Dear Newbie Wolf,
Welcome to what I'm sure your dad would consider the dark side.( Insert heavy Darth Vader breathing here). I am sure you will enjoy a Mac but be pactient for switching over for p.c.ers is sometimes difficult because mac is so easy and your p.c. mind might very well be trained to accept the difficult therefore making the easy hard to accept thus making the process difficult. Whew was that difficult or what? It took my Uncle a little time to get used to how simple Mac can be but once he realized he did not have to fight a Mac he loved it. He said it was like going to a resort. Hey he's 76 so chances are you will be able to gel nicely. Now if he could just convince his twin brother, my dad, to do the same then I would not have to go over to his house and try to help him out of his XP daily drama. Hope you enjoy your new MBP...Hell I hope I enjoy my new MBP...if it EVER comes out!! Hang in there with the rest of us miserable ,waiting for the updated MBP, souls..welcome to the "Dark Side." Hil
It seems like I have been waiting forever... Thanks Steve. I would imagine that the update will be minor (i.e no case change). Whatever the case, put me on the waiting list. I had a 2.2ghz refurb that I ordered right after MWE08. I sent it back and am waiving my 180days no interest just for the update...
i know this has probably been asked loads of times but what are the main differences between intels penny farthing and monte cristo processors??
Sure am!
I'm waiting for the new MBP. Hoping to get the lower end model with a HDD of 160GB. Will be buying as soon as it's released as the Back to School promo is now on so I get a free iPod nano! YAY!
For anyone wondering, Penryn is essentially a smaller version of the current architecture, going from 64nm to 45nm, but with a bunch of tweaks such as increased L2 cache (up to 6MB), they consume less power, in turn increasing battery life, even if only marginally and speed increases (base MBP suspected to be 2.5GHz).
In general, the transition from SR to Penryn will be a small step, but so close to the update it doesn't seem to make sense to buy the current model if possible.
The following update, after the Penryn processors (running on the SR platform), will be to the Montevina platform, an update to the SR platform.
Gains are small between updates nowadays.

Haha, I never tought of OSX as the dark side. I thought of it more of like the coming of salvation.I have been using Windows since as far as I remember, so no doubt it will be tough at first to discover everything and tweak the settings to my liking but no problem.
Some of my friends have a Macbook Pro and I play around with their laptops to get the general feeling of it and so far I love it. My only problem so far is that there's no Nokia software for my N73 and while there are numerous ways around (except updating the firmware), it kind of sucks Nokia doesn't support OSX.
