Easy for you to say when your jailbreak is less than 2 days out and mine probably won't come until mid-November (provided Limera1n didn't exist and 3GS users had to wait for comex and 4.2).

We can either have it all now and be lost again next year, or we can have it all in a month or so and be virtually ensured to have an exploit for all iproducts through the next generation. I know it's easy to say for me, but I think the better choice for the community isn't instant gratification.

Geohot's such an egotist the dev team should publically ignore him and only discuss it amongst themselves. He gets little of their attention and without them saying anything they give him the middle finger.

I personally have to say that geohot is being a total attention whore and his Slimera1n exploit/JB being used up at the same time as Greenpois0n is generating drama, however, whichever exploit the does get saved for next year's iPhone 5 or whatever may not work at all. I don't know if any of the devteams took into consideration that forthcoming iPhone models are dropping the Infineon chipset in favor of Qualcomm's. I'm totally sure the baseband will be different if Apple uses the Qualcomm chipset, since eventually they'll want to support LTE and incorporate CDMA compatibility for all the Verizon iWannaiphonetoo crybabies. This would pretty much make much of the current crop of exploits less than useful for the next batch.

*added: Oh and whose not to say Apple won't implement some kind of rootkit/chip, like those found in the latest batch of HTC and Motorola 'droid units that will overwrite/disable the phone, if the phone detects an unauthorized OS image.

it would be better if geohot's jailbreak was released now, and shatter after 4.2, because from what i've been reading, several people mentioned that geohot believes that apple already has a fix lined up for his jailbreak.

It seems to me that CDT would have been fine waiting to release for 4.2 or wait even longer if Geohot didn't announce this after CDT announced a release date for their work.

LOL! I thought this was an old thread but NO, it's BRAND NEW! Same old ***** tho. Too bad, you'd think at least a couple of 'em would have grown up by now.

They are both bootrom exploits, so 4.2 is in the bag until there is a hardware update.

Yeah, but the guy has the goods. If you bring out a bootrom exploit that will work on all devices then you deserve kudos.

This guys such a dick. Why does he show up at the very last minute and release a tethered jb? As chpwn said, now 2 bootrom exploits will be exposed within the space of a week.
I can't stand egohot.

I doubt this, Limera1n Jailbreak ALL DEVICES?
We should have to wait some time I think, do the jailbreaking on device to check it ;)

yeah but if it's a buggy piece of crap that was intentionally rushed just to squeeze out every drop of attention you could get, what good does it do anyone except him?

People need to realize that when they say they want to save one of the exploits for future devices, they don't mean the iPhone 5, they are talking about a revised iPhone 4 where they change the hardware to eliminate the exploit.

Also as someone else stated, GeoHot believes that apple is already aware of his exploit so it makes more sense to say shatter. That's why Chronic Dev Team is so pissed, because by putting his release 1 day after theirs, he is pretty much forcing them to either burn shatter, or delay to use GeoHot's exploit in which time most people would probably already have used LimeRa1n.

Someone is trying to steal the spotlight last minute.
What a diva:D lol

There's mr. non team player for you. The Madonna of jailbreaking. Talented, smart guy, but sure needs attention. His programs always seem to have some bug in them as well because he rushes to release. I'm surprised he's releasing this without forcing us to "trend" it for him on twitter.

Yeah for real, like the time he tried to coerce people into helping him track some stupid weather balloons or something for some contest in order for him to release some exploit he found. :)

Ah the genius mind

I've always defended Geohot, but if he's burning a second bootrom exploit that's still unknown to Apple just for attention, then he's crossing a line. Although I'm sorry that new-bootrom 3GS owners may have to wait a while for a 4.1 jailbreak, their inconvenience has to be weighed against the good of the entire community. There is really no way to construe wasting an exploit that could possibly jailbreak the iPhone 5 just to allow 3GS users to do a point upgrade as being in the best interest of the jailbreak community.

Well, remember the exact same scenario played out with purplerain. He burned an exploit there as well, although maybe not as big as this one. That is just what he does. He does not have the best interest of the community at heart. He just has his interest at heart. :p

I really wish geohot would save this for 4.2

He should save this for 5.0. It's the same program as greenpoison with a different bootrom (very difficult to find) exploit. The greenpoison exploit will already work on 4.2 as well as any future updates to current hardware, so long as there isn't a hardware refresh ala the new bottom 3GS.

From what I have gathered, the exploit could be saved for the iPhone 5 just as easily for the hypothetical new bootrom iPhone 4. Reading some od the involved twitter accounts shows they are referring to next gen hardware when they say save it. And that SHATter is believed to be known at apple an more likely to be fixed, hence the term "burn"
