I just got an email notification from the Apple Store (timestamped 9:00:34 AM ET today, Jan 29) that my MacBook Air shipped and will deliver by Feb 1 via FedEx. :)

Looks like I'll have it for the weekend. No tracking info yet, so I can't see where it is in transit.

I ordered on Jan 15, 2008 at 12:52 PM PST.

It's a 1.6 standard 80 GB machine. No accessories. I did opt for the expedited shipping, though.

Nice for you, however im pretty sure you've missed the appropiate thread :p

*Puts hand up

I had my Debit card in my sweaty hand during the keynote waiting, but alas...

I am just hoping that the new one has an ATI card in it. I tested the (current) Nvidia card against a 1st gen MBP with the ATI and it was faster for OpenGL stuff.

LOL@txhil...

I have found that ATI cards that aren't of the workstation class rely on OpenGL more for their performance. However, I still believe nVidia has a better quality of build.

I think that's a good new because, perhaps, today the store will be close for update the "preorder" and shiptimes of MBA, and ........
the Leopard 10.5.2 and the MBP.....

Please ... I can't wait no longer :apple::(:apple:

Brilliant =)
It's actually quite nice and exciting to wait like this, it's like hunting. The catch is not as fun as the hunt.
We are nerd cavemen.

Edit: On the other hand... I want my ****ing MBP now, gosh darn it! =)

DARN TOOTIN We want our MBP's but looks like today is out! Here is to another week of Quivering anxiety!:D

Sorry guys but it looks like a no-go for today :( Oh well, now I can continue to feed my addiction to this thread and waste every free moment of my day with you guys!

We would all miss each other anyway! I don't know what I'd do if I actually got to buy a MBP today. The constant commiseration is so soothing...a dark fuzzy warm place in a sea of apple anxiety. Consider this free moment wasted.

I'm thinking we need support groups. I'm going to the Regents Street store at the W'end to stare, longingly, as current MBP's - anyone want to meet up to share the difficultty in being a PMBPPWFAU* ?
:D

:apple: - stop being such bastards and just tell me when I can buy my new laptop so I can get on with my life.

(Potential Macbook Pro Purchaser waiting for an upgrade)

Hey everyone.

First post here, and I just wanted to let you know that not only am I waiting on the MBP update, but I'm waiting on this update to make the great switch to OS X/Apple.

I'm sitting here, typing on a dying Toshiba laptop. The trackpad doesn't work. Only one USB port works (taken up by USB mouse), no firewire works, sound is jacked, battery lasts about 50 minutes, and it has power functionality problems.

That's right.

I'm typing on something that cavemen could improve on.

I've got a $2500 check that I haven't deposited yet that will go towards my MBP. I am a musician and recording engineer that will use this to boost up my ProTools abilities and start myself out. (I haven't deposited it yet because I know that I'll spend it if I have it at my disposal!)

Up until I learned of this hopeful update, I had already added my MBP to my cart and was ready to buy. 15" 2.4GHz w/ 4GB of RAM, 200GB 7200rpm HDD, and a matte screen. I was ready to buy. I was so excited.

Now, I'm waiting. Penryn's boost to speed and battery life is something I want. I can wait for another month or so. So, here's to waiting and surviving on what I've got. That is, if I can make it.

Brave man!

If I was a more positive person, I would say that Apple has released products on Wednesdays before. They would probably like to wait a day longer than people are expecting, so they can sell off some of their current stock (from people tired of waiting), as well as those refurbs they just posted.

I am also currently waiting on a much needed update on the MBP.

Currently using my Acer laptop running XP, never had a mac before but with university in septemeber I'm definately getting a mac. Would have liked an update today as I get the paypal cash for selling my Wii and paid on friday!

What time of day do they usually announce it then? Has that time already passed?

Damn. Well, current MBP, here I come :D (will probably eat the restocking fee if an update comes within 2 weeks)

-Also my first mac ever :) [if you exclude the iPod Touch]

somewhat off topic, but can anyone tell me which of the Los Angeles/westside apple stores has a 17" with a hi-res display on the floor to ogle? last time i was in an apple store a few weeks ago, all they had were the regular-resolution models.

given the waiting, i'm again weighing the "well, a 2.4 current-model will probably do the trick" option on refurb, given the stupendous savings over new, but i'd like to actually see the resolution in practice on that screen first (i've got a 23" ACD at home, and a 15" 2.0 CD MBP).

also, what are the sizes of the caches on the current-model 2.4 and 2.6 GHz C2D's? the site says "up to 4MB", which i'm assuming is for the 2.6, but i couldn't find a figure for 2.4 anywhere.

how big of a difference will the 4MB (current 2.6) to 6MB (penryn 2.6) cache delta make in terms of performance? i'm looking to use the computer mainly for running Logic Pro with loads of softsynths and plugins.

thanks for any helpful input!
(jokes at my expense are usually good for a laugh too, so have at it if you must!)

****

I can not take this anymore i need a laptop and i cant keep getting my hopes up that the macbook pro is going to come out anyday now..

I think i am going to have to get the current macbook pro

Add me to the list - I'm waiting (dying!) for the updated MBPs.

The thing that sucks is the longer I wait, the closer the NEXT update comes *sigh* but I won't be waiting for the Montevina update.

The other thing that sucks (kinda) for me is I'm using an ADC discount and those purchases cannot be returned. So, if I buy the current MBP and the new one comes out next week or the day after, I can't return it.

vixapphire, AnandTech has a great performance benchmark of Merom vs. Penryn:

Apple likes Wednesday's too... Remember the surprise upgrade to the first MacBook Pros right when they began shipping? That was on a Wednesday. So was the 24" iMac release. They especially like to release OS updates on Wednesdays.

Hmm, hate to point out but thats actually a tuesday. (Feb 14, 06). If it were 2007 then it would be a wednesday.

Wish it were released today... ah well the waiting game keeps on going...

I googled Apple Releases Wednesday... guess I should have double checked!
