Hadn't even thought of that! Swell idea, thank you.

Yeah, sometimes they wake with max brightness or min brightness too. LG are just trolling us...Anybody noticing that their display(s) sometimes forget what brightness they were set to when waking from an extended period of sleep? Mine often seem to return to about five notches from maximum brightness after sleeping at exactly half brightness.
Haha! I like the idea that LG are poking fun at us (not).Yeah, sometimes they wake with max brightness or min brightness too. LG are just trolling us...![]()
Might be worth double checking that no notifications are set to appear on the lock screen.
- Random wake ups from sleep. This seems to be related to Power Nap. For some reason the monitor feels like it has to wake up sometimes. It doesn't seem to be 100% because sometimes I'll hear the attached USB drive start a TM backup and not wake up the monitor.
In fairness, I can't find other 5K displays on the market that are comparable. They're usually at least as expensive, and lack most of the features that the LG has.
- The current price is completely unjustified, glad I got it at the discounted price.
I forgot to add that at first I thought it might be notifications, but I've confirmed since then than it's not. Still running some tests to see if I can find the culprit. It seems "wake up from WiFi access" could be it although it's too early to tell.Might be worth double checking that no notifications are set to appear on the lock screen.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the LG display essentially contains a Thunderbolt 3 dock with 85W of power delivery*. Other companies still aren't shipping devices with such capability, four months later, and when they do they will be in the £250 region (and that will get you just a half-metre cable - add on another £50 for a full-length one!) - something included in the LG's price tag.
*In that it is turning Thunderbolt 3 into 5K video and a host of USB devices.

What exactly was the nature of the problem you were previously seeing?I almost considered not writing this, as I don't want to jinx my luck, but I got a new monitor yesterday and the USB-hub power issue seems to have been resolved.
I've been without a monitor since 10.12.5 Public Beta 3, so it might be something that has been resolved in the last two betas or it could be the new monitor.
What exactly was the nature of the problem you were previously seeing?
When I connected my powered on MBP to my monitor the USB-ports seemingly didn't get any power and didn't work. The way to resolve this was to either unplug and replug the USB-cable to the monitor-hub or restart the computer.
I connected and disconnected my computer a lot last night without being able to reproduce the issue, and now I've had it disconnected from my computer for about 12 hours and everything worked perfectly fine when reconnected to the monitor. With my previous monitor it was very easily reproducible.
Thanks for clarifying, and am I correct in saying you are now on public Beta 5 having previously been on Beta 3 when you last experienced the problem?
If you get a moment, can you try again but firstly with the USB-C connector that is closest to the Thunderbolt 3 socket, and secondly with the USB-C connector furthest away from the Thunderbolt 3 socket, and see if you get different results?Well, sadly despite running Beta 5, my G-Drive 2TB does not reliably reconnect to my MBP if I disconnect and reconnect my TB3 connection between MBP and LG 5K display while the hard drive remains connected to the display.
Kinda bizarrely, if I have the drive connected and I disconnect the TB3 cable between MBP and 5K, the hard drive spins down and then spins back up even though the TB3 cable is still disconnected. So clearly it is still drawing power from the 5K. Then when I reconnect the TB3 cable to the MBP, the hard drive again spins down and spins back up again and you can hear it seeking but the drive does not mount. The only way to reliably get it to mount is to disconnect the cable between hard drive and 5K and reconnect it.
So, maybe the monitor you just got back from LG has either got a different firmware on it or there are hardware differences.

Thanks for checking, would have been great if it was beta 5.
When I got home from work last night and connected my MBP to the display it didn't work at first and I thought I was back to start, but after unplugging and replugging the thunderbolt cable it started working again. This was never a solution with my previous monitor. I've connected the computer a few times today as well without any issues.
I'm starting to get fairly confident that something must be different with this monitor from the other one.
My monitor is running software version: 3.01,1.11,5234,3.00,0.1d
Interesting - I have similar things occurring on my two monitors but only on the USB-C port that is closest to the Thunderbolt 3 cable on both of them. The rest are fine.I already tried that actually and it didn't make any difference to the outcome.
Where did you get that software version from?
Do you mean it was on the label on the back of the monitor or on the box or something? It came with the display. Do yours have another one?
It's shown in the LG Screen Manager crapware. Also possible to update it - if you have an update file to provide, which we don't.Do you mean it was on the label on the back of the monitor or on the box or something?
I never installed that previously but just did and my version is exactly the same as @Kristians above. It's shown in the LG Screen Manager crapware. Also possible to update it - if you have an update file to provide, which we don't.![]()
