They are pretty much- I've got three iTunes $10 gift cards out and ready.

Pretty much is not good enough for me, why should I be discriminated as a business? The giftcards trick is a hack solution. Why should I pay more for the same thing through giftcards?
I don't really care for the few cents more that I'm paying. It's a matter of principle. And AFAIK they are in violation of European trade law (by not providing proper invoices to businesses).

Release of the Lion

I'm psyched to get Lion for my new Macbook pro and get the new Cinema display -- I gotta believe that Steve'll release the new display, new O.S. and new Macbook air systems tomorrow.

Rite im in a pickle guys

My 4gb RAM has failed on me and only 1gb is working, will be upto 1 week before a new batch ships.
Cant i buy lion when its out tomorrow ( we hope) and burn it to a disk?
if so where would i find the .dmg

If you need to connect to a domain infrastructure, you won't be buying a home edition of Windows - or any version of Mac OS X - in the first place, so the whole basis of your statement is null and void. You will directly buy a professional or enterprise edition, and companies usually buy those through a volume license contract at 'slightly' different prices than you will find on Amazon.

While I agree that the upgrade from Vista to 7 should also only have cost 29 bucks or should have been given out for free for Vista users, the upgrade from XP to Vista/7 was much more significant than the upgrades from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion were and the full upgrade price for Vista was justified - especially after all those years of development.

The move from Tiger to Leopard brought significant architectural changes, just like the move from XP to Vista did. But SL and Lion bring mostly cosmetic changes (in the case of Lion even some that make the whole system look uglier instead of better) and a few visual gimmicks, but nothing really significant. Basically, both Snow Leopard and Lion are just service packs for Leopard, like Windows 7 is just a usability and performance service pack for Vista.

But how do your 29 bucks upgrades look when you compare them with the free Ubuntu upgrades? Ubuntu evolves faster and with even more eye candy than OS X and Windows together, and it also is a much more secure, robust and faster platform than both Windows and OS X. Since most people spend most of their time in the web browser anyway, the arguments for the expensive platforms OS X and Windows are rapidly running against zero.

Anyway, while Lion is not an overly exciting upgrade, it's certainly not a bad update and it also is among the better of Apple's dot zero releases. But it is all that even without the annoying childish mocking of Microsoft Windows.
Ummm...We're at an Apple themed forum. What the hell are we suposed to do?
And Lion = ugly? Blasphemy... BLASPHEMY!!!!
And was vista to 7 so much lay-out changing? Ummm...no. Apple can at least stick to something that's really good instead of just trying to change everything to see how it "works out now". Have you seen the demo of Windows 8. How am I supposed to adjust again to another new UI.
And the fact is, almost everyone that I know still can't work with the new Office and still run into trouble with the .doc .docx failure. Let's all remember to save to .doc to make sure everyone can read it.
Everyone I know wants a mac instead of a pc, but just don't have the money to UPGRADE to a mac. The fact is: I'm buying a mac for everything that's better and keep my HP laptop because: 1. all my files are on it and 2. I need it to play games that aren't compatible with Mac because the developer world isn't ready for Mac yet.
And BTW: vista to 7: 199 euro as far as I know. I don't crap money
And Lion is, according to me, a nice change and addition, like xp base/vista UI to 7. And, according to the reactions on the last 3 news updates surrounding Lion, so do many others.

Dixons isn't Dutch, it's part of the British DSG plc (which owns Dixons, Currys and PC World - which are all, OMO, decidedly average). They have clearly inflicted their operating model on our Dutch neighbours. </pedant>

Wrong!

BAS group owns it(since today:p)

I was talking about for the average user, chill. Perhaps Apple has a solution. Try calling tomorrow.

It's only a 3-cent difference anyway. If you have 100 machines, you'll pay $3.00 more. Big whoop. If your company could afford 100 Macs, you can afford $3.00.

Apple already do this.

I think the OP means a Lion branded card with perhaps the OS X logo and a Lion graphic on it for exactly $29 wth info and instructions specifically referring to the new OS. Kind of like they have (or had?) for iPhones. Sure, it would be the same as an App store gift card but it would be good marketing and a great way to buy someone Lion as a gift.

Update: The Macitynet.it report has been pulled by request. We have also received word that the Euronics location has removed its prematurely-posted Lion signage.

Every time I read back to the states, I pick up new equipment because of the price difference.

Now we have a Blackbook with US keyboard, MBA 11" with US Keyboard, unbody macbook with Swedish keyboard, iMac 20" with Swedish keyboard and a white MacBook with a German keyboard (other iPods/shuffles/apple TV with different languages in the manuals and stuff)

movement of all the little extra symbols really pisses me off. Now, I only use the Swedish computers and she uses the US machines (even though she's German).

lol ... we are so messed up.

Just don't get a french keyboard, those are impossible to figure out.

Even though it's been removed, if this doesn't accurately predict Lion's release date, nothing can. I'll be up early tomorrow! :D

Easy folks.

Take a deep breath.

Yes, it's fun to have a new OS, but we're not curing cancer here.

Enjoy Lion. I'm looking forward to it, too.

But maybe we need to dial down the intensity. I doubt if it will change your lives THAT much.

Don't mean to be a buzz kill - just saying...

Buzz kill.

And don't forget to yell at the kids to get off your lawn.

ultimate configs

So I have read conflicting reports on whether the apple retail stores will get the ultimate configs in stock with the first shipment. Has anyone here ever gotten an "ultimate" config from a store on release day?

If I do have to order online what can I expect the ship time to be for a bto ultimate config on the first day of release?

Thats with a student discount, though. Base price, no student discount and from the actual microsoft website, is $199.99

Base price for Lion is $29.99.

Yes I know, but plenty of people are students / can get access to a student discount. And when you add in the higher cost of macs then it evens out. OS is a better system, but it's not that cheap. You can't just buy Lion if you have an older mac without Snow Leopard.

I wonder how hammered the servers will be as upwards of a million people will try to download this simultaneously?!? I'll just be happy to be one of them watching as it will take 3 hours+ to download.

I don't think it will be as bad as you think. It will be nowhere near the amount of people upgrading to iOS5 when that finally launches.
