Launchpad/Mission Control is a total disappointment

Launchpad

1. Not all the apps have the nice "cross" when hold it down (Most apps do not have)

2. All those applications that comes in folders are being "de-folderised" and now my launchpad is full of apps that I need to put them back into folders

3. Virtually impossible to work with a magic mouse, it is too fast.

Mission Control

1. Full Screen, the animation took some time
2. Full Screen cannot be moved around, in Mission Control
3. Snow Leopard expose is so much better !

Well, my version of Lion was purchased, but then I have seek for a refund. *APPROVED* Now, how do I downgrade to my snow leopard ?

I think that the only way to downgrade is reinstalling SL from scratch and restore from a TM previous to the Lion Upgrade.

So I'm guessing the next release after Lion will just be an iOS so that every Mac product works the same.

Had a look at some videos and features of Lion. Some features are interesting (autosave, launchpad, mission control), some things require me to buy new equipment (like a new mouse or touchpad, which I don't care about) but the best thing is the price.

As for full screen apps, not really concerned about, Launchpad looks ok but to me, can seem longer to find apps than the dock (depending on how many apps you have) and Mission Control is good for the laptops, but for me on my desktop, no real need.

I'll buy it, but probably towards the end of the year.

Two finger swipe does go back a web page. Three-finger is what switched between spaces (and went back to Dashboard if you were on that end).

I meant two finger swipe on the magic mouse, not trackpad.

And the 2 finger swipe to go back aint' working for me in Chrome.

hold on there buddy :)

im not all that excited about the update either, especially the fact that OSX is now deciding if it can close an app without my permission. but its the update, we have to go through it. i don't think their going to change their minds on the next update. what are you going to do, just stay with snow leopard as the rest of us get dragged into the future?

though maybe you have the right idea, they do give us features then take them away the next revision. for instance why did they give us the sliding bar at the bottom of icon view windows only to take it away in this latest release (view a finder window in icon view, we no longer have the sliding icon resize UI element on the bottom of the window).

so who knows, i guess you can hold out and expect things to go back to the way they were but my bet is, this is their version of better so we either get on board or look for another ticket.

Things I hate so far:

no SMB Support
AFP only with the newest Serverversion
--> renders my NAS useless*
The Big font on the Sidebar
The grey icons on the sidebar
"all my files" what the hell is the sense in seeing all 30.000 pics on your HDD in a single folder ?!
Inverted Scrolling
Expose showed all windows closed and openend (mc only opened)
The devices menu is at the bottom of the sidebar
gestures can not be changed properly
Launch Pad shows a deinstaller for all Adobe products although they are all the same
itunes chrashed 5 times in 2 hours
free updates from itunes app store unavailable
no ntfs support
no import from outlook in mail
address book looks completely stupid (there is way too much iOS Stuff that makes NO sense whatsoever in a Desktop OS)
no support for rosetta apps
actually this could go on for a while

Things I like

mmmhh...nothing...really nothing at all - for me the worst OS since Windows ME.

*if somebody knows a good NFS Tutorial for Lion I'd appreciate the link.

Worst since ME ? You're flipped.

I expected lion to be slower than snow leo. Its faster, smooth, stable, installation was simple. I had to reboot twice to get ichat working again, but otherwise, this is nice.

Things seem easier to read, autocorrect isn't nearly as obnoxious as I thought it would have been, and mail is only slightly irritating. The only thing I hate is scrolling, but I have a magic mouse so I probably just need to get used to.

No surprise that Jesus Diaz, the biggest douche at gizmodo, has a problem with it. Mainly he's taken to using the word "stupid" in every headline and posting pictures of corpses on what used to be an entertaining tech blog. I wouldn't group him with any of the other reviewers in that article.

Lion Crashed !

Just as I posted my last post, I took a shower.

I came back, my Lion hanged and refuse to response. I manage to restart the computer, and I am still back at this page.

I do not know if it is a good or bad thing. Auto-resume works.

If we take a step back, why setup a police force if there is no thieves. Now, there are "thieves" inside the Lion.

I wanna back my SL (record: 15 days no hang/crash) and I do not want to install from scratch :-(

No U-Verse in my state yet, sadly. :(

Which version did you buy? Basic? Home Basic? Home Premium? Student Basic? Student Premium? Business Basic? Business Platinum Mover & Shaker Package? Ultimate? Super Ultimate? Or Super Ultimate Platinum Deluxe Limited Steve Ballmer Edition?

