List: MR Members Waiting To Buy A New MacBook Pro

First post. Been a lurker for some time but I finally have a relevant question that hasn't been addressed in this thread...

I'm making the switch to OS X after years of editing photography and music on a PC and finally my machine is dying, so I'm in the market for a new laptop.

Next Friday is my birthday and my folks want to buy me a new computer as a graduation present/b-day gift. All this jargon going on about how the next MBP update will be yesterday, and now this coming Tuesday.

My question is if the update(s) do come out on Tuesday, will the new models be in the Mac stores by Friday? Or is it only available on the Webstore?

Well well, another day gone by and i find myself with a wallet full of cash and in need of a notebook. Somehow i just cant live with the thought of making a purchase now, knowing whats lurking around the corner. Apple need to start being a bit more transparant about their updates!!!!!!

I couldn't wait any longer and have just bought a brand new 15" 2.2 GHz model.

However I got a sweet deal off of ebay £950 saving £350 so I am not upset with my decision at all. This means I can finally remove the last PC from my life

That all depends. They will definitely be available trough the Apple Store On-Line but their retail stores could take a while to get them in. It all depends on how many of the standard models they produce ahead of time. So really no one can say when they will be available.

I tried to purchase the MBP through one distributor in Jakarta. And apparently there was no stock left for the MBP (maybe it's just one distributor). However, the interesting part of it was, they said they are expecting to receive the new type with the next shipment.
Oh yeah, btw, the MBP sold for $2,350 for some reason. (discounted price?)

Checked with authorized reseller in Surabaya, depleted stock of MBPs.
Checked with apple store in Singapore, they offered free memory upgrade to 4GB with the MBPs.

I think something's coming up with the MBP.

Just canceled my MBA order. I think I'm going to get a lot more computer for the money. I always wanted a MBP but was caught up in the hype. I'm sure that I am not the only pre order MBA to cancel.

I can defiantly see Apple adding this as an option. Many people use the MBP with other hard drives anyway for video editing and such, so being able to run programs like Final Cut right of the SSD would increase the performance I imagine.

From what I'm hearing about Solid-State Drives, it's not making me wanna upgrade to one (not at the moment anyway)

For now, I'll stick with HDD until SSD becomes more affordable and with more memory capacity.

Yeah - hasn't been for a week or more, or I'd probably have folded and bought one. I'm sure as hell not paying £1279 for a refurb with the x1600 when the 8600 was a £1299 refurb.

i've been waiting for a MBP since November.. waiting till the day i transition over to my first Mac pc user for years..

I was wondering when they drop the new MBP will it completely replace the current MBP's and therefore be the same price according to their screen sizes? And I do notice many users from europe.. i'm asking if this applies to the states.

Aahhh my first post having visited the site for a couple of years!

This year, I will mostly be buying:

1) New MacBook Pro (assuming it is redesigned, with multi-touch etc)

2) Time Capsule 500gb

3) A 3G'ed iPhone with new (actually competitive) tariffs - and hopefully 16gb

4) A new car - but Apple haven't started on that one yet...

I am getting really impatient waiting for the new MBP and I hope it lives up to expectations!!

Folk’s Just a few thoughts!

1. Keeping in mind that Apple has established a “Very Special Relationship” with Intel. Apple always gets first dibs on the Xeon processors for the MacPro line.. while everyone else, gets them a bit later..

2. Is it possible for Intel to release Montevina to apple in late Feb? Special event in late Feb with shipping by March? You have to remember that they did re-engineer the Penryan for the Air? They could deliver Montevina early as well.. “Apple Exclusive”?

3. If 2 is true, Could Apple Completely skip Penryn on the MacBook Pro’s and use it for the MacBook and use Montevina on the MacBook Pro’s.

I'm ready to drop money on the base 15" as soon as it's updated. I'll be bumping up the standard HD to the max possible though. Money will be sitting in the bank as of payday tomorrow!!

Originally, I was just going to get one to replace my 12" PB some time this year, but now every Tuesday I'm praying for that update. My 12" HD is full - hence my general need to update (also, as it's getting quite old - 4.5 years to be precise!).

Yup, and I replied then too, I'm still holding out on the idea of personal delivery as part of the update, BTO of course...



What are peoples thoughts on the update coinciding with the 10.5.2 release? Would they do this together or separately???
