Still waiting... and I hope they include this in the update:
- magnetic latch
- MBA-style keyboard
- Penryn CPU with bumped speed
- higher video memory, 256MB on entry level and 512MB of the others
- MultiTouch
- slightly redesigned case to fit new keyboard and multitouch

That all sounds pretty straightforward. I think MT on the MBP may have held back the release a little, just to give the Air a little more exclusive time in the limelight with the feature.

What I do to pass the time until I can buy my first (updated) Mac:

:apple: reading this post at least ten times a day
:apple: checking and crossreferencing apple rumor sites
:apple: checking apple's homepage
:apple: playing with the actual Macbooc Pro at a local store
:apple: eating apples

This is pretty much what I do once a day if I have the time:eek:... I'm waiting for the update as well. Here's what I would love to see:
- magnetic latch (replacing the current latch system)
- Penryn CPU with speed bump
- Increase in video memory, 256MB entry level with a 512MB option
- MultiTouch (larger trackpad as well)

I severely hope they don't transition away from the current keyboard layout and intergrate a MB-like keyboard in the new MBP. I like it the way it is.

Be careful, or you may find yourself having to live in some dingy hotel in the lower Bronx for a few weeks. Just because they're "out", doesn't mean they're in the stores that day :D
True and you might want to go somewhere not a populated as the east coasts cities like NYC, Boston, Philadelphia etc. Check fares going into central U.S. cities...though you'd probably have to fly into JFK...Miami maybe??

waiting

put me on the list too! I have been waiting for about six months to buy a new MacBook Pro.

1. Keeping in mind that Apple has established a “Very Special Relationship” with Intel. Apple always gets first dibs on the Xeon processors for the MacPro line.. while everyone else, gets them a bit later..

2. Is it possible for Intel to release Montevina to apple in late Feb? Special event in late Feb with shipping by March? You have to remember that they did re-engineer the Penryan for the Air? They could deliver Montevina early as well.. “Apple Exclusive”?

3. If 2 is true, Could Apple Completely skip Penryn on the MacBook Pro’s and use it for the MacBook and use Montevina on the MacBook Pro’s.

Love your feedback..

HMMMMMM...very interesting thought process.

This is essentially what I'm hoping for as well (although I don't really care about the keyboard- switch it or keep it the same, I don't really have a preference).

I like the sound of that, but 2 things I would like to add:
1) I love the MBP keyboard, prefer it over the MB and MBA keyboard...I hope they dont change that to much
2) I also hope they will address the massive heat it distributes.

Oh, and perhaps, though this is reaching, better battery life! Cause mine isnt that good:p

Well well, another day gone by and i find myself with a wallet full of cash and in need of a notebook. Somehow i just cant live with the thought of making a purchase now, knowing whats lurking around the corner. Apple need to start being a bit more transparant about their updates!!!!!!

HA! AS IF! Apple loves that we are all teetering on the edge of insanity! They thrive on our emotional turmoil! They are all sitting in their big white, glass and aluminum apple offices in the sky, fists in the air, heads thrown back, mouths yawping great MWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHss!

I'd imagine them to look something like this :)

Actually, because Apple is now dependent on Intel for processors, and Intel's roadmaps are public, Apple is much more transparent now!

Back when it was like G5, G3, G4, whatever... nobody knew what was cookin'!

I said this in the other thread but it seems this is the more popular one so I will post it here too (if it's ok):

I am definitely waiting on the new Macbook Pro. I know it may seem like I am a fresh new member here but I have been following the rumors closely on the site and I can't wait for Apple to release the new MBPs. My old Toshiba A20 is taking a beating (I've had it for at least 4 years, going on to 5th) and I need something new and updated. This is going to be my first time getting a Mac computer. Ever since I was small, I was brought up with PCs (dad is a computer programmer so I had access to a computer early on ) but he was quite surprised when I said I wanted a MBP as my next laptop. The thing is, I am done with Windows, I've become too frustrated with their OS and while XP is decent, getting a new laptop would mean I would have to deal with the crappy Vista (I worked on a Vista laptop and it's just horrible), so Apple's the way to go. :D

Dear Newbie Wolf,
Welcome to what I'm sure your dad would consider the dark side.( Insert heavy Darth Vader breathing here). I am sure you will enjoy a Mac but be pactient for switching over for p.c.ers is sometimes difficult because mac is so easy and your p.c. mind might very well be trained to accept the difficult therefore making the easy hard to accept thus making the process difficult. Whew was that difficult or what? It took my Uncle a little time to get used to how simple Mac can be but once he realized he did not have to fight a Mac he loved it. He said it was like going to a resort. Hey he's 76 so chances are you will be able to gel nicely. Now if he could just convince his twin brother, my dad, to do the same then I would not have to go over to his house and try to help him out of his XP daily drama. Hope you enjoy your new MBP...Hell I hope I enjoy my new MBP...if it EVER comes out!! Hang in there with the rest of us miserable ,waiting for the updated MBP, souls..welcome to the "Dark Side." Hil

I'm gettin excited...

So, say it were to come out next week and by 'it' I mean the MPB! What's the likelihood of a redesign? Would it be available straight away in stores or not? And what kind of launch will it be?

QUESTIONS:eek:

Add the MacBook Keyboard and LED back-lighting on all models and you have the perfect MBP.

Hi all,

Was planning to wait till mid-march for my MBP, I'm hoping to see a keyboard redesign and a multi-touch trackpad, Penryn processors and a resigned case would be nice:)

So, add me to the list too. It's time to retire the work 15" PBG4 (3 years) and although my manager kinda wanted to buy the thing early in the year (easier to get the funds approved) I really wanted to wait for the newer chips.

As long as it's announced before, say, March, I'll be happy.

I kinda wish they'd support >4GB RAM, but I suppose that's a pipe dream.

So do I. I love the actual keyboards. I think keys in Macbooks should have a little curve instead of that flat surface (as well as the beautiful slim but flat-keys keyboard of the new iMacs).

BTW, I'm also waiting for the new release of MBP. I'll buy a 15" because I need one computer for everything: scientific computation with Matlab, writing in LaTeX, having fun with iLife, and Windows (just for the games, I swear :p). For that reason I should forget MacBook Air although I love small and light notebooks (I have a 4 year-old PowerBook 12" which still works perfectly with Leopard).
