I get that Vision Pro has its fans, but even one million units sold is a drop in the bucket compared to the smartphone market.

That’s why I question when I hear people say it will replace the iPhone. Not anytime soon, if ever, imo.
As is, 100% not. And personally I don’t think anything ever will or should replace the smartphone. Yes, I said ever. But, it provides Apple with important knowhow when expanding into other versions of “stuff you put on your face”. Apple always plays the long game.

I feel like they should drop these naming schemes til they get a solid product they know how to market. like all the pro users are gonna be Mad if an air come out and its better
Relax - this is Kuo calling it Air, not Apple.

I think an argument can be made that a lot of people should replace their smartphones with old school, dumb, flip phones. Maybe then they'll look up and talk to people. 🙃

Will it have temporal dithering and PWM?
All VR headsets must have a narrow pulse width to counteract motion blur. You'd need at least a 500Hz refresh rate—preferably 1000Hz—to have an acceptable amount of motion blur without pulsing the display.

But I think PWM is actually less distracting when everything in your FOV is being pulsed, and not just a small rectangle out of your full FOV.

I think the issue is even at $50 it won’t sell well.

Because nobody wants to strap a pair of goggles to their face to compute.

I say this as an owner of the vision pro.

Meta sold MILLIONS of Quest units. So i guess there are plenty of people willing to strap goggles to their face.

This is stange. Usually you have the Pro models which leapfrog in design and thinness while the air is older design.

How come they will release an air version that is far lighter than the previous pro?

Something is not right. The Pro line should innovate in thinness, lightness and power! Not the Air!
Nah, the Pro models leapfrog in tech. Like the iPhone Pro, Mac Pro, iPa etc. Then the Airs might use slightly older tech but innovate thinness.

I’ve always thought pricing should be competitive with their monitors, we’re getting there!

Great, but that's still the Vision PRO, not an Air. A POUND on your face is still not comfortable. Honestly this whole device is flawed. VR will always be niche. Smart glasses will be more mainstream.
I think power, opacity and immersion are the main reasons people would prefer a headset style device over glasses for many purposes. What you’re saying to me sounds like “iPhone is better than Mac because it can fit in your pocket.” Different use cases. There is a point where Vision Pro can be light enough to be valuable for certain use cases.

I’d compare it to the original Macintosh, or the first MacBook Air. Very expensive and limited in practicality, but with lots of potential long term.

Because you’re the arbiter of what most people want? I have zero interest in what the product does, so we are now at 1-1. Let’s ask the other 8 billion too.
Breathe. If the Vision Pro isn't for you, that's fine. I like it, I know many others that like it and I know plenty that would buy it at a lower cost. Don't discount that want a product because you don't. Furthermore I stand by my earlier statement that price is the reason most people (key word "most") shy away from it now. Have a wonderful day.

At $1750 they could have the cellular carriers offer them on monthly payments to help sell more units. Americans love monthly payments as long as the upfront price is low.

“Kuo also says the Vision Air will be OVER 50 percent cheaper,” so it could start around 1499-1599. Still a lot, but it’s an improvement at least.

2nd gen will be made out of plastic, even lighter and they will increase the price to triple profit.

I don't know when I'll get a device capable of playing them back, but I've made a practice of taking Spatial Videos of my family and various other things from time to time. I am thinking that somewhere down the road I'll own a device that can show them in 3D and I'll be glad I took them.

If these rumors played out and I could buy a Vision "Air" or whatever for the price of a good laptop, I would be tempted for sure.

The Air branding was originally meant to be a thinner, lighter version of an existing product. When the MacBook Air was released it was much thinner than any of the Pros and remained so, the MBPs were beefier and more powerful. When Apple first shrank the iPad's bezels and thickness they called it the iPad Air instead of iPad 5. Apple's upcoming super-thin iPhone will be called the Air.

Apple's current usage of the Air branding in their iPad range to denote the midrange model is a bit of an exception.

I just think, after having owned one for a year and selling it, I never really want to be in Virtual Reality for too long. Maybe to consume some content or experience some interactive thing (though it sucks that you can only do it alone), but I don't want my eyes covered and to experience the "real world" through pass-through video. I don't think that model will ever work unless we all become cyborgs.
