Apple is unlikely to release a ultra widescreen monitor. They'll do a 27" regular widescreen 4k instead.

The page linked above has removed that disclaimer and has replaced it with:

"New Item, Available for pre-order"

Why does B&H not show a photo of this display when it must be easy to find one for this purpose. No photo makes me think B&H is hiding something. The Product description title "LG Electronics 34" LED D-SUB DVI HDMI DISPLY PORT MON" also is misleading IMO. Do a google search with this text for example!

Lol ... Yeah BH likes to fool it's customers! Seriously ....

I placed a pre-order from B&H for the $999 one. Presumably that's the TB2? It's not clear but surely I can run a single TB cable from the nMP to the monitor, and that will feed the display and the USB.

Will update how it goes. This is a nice solution to wide screen gaming I think. The only downside for me is that it is a matte display which I don't like. I've gotten used to the Apple glossy, which doesn't have the clarity loss of matte. Maybe they've gotten better though.

My Email correspondence from Order information from Amazon seller MNW GLOBAL has indicated mid April to end of April for delivery, along with a nice gift for being patient. :) They offer full refund if I choose not to wait. I'm waiting.

Latest Email states delivery/shipping will be April 18... but don't know what will be the free gift they promised me for waiting.

I'm pretty sure that this doesn't act like an Apple Thunderbolt Display, in that you will need to run a separate USB3 cable to our computer to use the built-in hub. I read through the manual and that's what it says. Thunderbolt is purely for video and Thunderbolt pass-through.

Ah, too bad, Rather silly on their part.

I think I'll cancel though. I have since discovered that Apple is driving all the displays with one GPU. So that one GPU will be pushing a lot of pixels. Also while I can fit it on my desk it's not ideal, it pushes the other too off to the side too much.

There is a "B" connector on the back which is a pretty clear indicator to me.

Hmmm, 7 days to go.... :)

It was delivered today... big box. Will set it up tomorrow on my MP6,1 12core/D700s/64GB-RAM/1TB -SSD model ... :)

LogMeIn use with the LG display

I frequently use LogMeIn to access the MP6,1 in the office from home, and wonder just how will that 34" LG display look on my 17-inch MBP8,3 (late 2011 model) ?

Well, I had but about 90 minutes to help my son setup the LG display in his office this morning. Photos below show the activities etc.

There's a lack of instructions and what there is, is mostly in Korean :( with the odd line in English :). There's no Thunderbolt cable. :( There's a web site for getting help and the welcome letter is encouraging saying they're there to help. :roll eyes:

It is well packed and there was no damage seen anywhere. The display can be angled forward and backwards about 10º to 15º and it has 4 VESA bolt holes on the back along with a paper template for this as well.

The display is handsome IMO, and because of its 21:9 its height is not objectionable.

There were no instructions describing how best to connect the display to the MP6,1 and to what Thunderbolt Bus/Port would be best for it to connect to.

The power cord's native end is for Korean wall sockets and an adapter is provided for US wall sockets... thank goodness.

Without instructions finding where the displays power button was not obvious. After a few moments it was found at the base of display. It's a toggle lever. Pressing it powers on the display. The toggle feature allows easy navigation to to on screen menus.

Hooked a USB2 keyboard to the "USB IN 1" marked port and that worked AOK.

It was a bit of trial and error to figure out what Thunderbolt ports to be used as there was a TV, a 20" ACD/DVI and the LG display to hook up.

To cut a short story even shorter this is what worked...

1) TV attached to MP6,1's HDMI port on Bus 0.

2) 20" connected via DVI-to-MDP to Bus 1, port 1

3) LG display connected via Thunderbolt cable attached to Bus 2 port 2

4) 4x 6TB LaCie 2big daisy chained off MP6,1's Bus 1, port 3 along with a 5-bay Burly Port Multiplier eSATA enclosure connected to the last LaCie 2big via Sonnet adapter and Sonnet Express|34 card.

The LG display is fabulous to view, text is very clear, Dock icons are very sharp... (my first impressions). Had to raise it off the desk surface by about 2 inches to get optimum viewing height.

Son had some 4K content work he was doing for BMW Motorcycles and that played nicely. (a very quick review).

As an aside, as we were playing around with figuring out Thunderbolt ports to connect things to we did so while the MP6,1 was running and we encountered at least 2 system crashes. I attribute this to messing around too much with cable connections etc.... that is, plugging and unplugging connectors.

I left son to play some more with things, get online to find an 'English speaking operations manual', and to ask where his promised present was lurking after being so patient waiting for this display to arrive. :p

Oh... there was a disk containing software, so son will examine that to see if there's a manual on that, plus any other useful goodies.

If you have questions about this display you're welcomed to ask... :)

Here are a few photos I managed to take amidst doing things.

Many tanks for your review:) what about color accuracy?

Son found a manual on the provided optical disk, but is was all in Korean...:( ...so will have to find an English version online or ask LG's help line for it.

I sense this shipping and product release was a bit rushed and that this is the reason we have little instructions and operator's manual in English... just a thought mind you.

Have I got this right... Resolution is 3440 x 1440 = 4,953,600

N.B. Tried to register the 34UM95 LG display but LG's website registration page does not identify the 34UM95 model in their popup selection. Guess will have to wait for LG to update things. Suspect this is because this 34UM95 is so new and has yet to get placed into their registration data base.

If you plug in the monitor via Thunderbolt, can you access USB devices attached to the monitor, or do you have to use the USB cable from the monitor to the Mac Pro?

The MP6,1 was connected to the LG display via Thunderbolt cable. A USB keyboard was connected to "USB IN 1" on back of the LG display and KB worked AOK. Does that answer your question ?
