Many like the design, as it works with any colour of Mac (silver, grey, or any other that may come in future). It's also significantly lighter in weight due to being made of plastic (my metal-framed ACD weighs a ton) so can be moved around without breaking your arm. And importantly it can be very easily VESA mounted (any following Apple's current design, would have been difficult or impossible to do that easily).

As said before, it's design is what used to termed in design circles as "monolithic": strong, sturdy, simple, non-fussy or flowery.

people keep talking about the ugly design and the forehead, but I sold my TBD which had much thicker bezels ALL AROUND and weighed about 30lb!

I have a 4K right now and its design is just mediocre.

The bezels don't bother me much, its more the fact that there is a small horizontal gap between the bezels and the display which makes it look like a monitor from the 1990s. When it is on it looks amazing and I am sure the 5K will look even better.

It a very inoffensive design - that is about all I can say.

Do you think I'll be able to connect the monitor also to my desktop with an adapter from thunderbolt 3 to hdmi or display port?

For those who are wondering why it's not available in Switzerland, it's apparently due to LG forgetting to include a Swiss power cable. They need to update the packaging first to make it available again. The 4K isn't available at the moment for the very same reason.

Thank you! I hope they will have sorted that out before March 31 :) I wish they'd just sell it here, though anyway. I can get a cable like that for 15 Fr. online.

Exactly - and I probably have 10 or 20 of those cables laying around somewhere. This is just absurd.

Thank you for sharing this article! I hope that they can be available again before 2017.

BTW, I think people have at least one EU to CH adapter in Switzerland. It's really not a big issue.

Thanks for the info. This is screwing with Swiss customers big time!
I was refreshing the page every 5min for the last 2-3 weeks and was ready to order before the news got out. Easy 3-5 days shipping time. Now we're screwed! Because of a simple cable that everyone can buy for 10.-? Unacceptable!
This is no reason to delay the displays. A company like digitec would have even added a free Swiss cable in addition.

Hopefully we at least get a Swiss version that has its own shipping estimates and does not have to wait in line behind the rest of the world (4-6 weeks). But I'm afraid that it might take a while until the Swiss version is sorted out and avilable. Lots of logistics involved.

Dual 5K support is the main reason I ordered a new MBP and because of a cable we have to wait longer? This is killing me!

amen. I'd like to replace my iMac with the MBP + 5k monitor - now I have to hold on to it. If they release the next gen before I can sell it, it'll cost me dearly.

This is similar for me. I bought the MBP to replace my iMac, and I need a 5K to go along with it. As my 2011 iMac is now dead, I really need something to continue working ASAP. Hanging on a laptop screen for months is far from ideal.

There must be some alternatives, though - ASUS MX27UQ , Dell P2415Q etc - they don't offer USB-C Hubs etc., but they also cost a lot less and (arguabyl) also look a lot better than the LGs

I decided to hold off on my order until I can see one in person or see some more reviews as more people receive them. No rush since discount is extended to march 31st

Also found this one: LG 27UD88-W - that one does in deed include USB-C and can charge the Macbook Pro over one cable. Slightly lower res, but I doubt one really notices that at 27".

thats not the point. non are TB3 and charge 85w. but if these 2 don't matter, then plenty of alternatives. I have the 27UD88 and love it and plan on using it side by side with the 5k.
