Why? They make the screens so when Apple makes revenue Samsung makes revenue.

Samsung Display Co. is a completely different legal entity from Samsung that sells phones. They only likely roll up (financially) at the holding company level. As far as the holding company goes it would make sense that they are fine selling display to Apple at wholesale but have a higher margin selling the same displays as retail in their own devices.

. A big chunk of the people in Apple Stores are in queue waiting for repairs.... which is something that Apple does well... having a place like that to get service.

Also hands on area, training, business level support, and general browsing.

Honestly wished Google had stores like that in my Area.
Proof that some people are stark raving mad. Line up for a phone? Dumb as bricks. Get a real life fan people.

People often wait in lines for things they enjoy. If it is for concert tickets, special sales, contests, and even new Resturants, it is something people enjoy.

Should things you ejoy, that others don’t understand be taken away from you?

For some, it is. I personally can wait. I see it just as another piece of tech that I will eventually have at my front door. But there are some who are truly passionate iPhone users that are possessive to have this device immediately once it becomes available.
Further proof that this country has real mental health issues. How is it that a phone becomes so important to people that they wait days in a line to buy one?
And then there are also those Who don't care about the iPhone itself and want the new iPhone on day one strictly to sell it for a profit.

Which highlights another point in the discission about mental health. Why would anyone pay a huge markup to a third party just to have a new phone.

I’ll never be so desperate for a phone/computer that I’ll wait in line. It’s just not that urgent of a desire for me. I’ll wait a few weeks and see what my co-worker thinks (he’s getting his tomorrow) and see it in store. Maybe buy next year or wait and see if they make a meaningful iPhone SE upgrade.

Fake news using fake pictures. Disappointing. There may well be queues, but some of these pictures are years old.
One of the pictures that was originally posted was found to be from an earlier launch and was quickly removed. Do you have any evidence that the remaining pictures are bogus?

Do you really think "Samsung Mobile" is an autonomous, not linked to, nothing to do with the great big bad Samsung? Perhaps you do and that's how you justify Samsung parts in iPhones because that's "Samsung Electronics" not heaven forbid the "Samsung group". I love the way fan-boys can compartmentalize the competition in their minds so not to affect their "believes".

I love how people have to resort to insults (calling people fanboys) instead of trying to argue a point.

Hate to break it to you, but divisions within big companies are run separately. And if one division loses money, what do you think happens? Do they suck up profits from divisions that make money because they’re all under the same umbrella? Or do they get trimmed down/sold off?

It is one thing to wait a half hour in line for concert tickets, it is an entirely different thing to wait DAYS in line for a phone. A phone is a mass produced device available for a year or more after a launch. On the other hand a concert is a unique event.
Should things you ejoy, that others don’t understand be taken away from you?

Not at all and frankly we as a nation are moving into a very dark period where people are trying hard to take away things we enjoy. However you cannot let the mentally ill run the asylum.

Sigh, looking forward to waiting in line.... haven't done so since the 5s I think it was. I'll be waiting at the Century City location! :) Excited because it's a store opening too~ Should be alot of fun.... anyone else going to be waiting?

That first picture, with the line before "Apple Store on West 14th Street in Manhattan" has five weird tent-things. They look too small to sleep in, yet there seem to be blankets in them. Can anyone explain what these are?

I’ll just wait until my order arrives sometime between 11/17-11/24. My company needs to test it before they let us access our corporate email on it, which hopefully will be done right around the time my phone arrives.
Your company’s IT people take only two weeks to approve a mobile device? I’m jealous. My employer should be just finishing up testing when the iPhone XI comes out.

They said end of November. Most of the time they accept it right away. The X is different because it has FaceID but not TouchID. I’m hoping the identical twin issue doesn’t cause them to disable FaceID.

In Manhattan those are referred to as "affordable housing".

Why? Order online and stay warm.
These people can't order online. They do not have credit cards. I suspect many of them do it for money (either keeping the place for someone or trying to make some extra by selling the phone on eBay).

Think harder... how about Beanie Babies, Wii, Playstation, or how about pretty much anything on Black Friday at Walmart, Best Buy, Target...

There are plenty of "rumors" sites... they don't just call them all rumors sites. And the fact that people are "hanging on every shred of information" I think is indicative of Apple's withholding choices, updates, etc.. which creates more hype. If you like iOS, you have one place to buy a phone, and they haven't released a new design since the 6... so guess what... the fans are hyped.

You really need to get to a different Microsoft Store. The one in our mall is quite active all the time and there are people spilling out in the mall area playing games. A big chunk of the people in Apple Stores are in queue waiting for repairs.... which is something that Apple does well... having a place like that to get service.

I was never interested in any of those things (Beanie Babies, really?) and don't shop at Walmart, Best Buy or Target. Big difference in that price strata as well.

Been to MS stores all over the country (company forces Surface 3's on us) and have never seen more than five customers inside. Always the employees outnumber the customers, with the former often found playing on the console thingy while one helps the lookie loos. The MS store is the only place to purchase an extra charger, since no other electronics retailers bother.

I guess that gamers are the closest comparison, with nitwits taking work days off to download new versions or titles. Then there is a delay and they go nuts. I don't waste time on gaming either, but do people people line up for such releases these days? Where?

What do you think if iPhones and ios services go away tomorrow? just gone.
Now what if the dog you like to beat "Samsumsung Mobile" also goes away tomorrow.
Which company do you think is the strongest and can still make money of those other thing you like to laugh at and pretend they're not related to a real company

5s was the last time I stood in line, since there was no preorder. Went to my local AT&T store, was out there for about an hour or so, met some nice people (including one person who turned out to be a neighbor that I'd not met yet... small world!)... we had a blast.

I did go stand inside Best Buy in a line to purchase a 6s for my husband a couple years ago, but really, that was just me walking in the store launch morning, asking if they had any, them saying they did, and me getting on the list so a rep could help me purchase it. Took about an hour, because they were slow, but really, I just browsed the store.

Wait in line haha damn there’s going to be a lot of fighting

I have never seen a fight in a line on launch day, now that you mention it.
