I just read Ars' review...yes all of it...and it seems to me that there are so many paradigm shifts to user interaction that this really should have been called OS XI. Although most of the superficial look to the UI remains...albeit a bit muted.

It's my assumption that Apple retained the much of the familiar look as a way to transition users into a more radical shift with less angst...like ripping off a bandaid slowly. I expect those more superficial elements to be changed next go around.

I also echo John's position that the skeuomorphic designs of iCal and Contacts add little value and even reduce value when some of the implied functionality doesn't exist, as well as by adding visual noise & silliness. I hope this isn't Apple's direction.
This is what I wanted to say but couldn't say it like this. :D Well written.

I actually like the Launchpad. The apps I use daily are in my dock. The apps I use regularly are in my launchpad. I've grouped together the rest that I rarely use.

I like Mission control too. Unless you use more than 4 spaces it looks like a huge improvement.

I like Lion very much. I have changed the scrolling back to the original way. Is there a way to turn off "Auto Save"? I think it's the most annoying thing.

I hate it in iOS on my iPhone and I am not liking it on OS X either. I am wondering if there is a way to turn it off.

I just think there is more clicking when it's turned on.

Dude, you are far, far too flexible to be a MR member.

Imagine: having one opinion and then changing it over time as you learn more. Ridiculous. I'm pretty sure you can get banned for that. :D

I am learning this lol, that's why I don't post too much. A lot of times I just get shot down, because changing opinions as you learn the software/hardware is just unheard of :p

Does anyone know why Airport is now referred to as "wifi"?

I'm kinda sad Apple no longer calls wifi "Airport" anymore. :(

Well I can't give a proper review yet.I just downloaded Lion for my wife's macbook (only after I upgraded the ram to 4GB). Can't wait to test it out though. I tried to download it for my mac mini (Tiger moved to Snow Leopard) but it wouldn't let me...needed the 2 core ...so I broke down and bought a new mac mini today with Lion preloaded. Get it on Friday....I know....I know....I should have waited and bought an iMac...that is down the road though.:D

My Lion Report

LION REPORT: downloaded at 847am EST. done downloding at 916am.

took from 916 to about hmm 1020 (?) or so to install. 3 restarts. 33 mins for the actual install.

seems ok.. lol..the new mail is good.. love launch pad!!

safari seems faster so good bye chrome..

not sure i understand this whole mission control business LOL
still gotta play with it more

Really liking the full screen modes, especially with the gestures.

ok question if in full screen mode how do i know if i got mail.. also if i have 3 apps open - lets say safari mail and calendar.. shouldn't gestures like slide all 3 ?

To the Google Chrome users:

Is the 3-finger swipe to move between web pages broken in Lion? I know that initially, that gesture was assigned to Mission Control in the Trackpad preferences, but I disabled that and still can't get the swipe to work in Chrome.

I've heard that there's compatibility problems with chrome and the lion.. thats why (for me) chrome seems sluggish on the lion..

I must admit, at first I wasn't sure if I really liked Lion. Some features I did, some I wished I had back from Snow Leopard. However, after actually playing with it instead of moaning and complaining, I found that I actually prefer Lion so far. Not to mention, I was really excited once I found out spaces still exists, which was my one big problem with Lion at first.

i just don't get this whole spaces thing ;/

Well I didn't expect a good review from Gizmodo, and I guess I was right!

It's different, but not so much to bitch about, the changes are pretty cool for the most part and a step in a different direction, the price is a steal too.

Overall I'm extremely happy, I think some Mac users have had it so good for so long with updates to OSX that they're suffering from apathy, actually take a step back and see how much is offered and how much better OSX will be because of it. Stop being so judgemental and get used to the differences, only then can you form a balance view.

I'm still getting used to mission control. However, once you've put apps in another desktop, if you hit control + desktop number (control + 1, control + 2, etc) it will auto jump to that desktop, instead of clicking on mission control and manually clicking the desktop you want. For me, it's a big time saver that I used and abused on snow leopard

I'm using Lion now...

I can't believe Apple had the balls to fix the gesture scrolling problem....

This *never* made sense to me: you gesture up, the screen scrolls down. You gesture...

Finally, Apple set this right!

It takes a few minutes to unlearn the old, inverted way, but geeze, it just makes sense finally.

LOL - a couple of hours of use and my mind remains stuck with the old scrolling direction

Update - issue fixed - turned the feature off - went back to old scrolling direction :)

Lovin the new features, but they need to bring back the 2 finger swipe to go back a webpage, not to go into dashboard (which I've already turned off).

Two finger swipe does go back a web page. Three-finger is what switched between spaces (and went back to Dashboard if you were on that end).

"Very few bugs"?

Even apple can't say that. Every OS has tons of bugs. I don't think it is good idea to put it on the title. "works out of box"/"works well" should be more acceptable.

So many bugs. I can't put files on my time capsule anymore. Is anyone else having that problem? I drag and drop folders with stuff in them and the folder transfers but nothing inside. I drag and drop a document and nothing transfers...

My wife is enraged at me for updating her Macbook as they took away Front Row and replaced it with???

I can no longer play Starcraft or Warcraft 3 or run any legacy software. That alone makes this an absolute travesty. Is Rosetta really that hard to update for Lion?

The fact that almost every window looks like its grayed makes me wonder if its the top one or not. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Umm, they took away the colored icons in the side tray of folders?

I'm really trying to find anything to rave about Lion. Trying really, really hard. iCal has more color?
