I had originally wanted the link bracelet, given that I currently wear a Pebble Steel. When I went to order on 4/10, the shipping estimates were into May and I wanted my watch on launch day. So I ordered the Milanese loop. I've had Skägen watches in the past with a Milanese strap, so I was familiar with the band and like the look of it.

Since the color/style is similar, I probably won't order a link bracelet after the watch ships, but instead opt for a sport band or maybe a leather loop.

I'd never heard of the "Milanese loop" before the Apple Watch, frankly. It looks lovely, however.

As a pilot I've only had heavy link bracelets because they actually keep the watch in place on your wrist because they literally clamp on. They don't sweat like leather or come unstitched.

Lastly, there is a also a heft to them that make them feel more rugged and solid.

I'm also not a wimp so the weight doesn't bother me at all.

had to order both

I ordered the milanese band with my SS watch at midnight last friday, but immediately wished I had ordered the link when i tried it on. My wife is a fashion writer and agrees that the link bracelet is a more masculine, classic choice. I broke down and ordered the link bracelet separately. $450 for a watch band is more than I have ever spent on a watch. Touche apple. *slow clap

Linked Bracelet vs. Milanese Loop

Link bracelet if your a man. Otherwise go for the Milanese, unless you don't mind looking like a punk from the 80's ;)

Thanks for the comparison. Based on those pictures...I think the link looks much better. The loop looks like an afterthought to me....like "Wait..I also have to use something to strap this thing to my wrist. Oh good...here's some metal looking velcro...". The link looks completely integrated with the watch, very smooth. Makes the whole thing look more like a watch.

Well said. I'm very ocd when it comes to symmetry and I can't get over how the Milanese doubles over on itself on one side. I cancelled my 4/24 42mm SS Milanese pre-order in part due to the fact that I couldn't stop looking at that "imbalance" in all the pictures that I saw. I also didn't like how due to the flexible nature of the mesh it tends to pull straight down on the sides as opposed to the natural curve of the link. I went ahead and ordered the 42mm SS link last night with the unfortunately ambiguous June shipping.

link. I actually hate myself for trying the link on b.c now I want it. $500 for a band after taxes is a hard pill to swallow. I go back and forth daily. I could get a damn iPad air 2 for that price. While I like the feel of the loop it looks feminine IMO...at least on me.

I will never ever buy the link band. It look so dumb. That Casio calculator watch posted earlier epitomizes that style of band, geeky and 80s. Other styles on "link bands" not for sale, like what's on the Rolex or Citizen are great and if Apple made something like that, then that would be worth the $450. But the only people I can see but the current link band, are the old people.

That being said, I really like th black SS, but it is only available with the black link band, which isn't as bad but still somewhat ugly. So I just have to decide, one day, space gray sport or SS silver.

Is this 38mm?

Relevant

My post in another thread on 38 vs 42 is probably relevant here too:

https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/21032112/

I'll post the relevant part:

To me it very much depends on the band used. I've a 170mm wrist (ish). Placing a credit card over the top show a tiny bit of wrist top and bottom as my forearm curves away, making my wrist the shape of an elliptic cylinder - so the protruding part i can see top and bottom of the card is not the flat of my wrist, but it's the sides pushing out toward the 'horizon point' of the wrist curve.

I tried on the 38mm and 42mm link bracelets.

Both looked good - but the 38mm looked a little small for my wrist. The 42mm fitted well though. The Link bracelet, given its construction, allowed 5-10mm of bracelet to still be visible top and bottom of the watch, as it curved downward and behind the wrist. As such, the watch face looks slightly smaller, and the wrist is visible to the left and right of the protruding visible parts of the bracelet.

I tried the milanese loop on the 42mm bracelet and I could not get the same effect - the band is a lot thinner and it effectively 'descends' sharply from the top and bottom of the watch at a steep angle - you don't get the curve of links disappearing over the 'horizon' of the top and bottom of the wrist. As such the watch face looks bigger, taller and a little too big for my wrist

The link band is too light for me. No way i'm dropping $450 on that.

I ordered a milanese band after trying it out in-store.

Not to fuel the fire, but I DO like the link on you much better. The Milanese Loop can look "dapper" on a guy but you have to dress around it, IMO. Link is more versatile. Remember, you'll be wearing this for a year, might as well go for what you really want.

My two pennies.

Thanks, and good points. I have never been a fan of link bands, but I think it looks damn good on the apple watch. It is much more gunmetal than the online render looks. It was all the apple employees fault! I was about to finish trying them on and he grabbed that link band before I could walk away. It shows how smart they are to let people try them on.

Link because I'm not a woman. Yea I think Malinase Loop is more feminine. There I said it.

I ordered the link and I am a woman. The Milanese Loop is more dressy, I think. I guess people can construe that as feminine. It's really how you wear it or the context to everything else you wear (since it is an accessory). I just thought the Loop would look ridiculous in sports clothing/working out, but it would look great when dressed up. The link is just more versatile for a man or woman.

You're so edgy! Look how you replaced the 's' with a '$'! Man nobody has ever done that before, I'm sure glad you contributed to this conversation with this helpful bit of information.

I'm sure you have a great education, and are well traveled!

Actually I do have a great education, thanks. I guess you are kind of sensitive, and that's your attempt at being funny. However, my post was very true, it's sad that it effected you like that though.

~155mm circumference, ~50mm width.

The Milanese Loop for the 42mm case has a range that starts at 150mm.

I loved the feel of it, but it just looked "wrong" and untidy having the magnet end so visible on the other side of the case.

It it had been just a bit shorter...

Thanks for replying! I think I will probably be ok. I've just used a usb cable to measure roughly and then laid it down on a ruler and I seem to be between 175-180mm.
