What's your situation in relation to a MacBook Pro?

As much as I love the MBP, it does look rather old next to the MBA, in terms of design. I'm sure there must be an overhaul soon, it looks a bit clunky in comparison.

I would like to see a user configurable OLED keyboard that comes with templates: Standard QWERTY, DVORAK, and custom templates for different applications like Final Cut. No more having to deal with overlays. Your entire keyboard will change in appearance depending on what application you're running.

I'm quite sure they've thought of that. It's one of the reasons iPhone doesn't have a qwerty.

Macworld yesterday. But anyone have an idea when apple will put new processors and GPU in the MBP? Would make me buy one.

I have a MBP, but am ordering a regular MacBook because I need to downgrade some stuff in my life (don't ask, New Year's Resolution so to say).

Anyways, I will have this for sale in the next couple of days:

17" MBP - Glossy screen
OSX Tiger
2.33
160GB
3GB Corsair Ram
Have over 2 years of Apple Care left

Okay, sounds alright .. though the major update there has been some talk about scares me a little! Hate to "throw money" out the window, if it gets twice as powerful in 4 months.. The look doesn't concern me, only whats inside.

Well I'm now holding off until Feb 8th. If no processor bump has happened I'm jumping into the current lineup. I do hope they have a stealth update...

But I always have 15 days and 10% if they happen to do it after the 8th.

Plan to buy

Yep, i plan to buy one(yey for student discount!). Probably in about ... 4.5 weeks.

Cant wait! :D

Air was a disapointment, so now I'm holding out for either a Macbook redesign or a MBP refresh, haven't decided yet. Ugh

Me Too

My 17" PB has been heroic but needs to retire honorably, i'd like to see a 512 card in the new ones. If it includes multitouch and chicklet keyboard then i'll be refurbing it as the all aluminum is a classic and can not be improved IMHO. Still plugging for a 17" bad boy though with extra power than the 15".

I want to spend around 3500 € (about 5000 $) on a new state-of-the-art 17", but for that much money I expect more performance, so I'm waiting.

(My current 15" get's tortured very hard - from days of constant rendering, mobile using, playing games on lanpartys, as my TV and everyday desktop-replacement - so I need every bit of power I can squeeze out of the next machine.)

I've been waiting for the Macbook Pro revision to replace my aging decrepit Sony Vaio from 2004 since Leopard came out. I've been watching the little update graph on the buyer's guide get longer and longer since then with no update and I was really disappointed with no announcement. :(

While I agree the MBP should be overhauled, I hope it looks nothing like the MBA. Personally, I don't like its styling. I sold my MBP anticipating an update at Macworld, but it looks like I will be waiting for a little while. I would have bought an ultra-portable instead, but the MBA doesn't impress me(1 USB Port, 1.8" HD, Huge Bezel Around Screen, Ugly, Etc.).

BTW- You can put me down for waiting to buy a new MBP.

I agree, but something needs to be done. Oh, and I'll put you down.

My tax returns should arrive by then. I'm trying not to put anything on the credit cards if possible. Its easier to justify new hardware opposed to the current hardware lineup.
Damn, I thought you knew something

Again, I must be the only one who LOVES the new keyboards (which is obviously making its way across the entire Mac lineup...already found on the MB, iMac, and now MBA).

Magnetic latch, MBA-style keyboard, and (slight) hardware bump all on the MBP would make me giddy like a schoolgirl.

I'm on that waiter-list as well. I really want an 15" MBP 2,4 Ghz right now, but I know I'd feel so stupid if I buy it now and it updates in a couple of weeks. I don't want a complete redesign, but increased specs at the same price would make the MBP a better bang for the buck. I plan on waiting till february 5th, and if there's still no hardware update by then, I'll order anyway. I also have two weeks possibility of returning it, so if Apple launches an upgrade before february 19th, I'll return the one I ordered and re-order the new one. I really have a feel for a silent hardware upgrade by then, though.
