So, when I play UHD material I will get 128 pixel black bands on the left and right edges if I have a "True 4K" display, and no letter-boxing if I have a UHD display.

Yawn.... I don't see that the difference is significant.

The LG 34UM95 has about 5M pixels, whereas a UHD monitor has 8M plus. The big difference is 1440 vs 2160 vertical pixels. LG is releasing a true 4K 31" a thunderbolt 2 monitor this summer with 4096x2160 pixels with model number 31MU95. If you are working with 4K or UHD video, then there is a big difference between those resolutions and the LG 34" ultrawide because it can not show all the pixels of the video.

Agree. :)

Thanks, I missed that.

FYI.... Adobe playback full screen on LG

One thing my son has noticed is that when in Adobe Premier on the LG screen and wishing to playback full screen on the LG, the LG can be selected but no playback results.

Now placing the Adobe Premier on a 2nd display such as the 20" Apple ACD and then selecting the LG for full screen playback, the playback will play on the LG, but the vertical is squished down to fit the 1440 vertical resolution. My son was able to tweak something (not sure what it was) in Premier and tried again and this time the playback on the LG was not squished vertically. I will ask son what it was he tweaked.

Looks like a great display for what I want but my Mac Pro arrives tomorrow so I decided to buy an LG 27EA83-D to use until the 34" is available as my primary screen. I like the idea that my side by side LG monitors will match my side by side LG washer and dryer but the laundry room is a bit humid for an office.:D

I noticed I could only view my Macbook Air at 1920x1080 using a TB to HDMI adapter whereas my Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus could display 2560x1440 with a microHDMI to HDMI cable. I'm not sure if this was due to the TB adapter, cables or HDMI capabilities of the laptops. A Monoprice cable is on the way for the MBA and the Mac Pro to use MiniDisplayport and Displayport.

I think the new 34" LG has Thunderbolt so that should make for an easier set for the Macs.

Had some time to think and got an Dell UP3214Q instead. It costs way more but I would have gotten a 4K display next anyhow...:D I still think the LG34 is awesome, so congrats to anyone who receives it within the next days!

Other than him being twitchy that was a good review and exactly my thoughts on monitors. I think what people really want is size - big, rather than number of pixels. Sure more pixels are nice, but other than a bit of clarity what do they really buy you? But bigger size is where it's at. Why are so many people doing dual or tri monitors otherwise?

My only issue with this one is the matte screen, and I don't quite have room on my desk with my other two 27" monitors (I could make it work though).

How about 24" 4K monitors - any news about those? 4K at 31.5" is still 'only' 140ppi, which is not that much better then the current 27" iMac. I would like to run one of those monitors in a retina mode, but a 31.5" running an equivalent of 1920x1080 doesn't sound so good.

Agree completely.

Love the look of the 21:9. So LG, if you're listening, how about a 21:9 (5040x2160) with a ppi of around 100 for under $3K. Not sure what size that would be, pretty large I'm sure. Rather have one of these than 3-30".

Mine too ,though I'm glad it has one :D. I've put off buying a new monitor as all the Apple offerings are hi-gloss. No good to me. I don't want superbright colours, I want accurate colour... and as I sit with a window behind me I don't want glare or reflections.

I need to see a few more reviews about colour accuracy and profiling but form-wise it's good for me.

Matte fan myself.

The irony is that I ended up getting 2 27"  TB displays for the sides, and looking at getting either a 4k or this LG model for the center piece. My nMP arrived yesterday yet I have no chance to set it up because my existing table is toooo small. Gonna ghetto a temporary solution this weekends.

You know, maybe Apple will release a 34" Ultra Widescreen 21:9 4k Cinema. That would be ideal, and makes sense in that it would be a more cinematic monitor, support larger workflows, and better overall since OS X doesn't support Eyefinity style monitor combining.

Are there any 34" 21:9 4k panels out there?

As the test with the iMac 680MX showed, the display should work at full resolution and refresh rate using DP1.1, I just ordered myself one of these displays.

I will post results when it arrives.

has anyone else sampled or received their monitor? Would love to see some more feedback. Pretty sure that I am going to pick this up, but would love to see some more first person perspectives.

We don't have a use for Windows OS, so cannot answer that question.

Here's the System Profiler's report for the Graphics/Displays for your enjoyment. :)

Wow, OSX thinks it's a television! It must send ycbcr color signal to your screen and no RGB. This means that you monitor can produce better colors if OS X would send him a signal with the full RGB spectrum.

Seriously Apple, FIX THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow awesome. I placed an order with them today. Hope I am as lucky but I would bet there is a long line in front of me!

BH sent me tracking information today though they're still showing pre-order for 5/21 on their page. The monitor should arrive early next week.

Let me know if there are any questions or anything I can address once I get this monitor!

How is the fit and finish? It seems a little 'plasticly' and flimsy in some of the videos.

work with 2012 macbook retina 13?

Hi,
Does anyone know yet if this will work with a 2012 13inch MB Retina? My question is can the Intel 4000HD graphics drive the display (I know that DP 1.1 can due to the early poster's help). I'm curious. It may not be enabled in the drivers even if it has the power to do so. Can't wait to buy the monitor.
Thanks.

Wahoo! I've been following this thread and I was bummed that this monitor wasn't readily available. I just received my nMP on Thursday and really wanted this monitor. I was on the LG Site last night and I clicked on " Where to buy" and it was Available RIGHT AWAY at Fry's in California.

I just picked it up. I can't wait to set it up.
