I'm hoping to get the free nano aswell. Hopefully the promo doesn't end when the new one comes out...

Might as well add me to the list. I've decided to pass on the Mac Pro and wait for the update to the Macbook Pro.

Guess i'll just keep using my Dell (which is running very well since i've upgraded a few components).

I figured , I already have one desktop at home, why get another when I can have a mobile option now.

I hope its next week. I don't need it so ...... waiting is ok for now.

I Second the Blu-Ray Comment

I know many people think that Blu-Ray is "cost prohibitive" but I would like to see Apple include a Blu-Ray drive in the MBP. (I was hoping it would be in the :apple:tv. Even though it may be a loss leader, THAT would have been a product that would be HARD to pass up. With a Hard Drive, EtherNet, HDMI, it's perfectly positioned to be a competitive Blu-Ray player.)

As I said, I would love to see Blu-Ray in the MBP but don't believe that they will do it, not just yet. My guess is that a Blu-Ray drive will be an option for future Mac Pros. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I know Apple is in the Blu-Ray camp, but they have not shown much commitment to getting Blu-Ray drives into their products. I hope that I am wrong.

Add me to the "waiting" list...

New to the forum!

Waiting to purchase... was this close to buying a refurb 17" MBP this month until I came across the news about the upgrades.

Looking forward to a brand-new 15" MBP to use with FCP. My first laptop, and my first Mac...

Can't Wait!!!

So I am pretty new to this site. I have a PC still, but am going to buy a MBP, 15", 2.4, 160g. But i have been checking this site out and supposedly they are coming out with some updates, so I'm going to wait a bit. I can't wait though, i'm so excited. Apple, is the best, and i can't wait to get rid of my dell POS. I have a couple questions for all you apple people. So when these supposed updates come out, will they still have the student discount? Also, i am trying to decide if it's worth even buying the office for mac or if iwork is sufficient. I ask because everybody and their mother uses office, so is iwork compatibable if it's opened on a pc in office?

APPLE ROCKS!

It'd be very surprising, to me at least, if they did anything with Blu-Ray. They believe the future is in over the web media, and they're right even though it's still a way of from becoming dominant. If you want to watch an HD movie, simply rent one with iTunes. Sure it's a little pricey for now, but you don't have to buy a $300 player.

I'm waiting for a new MacBook Pro. I got burned buying an ipod a month before the new one came out, and I'm not making that mistake again.

Someone try and sway me. I currently use a macbook, and take good care of it, but my edges are chipped, my cd-rom drive doesn't work half the time, and my screen doesn't work unless i put pressure on the top left corner of it. My first problem is the nearest apple store is two hours away in Detroit.

I really, really like it, but I think it is a hassle, esp. for the small hard drive size and integrated video memory. I want to upgrade to a MBP (and hopefully it gets new specs), but don't know if I can justify the $1700+ (student discuont) baseline specs.

Can someone sway me?

First off it sounds like even if you get to Detroit, they probably won't help much because those chipped edges and multiple hardware problems would definitely suggest physical damage, which is something that Apple is very serious about not covering. I am not saying you accidentally damaged it, but if you did and they can tell, they won't be able to give you any free repairs. By the problems you mentioned, it does sound like you might have dropped it a few times, if not, then if you are under warranty you should either go to the store or send it in to AppleCare.
As far as the upgrade to MBP, it really depends if the bigger hard drive and video card are worth the extra $700+ to you. Its definitely a nicer machine, and it might last longer than a MacBook. I just sold my first generation MBP from Jan06 so I can buy a new MBP when they are updated, but the one I sold definitely could have given me a few more solid years. You'll benefit from a bigger, higher resolution screen, backlit keyboard, faster processor, bigger hard drive, some extra ports, and dedicated graphics card. If that to YOU is worth the extra money as opposed to a new MacBook, then by all means go for it. But this decision really lies on you, its going to be your purchase and your machine, so give it some good thought while we all wait for an updated MBP.
Hope that helps.

i think he just wants to buy one...not get it replaced...

another newbie

I am a first time mac user, and I wanted to wait for the MBP update, but I couldn't and had to get my MBP in December. Apple is 30-40% more expensive here in Europe compared to US and my friend could bring me one over from US even with the student discount =) but the only time was before christmas, so I went with it and I am soo happy :)

Count me in!

I'm eagerly awaiting buying a new MBP! I have a video editing job here in February and I have been sooo close buying the present MBP rev.

Thankfully I have a wife that can talk some sense in to me. She has persuade me to use our 1 yr old shared iMac 20" for the project - and then buy the MP when it comes out.

OK I CAN WAIT... SURELY.... ARRGGH

They wont touch Blu-Ray until a clearly defined leader emerges from the battle. So we are probably going to have to wait until the FCC jumps in and declares one the victor after the HD switch.

Sounds like Apple has chosen the side they thing will prevail, but don't really want to show their commitment. Once the war is over, I'm sure Apple will declare their allegiance and how they've been with Blu-Ray all along.

I'm waiting too

I have been waiting since October for the new Macbook Pros to come out. Vista has caused me to want to make the switch. I watched the keynote notes here on Mac Rumors and was very disappointed that we didn't get any info at the Mac Expo. Macbook Air is a neat toy, but what I really need is a solid tool, and there are some big updates that I highly anticipate will come. (and honestly the current system really needs a shot in the arm to boost it to 2008 standards for computing). I am so anxious! Hopefully Steve will deliver before I get my tax refund check!

I Joined just to post on this thread.

I want a new 15" MBP and I am not going to buy one until the processors are upgraded to become competitive at least.

I'll also be purchasing 2 other 15" MBP's for employees as soon as this happens but until then, I'll hang on.

Oh good, we have another monkey on the MBP waitlist!

I suppose you could count me as "Arctic Monkey"?
:p

And on that 9to5mac article, it all seems highly likely although I can't tell whether that keyboard's from the MBA or not; they've not exactly said what it's of.