I'm having a hard time deciding.

;)

Using gigE at work, SWEET :)

i am sure microsoft is celebrating right now. whats next? removing the mouse? no wait its the dvd drive. no steve the world isent a cloud. not like this.

After 12 hours...

... I can really say I could of waited.

For the most part I couldn't see a difference other than the fact they changed my desktop background.

What I like so far:

Can't think of anything except for the download icon in Safari, and that isn't really Lion related...

What I really hate so far: (besides the selected desktop pic)

Scroll Bars:

I can't get used to not really having scroll bars. I have a magic pad, and I didn't mind using it, but when I switched my mighty mouse (I prefer it sometimes), there was no 'Target' scroll bar button to target where to click and after clicking and it appeared, I ended up having to do the click again.

This will take some getting used to.

Saving Windows:

I liked before when I could reboot and things started fresh and I got to open things up.

The last time I rebooted, it tried to resign in to my web email account and of course timed out and complained.

This will take some getting used to.

As far as launch pad, etc. It's kind of useless (for me) as I have this think called the dock which does pretty much everything I need.

It really seems that they're trying to make my iMac into a really big iPad. I guess time will tell.

Still getting used to Lion, however, I will say the new multi-touch features have made me appreciate the touch pad. Honestly, until Lion came out, I was still in favor of using a mouse. But, now I can navigate my MBP like I am using my iPad or iPhone. Pure genius. Why did they not think of it sooner?

But there is no option to configure Launchpad other than to drag icons around and creating folders. Ridiculous. I started to put all these useless applications into a single folder until it was full and I needed to create a second folder.

How do you normally delete applications?

Drag them to the trash.

Only the LaunchPad icon is deleted, the actual application is still installed.

I do agree that LaunchPad is probably something I'll never use... I've gotten used to Spotlight for launching apps.

I haven't had too much time to spend with my new pet Lion today (probably 3 hours total), but so far I am having a lot of reactions that I didn't expect. For example, being a heavy Spaces user, I thought I would hate the way Mission Control does things, but I actually like it...even the automatic re-ordering of desktops, which I was sure I would despise!

So far things are working well. I had an issue installing this on my MP where it put my displays to sleep and I couldn't wake them up, then it refused to pair with my trackpad, but I haven't found any bugs in the actual OS yet, post installation. Install on the MBP went as smooth as expected.

However, there are things that I do not like, even though I am sure they can be easily rectified when I have the time to dig around. Having Library files hidden in Finder bugs me (I know they can be reached via the "Go To Folder" command, but that seems unnecessary). I am also annoyed that the gestures are inconsistent. For instance, to move back a page in Safari the gesture is two-fingers to the right. To move back in other areas--System Prefs for instance--it is four-fingers to the left. I am confident BTT will fix that for me when I dig into it.

It will take a little more usage before I decide how much I like it, but so far Lion seems well worth the cheap price. I was fearful that it would be too iOS-ish, but I haven't seen that yet outside of Launchpad, which I won't use anyway thanks to Spotlight. For what I do, it seems pretty polished for a .0 release.

"Thieves"? What "thieves"?

Just copy over the clone you made of your SnowLeopard disk (using CCC or SuperDuper) before you upgraded. Let it run overnight and you'll be back to scratch first thing in the morning.

You did make a bootable backup before you upgraded, didn't you? ;)

JEEZ people love to complain about things. Half of the complaints here are the most pettiest asinine little things, or things where clearly the user is doing it incorrectly.

The same people who are wanting to downgrade to Snow Leopard are the same people who posted what a "rip off" Snow Leopard was because it really didn't have any new features.

I just can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading. Wow.

Having Library files hidden in Finder bugs me (I know they can be reached via the "Go To Folder" command, but that seems unnecessary).

If you hold down option the library folder appears right under the "Go" header. Way simpler that way :3

Is anyone having trouble logging into FaceTime after upgrading to Lion? There is some sort of server issue, so I know the problem isn't on my end.

KUDOS to Steve / the Team and APPLE.

I have installed Lion / iTunes 4 on two iMacs and an i7 MBP w/o any real problems - very easy, fairly quick, no crashes, and having fun playing around with the new features. Some I like, some are so/so - but it is the near term future - let go of the old and learn the new.

My plan is to hold off for a few days for my MacPro - probably load that on Friday.

Siracusa's review has given me a significantly different viewpoint on Lion than i originally had.

Code:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/

You're welcome. :D
