i'm getting the next mbp--whether that comes out on the 15th or a month later.

I've waited so long to upgrade out of the fear that I'd buy at the wrong time. In 2003, they debuted the aluminum 15" 3 months after I purchased my maxed-out Ti, so i've been shell-shocked since.

I'm buying whatever Steve debuts next, and if he comes up with something revolutionary in 6 months, I'll sell what I've got and upgrade to that. I'd honestly drop another $500-$1000 net over the next year just to finally have the best out there.

first time posting here on macrumors...

and i am also planning to buy a mbp after macworld. my first apple computer since my old power pc over 10 years ago .

i'm going to either buy the top of the line 17" hi-res with all the fixin's, or (if it's not substantial enough an improvement to justify the price differential) pick up an EOL'd 17" hi-res 2.6 online somewhere.

it's time to give the parents the 15" coreduo mbp, and sell the dual 2.0 G5 desktop, and consolidate my life in a capable (at last) barnstorming laptop that can handle what i throw at it (lots of music production).

i hope that tuesday's tidings surprise and delight us all!

Count me in! My first mac since one of these:

I'll be getting a 15" 2.6ghz

Well, let me be the first to express my utmost disgust.
How the hell could they be so stupid, all we ask is an update.
I am thoroughly annoyed now.
Way to bugger it up, Apple.

What if there isnt a macbook pro update and all of us have waited for nothing

This forum would descend into chaos huh?

one would hope not, and although i will be getting a macbook pro, i will be deeply dissapointed if they havent made it more value for money.

I was right :D

another few months of waiting for me then :(

*waits for chaos*

Refurb 15" for me then. Can't believe they've not done an update. I'm still going to wait till the end of the month to be 'safe'

They did update -- Just two months ago.

I own one: it is a great box. 2.6ghz, high res display, the works.

Rated best power laptop by PCWORD in December.

I really can't believe that they didnt update it. Has Intel shipped the Mobile Penryn's yet? You would think that they would say "And today we are going to update the MBP line to new Penryn Processors." Maybe we will see an update in the next few weeks. I need a computer, I am using my Mom's Mini, and I need a laptop right now!

Link.

I think you'll find it's June - over 6 months ago, a BTO top-end option isn't an update.

True, about the BTO.

I have NEVER like the logic (or lack of) that Mac Rumors Buyers Guide uses.

The writers of this have obviously never spent any time in a corporate design and production department -- clearly they do not understand product lifecycles.

The MacBook Pro is STILL very much a world class laptop. These reviews are from Nov/Dec 2007.

Although I am somewhat disappointed by the lack of update, I'm also hopeful. If the next revision were just a simple die shrink and speed bump, surely they would have released it. I'm guessing the next MacBook Pro will have all the advancements you see in the MacBook and MacBook Air, such as a new look, new keyboard, new trackpad, a magnetic latch, and who knows, maybe even NAND memory. :)

Sure it will, but not until NINE MONTHS at the earliest.

Here's why: Apple is NOT going to cannibalize sales of the MacBook Air among current Pro laptop users who would buck up for this.

It is all about product life cycle and not what we "hope" for.

so disappointed... i was hoping for at least a small update to the graphics or processor. as much as i want to continue waiting in hopes of an update, i probably will just buy either a 15"-er or 17"-er this week.

Because obviously all professionals will want to be photoshopping and using Final Cut on their new MacBook Air
I hate to say it but the MBP and MBA are two completely different niches.

Agreed. If I could do my work on the MacBook Air, I'd preorder it right now. But the lack of firewire and slow/small hard drive kill it for me. This is not a machine for power users.

i think i'm going to die. why do we have to wait soooooo long!?!?! I always say :apple: forever.... think that has a new meaning to it now!
