If you have questions about this display you're welcomed to ask... :)

Here are a few photos I managed to take amidst doing things.

I hope it is okay to go slightly off topic as this is in the Mac Pro section, but I've been scoping out this monitor to see if it would work with my late 2013 iMac and I see you have one in this picture.

When you were originally unboxing it, did you happen to plug the monitor into the iMac to see if it would recognize it at all? I did the math on the 34UM95 and Thunderbolt 1 can support the bandwidth requirements of the monitor at native resolution/10-bit/60Hz (8.92Gb/s), but they seem to only be marketing this one as a Mac Pro display.

Thanks for any help, and sorry for going off topic/category. The thread on this screen in the iMac section seems to be quite dead.

LG is releasing a nMP Monitor soon

How does it feels watching a movie in that?

Thank you for your time mate, great monitor you have! :)

Cheers,

I will see if I can drag it away from my son's project work over this coming weekend to test that... should be easy to do.... will post back later. :)

Another question, is it running full res @60HZ under both OSX and windows?

We don't have a use for Windows OS, so cannot answer that question.

Here's the System Profiler's report for the Graphics/Displays for your enjoyment. :)

Son found a manual on the provided optical disk, but is was all in Korean...:( ...so will have to find an English version online or ask LG's help line for it.

I sense this shipping and product release was a bit rushed and that this is the reason we have little instructions and operator's manual in English... just a thought mind you.

Have I got this right... Resolution is 3440 x 1440 = 4,953,600

N.B. Tried to register the 34UM95 LG display but LG's website registration page does not identify the 34UM95 model in their popup selection. Guess will have to wait for LG to update things. Suspect this is because this 34UM95 is so new and has yet to get placed into their registration data base.

So today I managed to get hold of LG help line in Philippines and the person was absolutely surprised I had received the LG 34UM95 21:9 display as at this time it's only being sold in Korea and UK. This is why it does not show up in the LG USA website products. If one goes to the LG UK website http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-34UM95 it is shown as being available. However, the Owner's Manual in English is not available even in the UK web site. The person I talked with was very good and was able to dig the English version out of the bowels of LG's database and Emailed it to me. It's 38 pages long and I have it in PDF format. If anyone wants this manual post back here and we can arrange something. The PDF file size is around 7 MB, but the Email from LG showed it as being 29 MB.... weird that.

I did ask about warranty and was told 1 year + labour. All that is needed is the product's invoice as proof.

If you plug in the monitor via Thunderbolt, can you access USB devices attached to the monitor, or do you have to use the USB cable from the monitor to the Mac Pro?

I plugged a USB3 drive to the LG Monitor and MP6,1 discovered it without issues. There are 3 USB3 ports on the LG display and all three worked in this manner.

USB port 1 delivers 5v and 1.1 amps
USB ports 2 & 3 deliver 5v and 0.5 amps

I hope that answers your question(s).

Yes, this works fine. I tested this today and it worked flawlessly.

Very nice. Thank you for testing that out for me. Looks like I can now just wait for this monitor to become available at US retailers rather than hold onto hope for a new Apple display.

Interesting to see how much vertical cropping there is. I guess it was inevitable but more than I expected. Would also be interested to see any other scales available.

its the same height as a 27" it's just wider. Did you expect it to be taller?

^^^^Actually a 21:9 aspect ratio monitor has the same screen height as a monitor with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Same vertical real-estate, more horizontal real-estate.

True, thats what I meant.

I would've preferred more vertical real estate as well.

Sweet looking monitor. :) And at a good price.

But not significantly more pixels than my current 30"

30" - 4.1MP
LG - 5.0MP
4K - 8.6MP

Waiting for a 4K display closer to 40"

Two links full of a mish-mash of opinions and facts.

It would seem that the obvious definition of "4K" is twice the pixels of "TrueHD" in both dimensions. While that comes to 3840x2160 (which is slightly less than 4000 pixels horizontal) it's a simple doubling of 1080 HD.

How about explaining how the LG fails to be "true 4K", and what it would really mean to the buyer?

The "true 4 K" is of the resolution of 4096 x 2160.

The resolution of 3840 x 2160 is actually "ultra high definition".

So, when I play UHD material I will get 128 pixel black bands on the left and right edges if I have a "True 4K" display, and no letter-boxing if I have a UHD display.

Yawn.... I don't see that the difference is significant.

anymore pics or videos of the monitor? I would love to see some first hand user experience. I am getting pretty close to picking this up from B&H but would love to see more input. The pictures help greatly, but anything from working with it for the past weekend would be great!
