life, it will.

Yeah, I +seriously+ doubt they'll do this [re: Sprint exclusive]

It's advantageous for Sprint to pick up the iPhone (maybe the iPad) and they don't really have any leverage. What are they going to say to Apple? "You don't give us exclusivity, we won't sell the iPhone". Apple has the ball in their court and are in such a strong financial position.

No you're not, you sound like an awesome husband and dad. :)

That doesn't make your relationship any truer.

I believe he meant true as in they approach everything together, including purchases, even if they seem trivial to other people.

Thank you.

That's a big compliment to me.

I was simply pointing out that for any new device it is free.

That's not the point. The point is that it's a bit of a 'screw you' to customers who didn't happen to buy their laptop/phone/desktop after a certain date. Just seems a little silly that it works fine for free on OSX on a 2010 Macbook Pro, but not a 2008, just because apple wants an extra buck.

Agree

This is probably the most eagerly awaited moment in the technology world since the invention of the tv set, there is no way Apple are going to after all this hype, expectation and publicity just bump up the speed of the existing phone, it is totally unrealistic, the eyes of the world are on Apple today, the world is going to more or less come to a stop at 6pm UK time so Apple know this and will not just release a speed bump, it is going to be a massive upgrade both interior and exterior

New Iphone

I just hope to god it's a new thinner design because the 3gs is more comfortable in the hand than my iPhone 4!!! All will will told in 3.5 hours!!

Yeah, it looks terrible. I didn't do it though. - Got better skills than that.

But why on earth would amazon like ?? Even check the URL....its not a hoxt

No you are not. You are a great husband and dad.

I am a single guy, my own boss and can do whatever the heck I want with my money. It's overrated though, I'd rather make half as much and have a loving family like you, even if it meant having to take permission to buy something :).

The worst than can happen to a relationship is not arguement, it is when people just stop caring. So your wife giving you a hard time for an impulsive purchse is a sign of love. Peace!

Thank you.

That's a big compliment to me.

And it should be. Ranking your wifes and childrens happiness over yet another iPhone made me smile. That's loving your next, because when it comes down to all, for gods sake, it's just a phone ;)

You? Pathetic? Please...

Kudos to you!

Well if you had read the link I posted you would've seen the reasons why there is a charge. You can aruge that it is a bit odd but it was not the point you were originally bringing up.

Your original point was that it was an apple tax on Austrialia claiming they were ripping you off. I pointed out that it is not location specific more time specific and is not an issue for any devices going forwards while also providing you the reason why this is the case. So it was very much the point.

LTE is not widespread enough yet, and the chips are not available in the quantities required for iPhones. Not going to happen, IMO.

Not LTE but WiMax is, might explain why Sprint have to commit to buying so many phones
