Well, I caved in and ordered another LG 5K! I was going to do the iMac thing but can't stand the thought of having an all in one again ... wish me luck!! : /

I thought Dell made a 5K display, but the best I could find on their site was this 32" 4K. It uses Display Port and Mini Display Port and only supports a resolution of 3840 x 2160. That's just not high enough for my taste on a 32" screen.

I found this Dell 5k display on Amazon, but the fact that it doesn't show up on Dell's site makes me think they discontinued it... which means support headaches.

That being said, I've owned a Dell Ultrasharp display in the past (30") and it was a wonderful piece of equipment.

I think it required dual display ports | 5120 x 2880 at 60 Hz (Dual DP cable required)

YIKES .. I'll take the single USB C :)
[doublepost=1501296105][/doublepost]Dell LCDs offer some of the best warranty and reliable monitors around ... I personally use Apple & Dell .. (Dell Latitudes, Optiplex, Precision, UltraSharps), very impressive business warranties. Now Dell home support is another story!! And Apple support is amazing.

Has anyone else had an issue with actually getting the monitor firmware updated? I successfully updated the LG Screen Manager software, and it prompts me to update the monitor firmware. The monitor update just hangs at 0% complete forever though. I've tried reinstalling, restarting, everything in between, and nothing has made a difference.

I had a bit of weirdness with an error message at the end of the update when I had other peripherals plugged in. Have you tried unplugging absolutely everything (from the Mac and the USB ports on the display) except for the TB3 cable for the display?

Yep, tried everything above both with my normal peripherals plugged in and without anything plugged in or any other apps running. I chatted with LG support last week and they asked for some screenshots and info and they are supposed to get back to me with any info in a few days.

Contrary to what I thought, neither the monitor randomly waking up (probably not the fault of the monitor) and the brightness setting resetting itself to 100% issues have been resolved. I get the feeling that the brightness setting might reset itself to 100% after a reboot.

Say what? I have a 32" Eizo 4k running at 3840 x 2160, and initially everything was so small I could hardly make out text without a magnifying glass. You must have x-ray vision. I was able to adjust my programs with Preferences values to increase the text size, but some elements still remain very small. I do love this panel, though. I think 36" or so will be the sweet spot for 4k, when they become more available. 32" can be made workable @4k.

Considering my 15" laptop has a resolution that is more than half that... and my 27" iMac has substantially higher, I just can't justify it. I have no problem seeing anything... including Adobe InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop's infamous "tiny" interface.

Anybody out there have the shielding put in to their UltraFine 5K monitor? I got mine back from an LG repair facility and they said that two gaskets were replaced. Is that for shielding?

I sent my monitor for service because of a serious image retention problem on May, 22. Today a LG representative said that they would get a "detail" to fix my monitor in August. I will never buy anything from LG again.
Received my monitor 3 weeks ago after multiple calls to LG, asking them to hurry up.
It's been working great for these past weeks (I no longer have the image retention problem). Yesterday updated to the new firmware, but haven't noticed any difference and I'm not sure if they fixed the wake up problem (it happened only once a week ago).

I think that the port connectivity issue was resolved by LG on 7-13-2017 with a software update. Just install LG Screen Manager and proceed to update the monitor. Link HERE.

My maxed out MacBook Pro TB feels super laggy/slow. I just noticed that is only when docked in clamshell mode to the 5k LG monitor. It is as if there is a very slight latency in my mouse movement and the on screen update that honestly is driving me nuts.

Anyone else having issues? Is this just too many pixels?

Honestly considering either a) nuke and pave machine to rule out any odd software glitches (I tinker too much) or b) selling this and downgrading something that is not going to have lag.

Do you have Night Shift turned on?

Are you running at 3840 x 2160, or pixel doubled 1080p? Is your 27" iMac a 5K? Then it is probably running pixel doubled at 2560 x 1440.

I run my 13" MBP at its maximum resolution, (scaled), which is 1580 x 1050, and this is about the same size elements as my 32" running at 3840 x 2160 (true 4K).

The ONLY advantage to Retina (for me personally) is the increased pixel real estate—so yeah, I run at the highest scaled setting. I don't care about pixel doubling, scaling, true resolution, perceived sharpness, blah, blah and blah.

I have a 5k iMac and a pre-retina (2013) iMac and the only difference I really notice is the fact that I can get twice the resolution on the 5k allowing me to see more in the UI. Well that, and the text is so much sharper... but that's secondary for me.

You must have Superman X-Ray vision, then. I find 4K on a 32" monitor to be difficult until I start making changes to program preferences. Native apps that I cannot change still require me to lean forward and use the reading portion of my bifocals. :) In all, I love the 4K on a 32" panel. The extra real estate is a big benefit. I cannot wait until the 36" models start becoming affordable.

Ran in to an interesting bug today. Presently I have an UltraFine 5K connected to a 2017 iMac. I was trying to make a screen recording of some content that I had displaying on the LG. I noticed that Quicktime had horrendous lag in the output, but when recording content on the iMac's built-in display, there was no stutter.

It's just occurred to me that this is probably because of how the UltraFine's image is two streams stitched together, and the system is having a hard time taking a screen recording of basically two screens and combining them on the fly. I wonder if Apple even considered this. I'm surprised the system didn't just crash, in hindsight: you can't record from two screens at once in any other setup. This is a real edge case!

I just returned my LG 5K to the Apple Store after three days of use... Backlight suddenly went out while using it. They offered to exchange, I told them no thanks... I'll wait for version 2. I'd love to see a 5K Ultrawide in the 40" range...

Anybody see lines of stuck pixels? I have two vertical lines of pixels stuck that suddenly appeared in the last few days. Currently waiting to chat with LG, but wondering if anyone had experience with the outcome.

This monitor is plagued with all kinds of issues... They should've never released it. If you do keep it and try to sell it in the future, no one will buy it from you... Reviews are horrible on it. Sad, because I really wanted mine to work.

So I am planning on buying a pc for VR purposes. I want to be able to connect the pc to this fine monitor. I dont care too much if i get 5k, i can satisfy with 4k or 2560 res.

Most new pc graphics cards seems to have hdmi or DisplayPort 1.4. How on earth will I be able to plug it in the LG monitor. Will adapters work? Have anyone here tried?

You need to buy a motherboard with a Thunderbolt 3 expansion card. Even then the experience would not be optimal since the display has no hardware buttons and is controlled by (Mac) software.

Ok, so it wont work with an adapter (HDMI to Thunderbolt 3 or DisplayPort to Thunderbolt 3), of course the 5k wont work but maybe i can run the display at 4k or 2560?

Those kind of adapters don’t exist (yet).

Even if someone made then they would be quite pricey since they have to be active converters and not just a passive cable converter.
