Yes, I also tried connecting via the "USB in" to the nMP. That did not work either. The LG Documentation says that this connection was for PC's (not Mac).

On Amazon Germany there is a new video review.
The guy connected it to a late 2013 rmbp without any issues and full resolution. Everything seems to work as it should. He briefly shows as well how he connected it (at around 1'30) through the thunderbolt port and you can see that he is not using the USB 3 uplink but has three devices connected to the USB ports...

for some reason this link seems to redirect to Amazon.fr. If this is the case just look for the LG 34UM95 on Amazon.de

On a side-note I ordered the monitor the 24th of march through Amazon (still waiting...) and am not waiting anymore for Apple to release a new display. I have a nMP and this widescreen display with that resolution is exactly what I need (I am a video editor). I doubt that Apple will release a widescreen display and I am kind of tired of the heavy glare after years of use of a Apple Cinema Display 27" and rMBP's. The LG seems to be way less glossy, but not fully matte either.

Now for my problems. I cannot get the USB Ports to work on the back of the Monitor. I've called AppleCare and LG Support and nobody seems to be able to help. I noticed earlier in this thread that "bxs" was able to get his ports working. I have not had any luck with this.
Are you using a DisplayPort cable or Thunderbolt?

There's a thread over on Ars, this guy says it even works as a KVM using TB on the Mac and USB on his PC (and a driver or else the PC freaks out or something when switching).

The display works, yay!

(I'm cross-posting this from another thread)

I finally got my display. I can confirm that it works with the Mid 2012 rMBP using Thunderbolt with full resolution and 60Hz. The integrated USB hub works over TB, too, as does the integrated sound card. Now I only have two wires to attach, Thunderbolt and power. YAY!

There was a minor hiccup though. OSX identifies this display as a television, and thus gives crappy color signal out. At least some gradients looked really poor. Some quick googling got me this handy bit of information on how to enable RGB mode and using it I got the colors to display as they should.

Oh man this monitor is WIDE. You have to see it for yourself to believe it. I'll post some pictures soon.

Awesome. This is exactly what I was hoping for. Post pics!:)

Hacking around the system again, like trim on 3rd party ssds ... is this a general issue everybody is having with this display? Does it only happen over TB?

As Apple is as well focussing on display compatibility (especially 4K) for the next 10.9.3 release, this might be fixed in the next update.

I don't think it quite qualifies as hacking, since this is just using a display override feature already built into the OS. It's just that there's no user friendly interface to do this forcing.

I can't really say if this only happens on Thunderbolt, but at least according to other screenshots I've seen on this thread, it also happens on DisplayPort. You can check this just by going to System Information, choosing Graphics/Displays, and there you should have your display listed. If there's a row saying Television: Yes, then OSX is not detecting it correctly.

Hi tstm,

Your USB Ports are working when you connect your rMBP to the LG via Thunderbolt? Wow, I have mine connected to the nMP with Thunderbolt and I am able to get sound and video from the LG, but no USB's. The screen is beautiful, but no USB.

I'm still searching for the solution.

Did you get feedback from bxs? For him it seems to work without problems on a nMP. I hope you do not have a defective unit.

Yes, it's working just like that.

Are you using a Thunderbolt cable? An mDP cable won't do - DisplayPort will only transfer audio and video.

Will a late 2012 Mac Mini support 3440x1440 Resolution? Thinking of getting the 34UM95

Very Interesting!

I have two Thunderbolt Cables:
1. 2 Meter Cable that I purchased from Apple
2. 1 Meter Cable that was included with the Pegasus2 R4 Diskless

The nMP is on my desk right next to the LG Monitor. The Pegasus is on the floor below my desk. I needed a longer cable to connect the Pegasus so I used the Apple TB Cable. I used the Pegasus Cable to connect to the LG.

I just switched the cables, so now I'm using the 2m Apple cable with the LG. Now the USB Ports all work!!

So....What's going on here? Are not all Thunderbolt Cables Created Equal?

Thanks for everyones input with this troubleshooting. I guess I need to go buy another TB Cable from Apple..

Regards,
Gary

FYI and PS, a little trick I've been using for years. I've been shopping overseas for several years for bicycling components and framesets and parts for one of the Benzes I own that aren't readily available in N.A. When redirected by Amazon (or eBay) from their EU-based domain, in the URL bar I manually edit ".com" for ".co.uk" or ".co.au" - and I get the UK or Aussie website, with the same item in Pounds Sterling or AU$. No English "translation" necessary!

Both sites in the UK will generally offer a "shipping price" to the US/Canada and often have VAT-deducted item and relevant shipping costs as an option. There's stuff I buy from the UK for my bikes that are cheaper than the wholesale cost of the local shops or (like the OP's situation) it's just not available in N.A.

For electronics, however, there's two big concerns to keep in mind - many (but not all) of those products are set up for 50Hz-phase AC power, not the 60Hz-phase AC power because there's no built-in converter, and there's sometimes no US/Canadian-based warranty options. Just sayin'.

Got my display today. With my Mid 2103 MacBook Air (13 inch) I get a weird flickering on the lower portion of the display. I'm connected via Thunderbolt and the flickering happens at 3440x1440 when the MacBook Air is open and using dual screen. If I put the Air in clamshell mode, no flickering. To use the Air open in dual screen mode, I have to lower the resolution to 2560x1080.

With my Early 2011 MacBook Pro (15 inch), I have no issues running the display at 3440x1440 via Thunderbolt.

Glad to know that it works now. Thanks for the info: I have the same configuration with the Promise2 R4. I am planning to connect the LG display on a 3m TB Cable (not from Apple) and am now curious if I will have the same issue.. Monitor still not shipped yet...

Does the thunderbolt cable is included in the box?

I really like the thunderbolt option. That way I have two plugs from my laptop to my monitor and my network. Power and thunderbolt right next to each other.

LG is releasing a nMP Monitor soon

Just picked mine up from Frys in LA as I was on my way to SD for Mothers Day. The Frys in LA got three in and they are all gone.

I got to my in Laws and have it set up on their dining room table. It really is huge but the real estate is amazing. Pretty easy setup with the TB cable.
