However I did pick the most recent article which was from today. Throw out the March 1st article if you don't want to read it. Give me an article written in the last 24hrs backing your position.

Except that the article you picked had zero to do with in-store sales. It was off point. Anyway, this argument is going no where. I think the basic premise is that you believe there will be a shortage today, and I do not. We'll know tomorrow who was right and who was wrong.

I was going to order online this morning (I couldn't sleep, unrelated to the ipad, lol) - bt my 66 yo mother is adamant about getting an ipad today - which means despite my no waiting in line policy - I'm going to wait in line.

I hope people don't have an issue with her joining me later, given I'll be telling those I can, and she just had a hip replacement.

Anyway, the only issue is it's getting too HOT to wait here, I think it will be 87 today.. bah

Not to rain on your plans but I think people may definitely have an issue with someone joining your in line later. I mean people behind you could be out of luck because the person joining you could buy the exact model they wanted and they've been waiting in line for hours. Personally, I would have a problem with it.

I'll take a cardboard cutout. The point is.. if someone is up front there is a second person - who will make it there before they go on sale, I just think it's a bit sill to get upset at that.

Still I guess I'll take her a folding chair. Then people can suck it as we're not going to move it 2 inches every 5 minutes... we'll advance when there's reasonable space to make it worthwhile.

Actually, once the tickets are handed out.. meh

In store sales or total sales who cares. There could very well be greater demand than supply.

These lines are nothing compared to iPhone lines. Wait till this summer...

Time is money. If I spent 5 hours waiting in line, my Ipad would cost me way too much. It's amazing how so many people have nothing at all to do but spend a day waiting in line for a $500 item.

Not everyone is paid by the hour and unable to take time off.

yup and plenty of people (particularly in the tech sector) get to work whenever they feel like it within reason.

Doesn't matter if I consult in a morning or afternoon.. or work 2am to 10.. or whatever.

anyway, plenty of people are flexible with both time and wage.

Omaha Nebraska Apple store has about 20 in line now, 3 hours before sell time. They also say they think they'll "be fine", as in not sell out.

My buddy works at that store. They have all hands working today. He will probably be happy that the line is small.

Have you heard anything about lines at any of the Best Buy locations. I'm heading out in a few to the Shadowlake Best Buy because I have to pick up my daughter for a Skating Party that starts around 5:30.

I'm in Lincoln. 8 people at the Best Buy here. I'm guessing they'll be fine. They had plenty of stock for the 1st iPad, and only ran out of the 16gb model long after the initial rush.

Less than 10 people each in two best buy locations in MD, rockville and laurel

Well, you know, people can buy 2.

My wife will be in line and she's gonna buy 2. I'll get there an hour after her and I'm gonna go stand with her. Me keeping my wife company does nothing to you. We're gonna buy the same 2 no matter if I'm there or not.

So perhaps you shouldn't get mad at every person you see joining the line. They don't all mean additional sales.

I'm amazed at the short line in NE.

Here in Indy I got to the mall at 2:30 and an Apple employee said he thought I was about #300. At 5 there must have been at least 1500 people in line. Must be because we have 1 Apple store in the state.

Still, if you are familiar with the Keystone store, the line went from in front of the store to the outside door behind it and back 3 times. Then started in front of Crate and Barrel and went to Nordstroms and back. Then started in front of the Apple store again and went all the way back around the corner to past Johnston and Murphy's.

Amazing.

People are saying how there are 200-300 people in line, but at The Gateway, in SLC, Utah there were probably close to 1,000 people. The line was massive. Even 1 hour after launch, the line was moving steadily...but more people were lining up.

Hate to say I told you so. My prediction was right. Luckily I went to the Apple store today around 12:30, waited in line and now have my brand new iPad 2. I also made some friends in line, had a blast watching line cutters get ejected by mall security, and then get to watch all the mayhem inside the Apple store once they let us in! It was an experience I won't soon forget. :)

I couldn't believe how many people there were in line when I got there at 2:15. There were over 200 people already in line and there were well over 500 people in line by 5 PM with more still lining up.

my question is did anyone over the 200 mark realistically expect to get one today? i mean from all accounts the most any stores got on average were 180.. so theoretically by that estimate most everyone was screwed... anyone lining up past 500 should be checked for mental retardation if they think 1 retail location has 500 in stock lol
